awesome shots, especially the raspberries!

We've been busy since we got back from Canada. My wife is a lot better than I am at getting things on camera, here are some recent snaps from her iphone :

We went to Elote restaurant, in addition to amazing puffy tacos they had luchadores LIVE and the best Horchata I've had in a while.

Took the kids to the lake.

Our good friend has a stand at a local farmers market. His asparagus wasn't quite ready :(, but the flowers made up for it.

Thursday we drove to Bartlesville for one of the better live shows I've been to in a while:

5847555622_1c6aa60050_z.jpg

I had only heard their recordings, hadn't really seen any video of them live. They have so much energy, and the organizers cleared out the orchestra pit and made a dance floor. Fortunately for you there was a strict no photo policy during the show or else I might break the internet with horrible pictures of my caucasian protestant dance moves.

Another cool part of the trip was seeing the Price Tower. We didn't make it there in time to go inside, but It was awesome to see some Frank Lloyd Wright in person:

Damn... thanks for the crazy rep and comments, all! But hey now, this shit is FAR from over.

I realized there was one photo I forgot to post, intended to go after the "snagged some water from the wash cycle":

IMG_3086.jpg

I'm loving these gentlemanly moves by ranon and now aho. Excited for the curtain-lift on who's replacing aho... just make sure you don't become a stranger around here dude!

As one of the teams was checking in, I saw this one guy and thought, "Hey, is that guy wearing a kitenge bandanna??" Apparently, he thought, "Hey, that guy's jeans look pretty good!" Then there was a pause....

Hell yes for some kitenge love! Good to see it going to good use, Cash!

I've got some great photos from the past few days (guest features, slap bag, boda boda polo, rugby...) but no time to upload now, because Homegirl and I are trying to get out of the house to head off for 5 days of camping in and around Fort Portal (Crater Lakes, Kibale National Forest, chimpanzees...) and then visiting a friend's village. Expect a fatty update in a month or so!

We've been away for the past couple weekends, and missed the market trawl.

Surprise surprise, when we arrive in this little offshoot of Brick Lane, another new building is springing up. Nine or 10 years ago there was no new development here - now they've knocked down a huge railway goodsyard and blocks like this are sprouting everywhere. They're all much the same pattern, little inspiration, hoping to sell entirely on the vibe of the area.

anotherdevelopment.jpg

I prefer these kind of buildings, which would probably have been sewing sweatshops, just 20 or so years go. Like many around here, the street is still cobbled.

workshopsf.jpg

There are huge blocks of Victorian social housing round here - they're beautifully substantiial, and still seem to work with the newest influx of people. Five years ago you'd always smell curry and hear the sound of bhangra drifting around these blocks, now there's a strong Afghan and Polish contingents moving in… while today we also have lots of arty types wandering around for teh St Martins Art show…

peabodyg.jpg

This area was where Banksy established himself - even five years ago there was a lot of his work surviving. Today I noticed thHs new pretender to his throne, who works on a small scale…

minigraffiti.jpg

It was in Spitalfieds around eight months ago I saw my first pair of Alfred Sargent veldtschoen being worn. finally, I have my own pair, snagged on eBay with my Paypal balance.

Today we walked a different route, by the new location of one of my favourite shops, Labour & Wait. I guess they're a bit like Manufactum, selling a lot of 1940s-style hardware (at admittedly exalted prices). I've always thought of this kind of Edwardian tilework as being very Dutch-influenced…

labourandwait.jpg

And the interior. Today I spotted some verry cool Duck aprons… £39.

laborwaitinside.jpg

By now we'd wandered around our fave places - the flower market, the sweet shops, the main market, all of which have been shown on this thread I think. We cut sideways towards Present for a coffee, past Wilkes Street, which has some of my favourite early Georgian houses. When rnr came over we spied into a few windows here. THis used ot be centre of London's silkweaving industry - most of the houses had extra stories added, with large windows to let in the light, where the looms were placed.

princelet.jpg

One of the best bits about this area is the contrast of elegantly refurbished, semi-derelict, and brand-new buildings, all within yards of each other.

factories.jpg

Present have their sale on. I love the Cabourn Cameraman jackets.. can't afford them even at sale prices sadly.

