  1. Favorite elephant mug has been relegated to semi-permanent vase duty (moved outside, temporarily, for good lighting)
  2. @Maynard Friedman I don’t know anything about the specific history, but I figure Nimes must have been making indigo-on-white twills (cotton or linen, 2x1 or 3x1) since at least the early- or mid-1800s for the fabric to have picked up the “de Nimes” moniker by the time it was being produced in the US in the 1880s…
  3. Regardless of construction style, most stitched boots with wedge soles stitch to a midsole and then glue the wedge on to the midsole
  4. Yeah, I’ll always default to supporting a local brick & mortar if doing so offers the opportunity to shop around and try stuff on, but paying the extra surcharge seems silly for a preorder
  5. Yep, no problem (but their threads won’t match the color)
  6. I had the same concern when I started wearing the early DSB, but I’m really glad I stuck it out. They ended up with a lot more depth & a lot more subtlety than I usually expect from quick fading
  7. ^ Looking forward to seeing how those turn out My S2004 are the prettiest and best-fading jeans I’ve ever worn, and they’d be an easy choice for all-time favorites if it weren’t for the low rise and small front pockets

  9. Went ahead and preordered a pair—always wanted to try Ooe and always told myself that I’d wait ‘til they brought the 03 cut back, so…
  10. Really big fan of the old THC shirts. The fabric is comfortable and holds its shape very well, and overall they’re pretty bullet proof. That said, they don’t breathe great, and it would be nicer aesthetically if they used cotton stitching. Not sure how frequently they make these. I’ve felt a couple of their newer models and haven’t been blown away by the knits, but I’d bet they’re still built like tanks. Of the (admittedly limited) other options I’ve tried, I think the Sure Mfg. fabric is the most similar I’ve felt to the THC, if that’s at all useful as a point of reference.
  11. I always button my jeans before washing them, these days, to avoid the buttons catching on other clothes and ripping them. Never had any issues with wearing through the rest of the fly.
  12. @mondo Hah, I do remember that—on the UC campus, just near the clock tower? Sorry if I seemed a bit standoffish; I was caught a little off-guard Jeans are looking great
  13. Caught during a blink // Got some Samurai shorts for cheap on Yahoo that I've been wearing a lot
  14. Got a pair of the MOTO #2121 in light brown Latigo Wore them every day for around the first two weeks straight, but figured I should condition them before going much further Photos are after a quick wiping + brushing off, but before any conditioning
  15. Still, same applies here as with your Rakuten recommendation—many of the big resellers on Yahoo seem to correspond to brick & mortar storefronts
  16. To the earlier discussion of tees: I like the Merz 2-thread fabric a lot, and I like how their shirts fit me better than most of the Japanese alternatives. I've never had any major QC issues with them, either. That said, the way they construct their shirts—not to mention the polyester thread that they use, which really doesn't age gracefully at all—is pretty significantly unappealing, and I don't think they'll ever be my go-to. My overall favorite tees are probably Tezomeya, but the sizing can be iffy. I have two pairs that fit me very well and two pairs that fit me less well. They make up for it (and then some) with the fabric and the dyes that they use. Otherwise, for standard white tees / graphic tees, Sure Mfg. and The Flat Head THC series (not sure if these are still available?) would probably be my go-tos. Gustin, of all brands, used to make some tees that I think they called the "pigment-dyed organic tee shirts" or something along those lines. They're made from a really soft, light fabric that holds up great, and they're put together very well with 100% cotton stitching that takes the garment dye well and ages gracefully. They were also something like $10 each, when bought in packs. If I'd known how well they were gonna last me, I'd happily have paid five times that for them, as they don't seem to be available anymore, and they really stand up favorably to almost all of the much fancier, more expensive options that I've tried (besides maybe Tezo—but those fill a very different niche). I still have 4 or 5 in my regular rotation, in a variety of colors, and I think 3 stashed away somewhere for when these get too thin. Worn 2 all the way to rags.
  17. Mohair is def. my favorite sock material. I'd never heard of Corrymoor, and was very excited to read about them—but it's disappointing that they're only 68% wool. I expect that most socks have some synthetic component, as it seems to help a lot with longevity, but above around 15% it seems to cut into the feel, and the utility, a little too much for my liking. I still may try a pair or two, but I'm skeptical. For now—and for the past ~5+ years—Tender Co. has been my every-day top choice. At this point I don't really wear anything else—they're the most consistent staple of my wardrobe. The mohair are my favorites, but the standard wool are also really great for when it's not too hot or too cold.
  18. Yeah, all the stitching on the Neil shirts is cotton (besides maybe silk for the buttons? Can’t remember, but don’t think so)

  20. I've spent the past 6 years—the entirety of the time that I've been active on this forum—working towards a degree in physics (experimental AMO, for anyone up on the lingo). That stage of life is finally coming to a close. My dissertation isn't quite finished, but the commencement ceremony for the past year's worth of graduates took place last week, and I was close enough to finishing that I chose to participate. Since Duke's already let the cat out of the bag, I figure it's only right that I follow up with photos. feat. cheap rental gown & hat, TFH shirt, Tightly Stitched belt, Roy jeans, MOTO shoes also feat. my good buddy Nick, w/ Indigofera shirt, Warehouse shirt, Roy jeans, Nick's boots
  21. Black '50s been putting in more work this year Balance is off in the photos (should have found a darker background)—they're generally blacker & less contrasted in person—but starting to look really great
  22. Been revisiting the idea of trying some if their jeans, recently A lot of the measurements I’m seeing have these coming in pretty large—I’m tempted to go all the way down to a W32 from my usual W33–W34. Does this seem reasonable / in line with other folks’ experiences?
  23. ^ Started typing pretty much the same thing as the above but got distracted. The TCB ‘50s are probably most similar to the Okinawa The best comparison would probably have the TCBs a size bigger than the Cane’s (I generally wear a tag size 34 in both, but the TCBs are much tighter in the waist)
  24. ^ They cost something like $140 + shipping brand new; I think you might have some trouble charging $20 extra for the wear you’ve put into them…
