^what's going on in the 2nd pic?...and what about that swastika?...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika#Buddhism

The picture was taken at the large temple in the Asakusa district in Tokyo. From what I remember they burn those incense sticks to clean the soul or ward off bad spirits before praying. You'll see ash drums like this in front of the temples and people fanning themselves with the smoke.

thx for info wonger...

it's somehow strange and weird at the same time to see a sign like this if you're german and know about the history and things.

so everytime i see such signs i don't really know how to react. if their meaning is a good (buddhism) or a bad thing with german background...

always great to see the good thing in it...

I spend a lot of my time learning how to see. Most often, we look at things. Seeing is different. This is specially difficult in your own surroundings as you are used to everything so you're on auto pilot.

As a mental exercise, I continuously try to challenge myself to see things in a new way.

@ Vetuv

Yup, long exposures between 30 seconds and 5 minutes (other than the 3rd which was a lensbaby and a little digital manipulation) .

@Egbert, Joe

Definitely a fan of Kenna. One of my professors claimed to know him personally, but never introduced me... I don't believe him, haha.