presentc.jpg

I've mentioned before how it was cool to see my mate Graham Marsh's new Ivy League book in here. Now, it is cool to see our friend Mike Harris's work on display.

mikenj.jpg

Finally, home…. we came a different route, due to engineering works, ending up in New Cross, the first place I lived in London (right next to a gang of cut'n'shut car thieves, who finally got banged up five years ago. They'd been an open secret for at least two decades, guess the cops they'd paid off finally retired). This rail line was closed for many years - now, reopened, you can appreciate the beautiful but functional l engineering of all these early Victorian stations.

surreyquays.jpg

Now we're back home, and a coffee before we do some cleaning and clearing - but given it's father's day here, I reckon the pub might be beckoning, early…

ADH, great way to kick off! Great pics, and your girl sounds like a keeper!

Paul, nice to see you back at it! Glad I'm not subject to the temptations you run into everyday!

Happy Father's day to all you dads! Our morning started with the baby rabbit joining his parents in our back yard!

It's been the usual busy, busy here. I am involved in an annual charity fund-raising fair. This year, in addition to the CFO job, I also took on the role of photographer for the event. Here are a few snaps…

The silent auction room - all kinds of goodies. I donated the photo canvas just visible in the top left corner of the pic…

The bake sale was mouth-watering

d92330fe.jpg

All kinds of bouncy castles

c527b04b.jpg

And of course there had to be a "dunk" station - in this case, via water balloons!

2443d7d3.jpg

Also managed to get out to the "Profusion" show, put on by Vistek, one of Canada's large photography retailers. Their shows are usually geared more towards the pro market, and they always have fantastic instructional sessions, as well as the latest & greatest toys

@Paul, I didn't know about the little histories of the many buildings I saw when I took a walk from Bricklane to Present at Shoreditch. Very insightful and I love history and heritage.

@riff, was crazy about Gibson during the Guns and Roses era because of Slash!

Btw, is that how your nickname came about, guitar riff... :)

Had a good father's day with the family today. We typically head up to Santa Barbara for the day and eat brunch at a little Mexican joint called Carlito's.

001mediums.jpg

I usually get the huevos rancheros. They come with handmade corn tortillas. Mmmm..

006medium.jpg

Then we usually head down to this little park. I think I have posted it before. Tons of ducks, turtles, and coy fish to feed. The old lady snapped a couple of pics of the son and I.

009medium.jpg

012mediumw.jpg

The little brats next to my son asked if they could feed the ducks and turtles too. Of course they needed bread so I gave them a couple pieces of bread. I didn't know I gave them permission to snag all of our bread. I thought the dad would say something to them when the daughter grabbed the last piece of bread and said "Oops that's all the bread." At that point my son had sparingly used his 1 piece of bread while the two of them went through the entire loaf. Anyways, my son could care less. I just thought it was rude of the parent not to stop the kids from snakin all the goods.

HEY!! It was cash! Despite living just 100 miles from each other, we hadn't met up yet. My life has been so busy lately that I hadn't been down to SLC much at all in the past 5 months. It was great to finally meet, albeit briefly... so random. I did give him a little bit of a hard time for not running in the Roys ;)

940f81c9.jpg

Running into a comrade in ROYs was a great way to start the race. Zis has the inside track on those chambray skivees.

You'll forgive the expression on my face -- this was a combination of a hangover, too much caffeine and nerves about the race. I need to gather photos from people in a handful of locations, but a race post is coming.

i hate little brats but it is the fault of the parent for not teaching those young uns a little manners.

on a sidenote, your son is a splitting image of you. doppelganger of the year award. its almost like you really went back in time with that bogus time machine of yours.

Picture1-8.png

Actually, I feel bad that I called them brats. they were quite nice, I just thought they were a little selfish and the father shoulda recognized they were hogging the bread.

Thanks for the compliment about my son. He is way better looking than I was at that age.

I just thought it was rude of the parent not to stop the kids from snakin all the goods.

Because the parents, like their children, don't know any better. They're ignorant little bastards. Anyone with any manners wouldn't have accepted more than a couple slices of the bread.

Very nice family outing. Thank you for sharing.

Roy's are looking good, but what I really like is that jacket. Sharp.
