but just wanted to know if anyone knew of any art themed hotels, individually artist designed/decorated rooms, that sort of thing. anywhere in the world.

Not a hotel, but this is a pseudo art-themed hostel. It's a revamped prison converted by various artists. I stayed here a night about a month ago. Fun place, except no one spoke english.

Chicago House of Blues hotel. Stayed there a week while working for Ernst and Young. Voodoo art all over the place. Really colorful and vibrant. I liked it but it was not the traditional thing at all and I guess fairly "touristy" but I still liked the atmosphere.
