a fucking tour d force if there ever was one. ill think ill have to re read this book in my late 40's to make better sense of it. i didnt really fall into the rythm until later in the book so it made for a difficult read at times. especially when its just going on and on with these cosmic hallucinations. it reminded me of death of artemio cruz at times.

just started the body in the mind. it is most interesting to do declare.

Really loved the conceptual approach this book took. Pretty good read and its really not that difficult (navigating the text) once you figure out the general approach to this writing style. Have you seen his latest book, Only Revolutions? Not sure if I'm even going to attempt that one. Just looks too gimmicky for me.

Agree about the book. It was one of my favorite reads of the summer. I looked at Only Revolutions and didn't know what to think of it at first, so I told my friend to buy it. He just started it and he's gonna tell me how it is before I devote any time to it.

i am nearly finished Bulgakov's Master and Margarita (fantastic in the true sense of the word) and am a third of the way into Pushkin's novel in verse Eugene Onegin. Onegin is surprisingly entertaining, about a foppish dilletante that gets bored of high society, and... well... that's as far as i have gotten.

Just finished this up and it was far different from the movie... but still trying to decide if I liked it more this way.

I started up 1984 right afterwards because for whatever reason, our schools never pushed it on us. So far, so good, but I left it at work tonight so I can't continue tomorrow, despite having a lot empty time I could put to good use.

Alan Lapidus’s life has been a Zelig-like romp through most of the cultural and political highlights of the recent past. He has popped up as architect for or observer of many of our era’s most iconic figures, including Donald Trump, various Mafia big shots, mayors, Aristotle and Jackie Onassis, Bob Guccione, pit bosses, real estate legends, and spies.

Everything by Design takes us behind the scenes in Las Vegas, Disney World, Havana, Atlantic City, Moscow, the Amazon rainforest, and New York. Along the way we learn why Mickey Mouse never seems to use the restroom, why the baccarat tables in casinos are always far away from the dice tables, why the CIA wanted him to redesign Havana’s main synagogue, and why the tunnels under the Hotel Moskva can’t be touched.

Everything by Design is a keenly observed social and cultural history of modern America by one of its key shapers.

right now i am reading...

virtual light - william gibson,

simulacra & simulation - jean baudrillard,

positions - jacques derrida,

the history of sexuality pt. 1 - michel foucault,

complete works - franz kafka

society of the spectacle - guy debord

all are very good, but baudrillard is definitely challenging.
