    @djungelorm What size are you? They still show up pretty regularly on Yahoo, esp. if you’re a 32 or below

    @julian-wolf I would need a 38. I have never seen that size available, although I have not looked on yahoo jp in a long time. I sometimes look for other kakishibu options from other brands, but they tend to be a lot more $$$ than I want to spend.

  2. @julian-wolf I always wanted a pair of the persimmon Sugar Cane's; I should gotten them when they were available. Sugar Cane was my entry point into the raw denim world many many years ago (excluding the inexpensive Lee jeans I wore as a kid). I was thinking about getting a pair of Hawaii's for old times sake rather than returning to my usual heavyweight inclinations now that the TCB contest is done.

  3. I was in New Mexico USA for a few days recently. Here is perhaps an obligatory denim picture of me on a hill over Santa Fe wearing the TCB S40 contest jeans. I dunno why I am standing funny.

    Here is a view of Santa Fe from lower down on that hike.

    I went to the Meow Wolf installation (which I believe was the first one, there are a few others). It is basically a very large interactive art exhibit that tells a story if you care to find it. It was pretty cool. You aren't supposed to take pictures except for "personal use" so I will only post one. They probably don't want people spoiling everything.

    A old kiva structure at Bandelier National Monument. I dunno who those four people are.

    Here is a picture of the landscape at Valles Caldera National Preserve. On the way to Caldera and Bandelier we got routed through Los Alamos National Lab and we had this funny interaction with a guard at the gate:

    US: Um, we just want to go to Caldera. Is this the right way or do we have to find a way around?

    GUARD: You can get there through here. I need to see your ID.

    GUARD: OK, stay on this road. Keep going straight. Do not stop. Do not turn left at any point. Do not take any pictures. Do you have any drones? Don't used those it you do.

    US: Um, OK.

    I wonder if they stuck a tracking device on us.

    Some pictures of petroglyphs. The macaw was at Petroglyph National Monument outside Albuquerque. I am not sure it is really a macaw as what was one doing all the way up here in ore ancient times? The other creature was outside of Santa Fe somewhere on state land I think.

  4. Contest is almost over. I finally got around to patching my back pockets; I was going to wait until after the contest, but that seemed imprudent. I did use the hemming remnants, so one can see what the original color looked like. I dunno what happened in the lower left corner of the patch; hey rawdenim is supposed to reflect one's life and personal journey, and it is clear sewing skills aren't part of mine. I still to really fix the patch on the cuffs (and patch more sections on both legs), I just stitched the holes back up for expediency's sake. I also reinforced more popped seams, but that is not all that visible as I replaced the cotton thread with black poly

  5. I have not been on sufu for a while, and I should post some updates on the TCB contest thread, but here are some photos I took on a hike up the Pacific coast which was mostly in Olympic National Park a couple months ago. I actually did most of the hike in my TCBs which was funny because hiking in denim is against all Official Hiking Rules. It was actually kinda funny because I ran into a guide group of completely newbie hikers (who had camped nearby) and I apologized to the group leader for setting a horrendous example to them. He said, 'Yeah, if one of them showed up in jeans at the trailhead I would not had let them on the hike." Let it be known though, I did have appropriate gear and clothing. After this trip we got hit with 120F (49C) temps outside my house (officially 108F in the city I think) which sucked.

    I was shocked this tree was still standing. But maybe not for long.

    TCB S40s in front of a camp. I did wash them after the trip and repaired the back of the cuffs. It was actually hard to find campsites on/near the beach because it was a super full moon and high tide brought the water all the way up to the trees and most of the terrain was very cliff-y beyond the beach

    Evening panoramic (a bit obviously stitched together) of the cove we spent most of the time in. During most of the time, the tides blocked off both ends so no one could pass so it was very cut off. During low tide one could walk out through the tidepools to those large rocks way in the distance.

    Big whale bone. There were a lot of bones and huge pieces of vertebrae and shells in mound that had just been recently exposed so it was clearly a processing area in the distant past.

    Tide is going out in this tidepool.

    Hole-in-the-wall. The tides totally block this during high tide, but in this case one can escape overland up the steep cliff on the left.

