ETERNAL 811 Contest 10/10/10 - 12/12/12

Well it always sucks to follow Morse, but this update is long overdue.

Here is 6 months, sorry about the crappy photos, I'm gonna try to take some better ones when I can. This is probably about 190 days, I'm thinking I'm gonna wash in a month and maybe get another hem and get rid of the cuff, or make it a lot smaller.

edit: the second set of photos doesn't give a great sense of the contrast, but it's just a way better view of the jeans.

5th page, guys?! weak!

back in the fall, i posted a comparison of my LVC 47s and 710s at 200 days. after those photos were taken, both pairs went into the wash and the eternal contest started. i decided to treat my 811s the same way to see how they compared. the 47s and 710s got a few wears here and there over the past 8 months, and now all 3 pairs have lined up: initial soaks, second soak at 133 days wear, washed at 200 days, worn 10 days after. 210 days / 7 months on each pair.

these photos, like the last set, were taken midday under overcast sky (no adjustments):

aside from possible differences in activity levels (may have hiked / biked / skated a little more in some pairs than others), the only difference is the 811s were hand washed with bronners and the other two were washed together in a machine with detergent.

you can clearly see in the photos that the LVC are lightest and 811s darkest, which seems contrary to popular opinions on here. granted, the LVCs were probably lighter when raw than the 811s, but it's still plain to see they are not particularly "slow faders" as people call them. in the eternal contest thread, a lot of people have been saying that these are fading fast... i think that is deceptive because they have faded quite a bit and signs of fading started early, but the denim is dyed so deeply that they are still far darker than the other pairs.

hope you all enjoyed this little study. i'll see if i can get some fit pics...

@TallyHo nice progress you got there. and nice comparison you've made with your other jeans.

Mine keeping them idigo as well.. but compared to other brands mine lost a reasonable amount of starch.. they feel quite soft already

  • 2 weeks later...

looking great ah_long! I had to take mine to SENY again to get them darned up professionally. It was easy for me to patch up small holes to prevent tearing but after I skated one day in them, everything was torn open. We are definitely going to have some heavily worn jeans by the end of the contest.

Quick update. Pics taken in bright FL sunlight.

These have been machine washed and dried a couple of times, along with a few hot soaks. They're a little too big, so I'm fighting to keep them small enough with washing and drying. So far no problems. Got them hemmed at BnG, but could likely stand to get them hemmed again (didn't take enough off the first time).

reviving this thread with a cross post! heres what they did today.

so today was one of the normal working weekends for me. havent been doing any WAYJDT posts, so heres one. in case anybody didnt know, i work at a clothing store on weekends for extra doe to fund my obsessions. store underwent a small revamp a couple of months back as we added more shelving for freitag bags.

R1003453.jpg

although the store's products dont really vibe with me, i have always liked the interior of the store. i also like how we change our shopping bags frequently. here are the ones this season, polka dotted bags. they look pretty damn cute on girls.

R1003456.jpg

got some generic surplus shoes as well as zkin camera bags. zkin is a brand from hong kong and the bags are real nice, placed on consignment in our store now. made of leather and suede they are a great product with nice aesthetics and functionality.

R1003457.jpg

we've got all sorts of weird decor items as well as my boss picks up a lot of old stuff from the salvation army and restores them. rocking horse has been around for mabbe 15 years? but he repainted it and touched it up a little. never fails to get the kids.

R1003454.jpg

sometimes we've got some interesting products as well. here you see, the first pair of north korean produced jeans. great idea even though construction isnt fantastic. no fancy denim or chainstitching or whatsoever and fit is somewhat of an anti-fit. totally expecting something like that from them. ha!

R1003455.jpg

and heres the story. pretty interesting concept and great persistence from the swedish guy that started it all.

R1003460.jpg

headed to the mall for dinner after work. havent been out for a while now due to work, so couldnt be more stoked for dinner!

R1003459.jpg

if theres something they say about singaporeans, we love our queues. we almost spontaneously join queues because we assume that anywhere that has queues must have some great stuff.

R1003458.jpg

my friend and i picked out a somewhat new chinese restaurant for dinner. famed for one of their treats which i will show later on.

here we are on the inside. nice seating, pretty crowded, could be worse but cant complain for the price.

R1003467.jpg

heres what we ordered. xiaolongbaos or steamed dumplings. the reason why they are so good is because of the soup they have when you bite into it. the soup is contained within the meat filling and skin.

R1003468.jpg

here are the flavours in each colour. some are pretty good while others are pretty...wild. mmm. the regular ones are good and the black truffle ones are as well.

R1003469.jpg

accompanied with some noodles

R1003470.jpg

and some pan fried chicken to go along with it

R1003463.jpg

said friend was actually in miami doing at exchange then did a trip round the US and then to Tokyo where he picked up some goros. im not a fan of that but i respect his likes.

R1003461.jpg

he was kind enough when he made the trip to levis tailor shop in SF to pick this up for me as a gift. great book with some nice reproduced graphics/information from the past.

R1003462.jpg

i remember seeing this on the LVC thread. so thats where it was from!

caught green lantern after that. not fantastic but could have been worse. well at least blake lively was pretty damn hot in the movie. couldnt stop staring.

R1003471copy.jpg

a quick fit pic to end the night. sorry for the graininess/bnw shot. it was too dark by the time the movie ended. good night, good times.

If possible don't alter them. They are just on such a great way of nice fading!!! I hope you can alive with those cuffs. I really like them the way they are!!!

#66 checking in. gave them a wash this weekend since they were beginnning to smell quite funky. prior to that was only 1 warm soak. i gave these a cold wash and got some residual shrinkage and leg twist around these. they turned out beautiful after the wash. i will be washing these after every month of wear or so to see how they will look like at the end. sorry for the mega ass post.