  6. @lee porter I believe you ordered the 42 2000t already, but I have a pair of the 2000t No.1 denim in size 42 and the measurements are as follows. I believe they were one washed when purchased. I have probably worn them less than 20 times. My spouse got them for me on a trip to Japan a couple of years ago. I wish she had not gotten the tapered fit, but it was a great gift regardless. They are really only worn when I need a pair of unfaded jeans since I have too many, well, assuming the loud red embroidered gulls are still cool wherever I am going.

    original (cm) / cold soak / current

    waist 96.5 / 94 / 97

    front rise 28 / 28 / 28.5

    thigh 35.5 / 34 / 34

    inseam 80 / 80 / 80

    leg 19.5 / 19 / 19

    Pictures, since I busted them out to measure. Model is "Lot.2000T (No.1 / MOMOME Embroidery / Red) Slim Tapered Fit"

  7. The 31/33 oz colored weft Old Blue's are out. Dunno how many are available as I originally thought they were pre-order only. (Un)Fortunately for me, I just got the TCB S40's for their contest so I am far less inclined to get these. Well, I really want to get them (colored weft super heavyweights!), but good judgement is winning out. I am glad they aren't green or olive weft as I would have already ordered them.

    Pictures from their site. They definitely have gone full western cosplay over the past few years.

    ok so its high rise, hair, washing, cats and dogs

    i remember years ago it was about low rise, tight, never wash, fades honeycombs stacks whiskers etc

    so we´re getting auld

    some of the photos are really good

    @Duodequinquagesimus I am pretty old now according to the kiddies and my spouse, but I am still about the lower rise, never wash (ok I will wash sometimes) fades honeycombs stacks whiskers... and cats of course. I am all about loose fits, though, and have never liked tight jeans.

  9. I was going to put these in the TCB contest thread, but they are more appropriate here. My first wearing of the contest jeans! The progeny took more pictures of the jeans from various angles but they didn't really come out great.

    Also, I saw a pair (pairs?) with a small “stay at home with your cats” patch. I don’t have this on mine.

    @Dan_F I specifically asked for the patch on my pair; it's not a standard thing. I saw on Instagram at least one other person got the patch but they got theirs on the inside on a pocket bag.

    Thanks for this! Just took this opportunity to email Ryo and confirm that my No Shampoo Club t-shirt would be included with the jeans: one of the unforseen benefits of ordering pre-washed

    Sorry to hear about your missing shirt—hopefully they'll sort you out quickly once all the current hubbub's died down some

    On the bright side, it seems like your jeans might be the closest, so far, to the posted size charts, a glimmer of hope for those of us still awaiting our tracking info

    @julian-wolf I really wanted to get the No Shampoo Club t-shirt but my spouse barely tolerates the $$$ I spend on fancy pants and I did not want to get into a discussion about $60 T-Shirts. Though in retrospect I maybe could have gotten them both and rolled the t-shirt price into that of the jeans.

  12. So to help (or to increase?) people's anxieties here are some measurements of my rigid 38 pair after a 30 minute hot soak with agitation in my bathtub (hang dry). Hot in this case is whatever temp came out of the hot tap. I am comparing the numbers to the OW chart.

    Size 38 OW Chart => Rigid after hot soak

    WAIST 96 => 91 (95)

    THIGH 34.8 => 33 (33.5)

    RISE 35 => 35

    HEM 23.4 => 23

    The two numbers in parenthesis are the measurements after I tried them one for only a few minutes. As one can see, the thigh number is a little past the low end of what I would consider acceptable variance (0.5 in / 1.25 cm) and the waist number is a whopping 2 in / 5 cm off. I tried them on and did not have any trouble buttoning and only had them on for a couple minutes... walked about, did a few squats, etc. I measured again afterwards and there was a lot of stretch in the waist and even a bit in the thigh. So the 38s seem to be reasonable. Obviously the smaller sizes may be different.

    I am glad they lost another inch on the rise. Still very high. My inseam shrunk to exactly what I wanted which was nice. Also no/minimal leg twist which is even nicer.

    Still thinking about doing another hot soak, but I think I probably won't and will just cold wash later.

    two hot washes and air dry. waist shrunk to over an inch under tag size. length actually shrunk 2.5 inches. put on for 10 minutes and the waist stretched to tag size already. this denim is cool. it’s very bumpy feeling. also got a little tiny bit of rust on one of the buttons!

    @roomtemplacroix did you get a lot of shrink after the second wash? I usually only soak/wash once, but was considering doing another (mine are currently drying now) since I think I read somewhere even the OW versions have some shrink left in them.
