  1. @Maynard Friedman Oh thanks. Had no idea it was gone by the '60s.

@Paul T Do you know the reason why they got rid of it? I've never really looked at pattern making for selvedge denim jeans, but why did it even exist in the first place? I'm assuming they wanted to make use of and/or not waste material... Did they use looms of different width that didn't allow for a selvedge coin pocket to be utilised or something? Sorry for all the questions, but never thought about this till now!

  2. @TheJPdude Ahh, I see. I'm only 5'7" and I've got long legs, so I usually like my inseams to be about 30.5". Most of the time I cuff my jeans to 28" or so, but having it at 30.5" gives me the option to have my jeans sit on top of my shoes with a break in the fabric.

@Paul T Great info as always! I've also found that the '76s don't have a selvedge coin pocket. When and why did they get rid of that?

Oddly, all of my recent LVC have shrunk 3" on nose (all from 2015 production) They've been 33/34 waist too.

I'm not going to cry about chasing half an inch, though. I've been more of a 'wear as raw as possible without letting water touch them' kind of guy, and I like the results.

Thought I might chime in, but my '76s shrank 2.5" after the first hot machine wash. Given that you like to wear them "as raw as possible", doing that method to shrink them would probably be out of the question. I've found that subsequent cold machine washes have still made my '47s shrink a tad more than 3" in the inseam, so maybe there's hope that your '76s hasn't arrived at it's final length. I, on the other hand, would prefer if my '76s don't shrink anymore since they started at around 33".

  4. @setterman Very nice ;)

I too found that the right leg didn't twist at all. The denim is quite hairy, which is a characteristic I like to have in my jeans. It gave my '76s an initial softness that reminded me a little of my Roy RS05 jeans (but obviously not like dat Supima softness).

You got some crazy front and back rise shrinkage! Is that typical for size 36 jeans?

  5. @cool_hand I currently own the 1915, 1933 and 1947 along with the new 1976. It does seem that they mention shrinkage of approximately 10%, which is at the bottom of the longest care label. I'm about to go out of my house, but I can take some pics later if you'd like. I'd have to look at my prewash measurements, but I think the '76 RHT shrank the most in the waist. Not a bad thing though because I usually like my jeans to start at 30" so that they can stretch to 31".

Hey, any Melbourne denim heads going to Weaving Shibusa at ACMI?

The last screening on 11th March is followed by a panel discussion in the evening - guys like Marty from Godspeed and Ant from Anthill Workshop will be speaking.

    I'm going!

how do you know the LHT denim of the mirror jeans shrinks only 5%?

Close to the bottom of the first care label image that you posted says "Shrinkage in wash approximately 5%." Maybe they did actully use different patterns for the LHT jeans haha!

Also, I looked up the RHT 1976 jeans and came across this site http://www.joenet.co.jp/smp/item/levi-26408-0000.html

I'm not sure how they measured theirs and how accurate their measurements are... I'm guessing from the size 31/34 that they did it BiG style. A size 34 waist would then be around 36".

Side note, but how do you post hyperlinks on these forums?

  8. @cool_hand You're right that there should be shrinkage. I'm just waiting for someone to take the plunge (no pun intended) and soak the mirror jeans so we can see the results. Hopefully Paul T or someone else will be able to check out the RHT 34/34 and see what the waist is on that.

Thanks for the pictures as well. Cool how they have a tag in the pants with a backwards number 298. I'm guessing you received the 298 pair out of the 501 that were made. Do you plan on getting the size available size up?

Mirror Jeans just arrived. Yep, they're going to be to small if you go for your usual waist size. I ordered a 34/34.

    Waist 34 1/4"
    FR 12 3/4"
    RR 15"
    Thigh 12.5"
    Knee 9 3/4"
    Inside leg: 34.5" / 34 1/4"
    Opening 8.5"

There were no measurements for these online so I took a chance they would be sized for shrinkage. The last pair of LVC I purchased were the 1915 (34/34) which came up a 36 waist. Based on propellerbeanie's post-soak measurements these will lose 2" in the waist. How different is the RHT to the LHT?

I thought the denim would be a little more interesting – it looks just like the picture on Caliroots, quite light - would expect it to darken once soaked. My pair are missing the swing tag and the card size label that sits next to the leather back patch, maybe they didn't make these labels/tags for the Mirror version? Made in the USA. The mirrored fly doesn't work for me - maybe if you're left handed it will work? It just might be the Achilles heel in the design. Anway to small so will need to go back and I think I will look to size-up in a standard RHT pair.

Damn, LVC's inconsistent sizing strikes again! One would think that your 34/34 LHT would have the same measurements as the 34/34 RHT. Just from your measurements, it doesn't actually seem proportionally the same as mine, but then again, there is typically a margin of error... Maybe the LHT ones don't shrink that much at all, so your presoak/wash measurements are close to what the RHT post soak/wash measurements will be (if that makes sense)?

Although a bit gimmicky, I still think the mirror jeans are a cool limited edition item. My friend said he wants to buy one to keep in mint condition then maybe 100 years from now, a Japanese man will find them and remake them stitch for stitch LOL

  10. Not sure if this is the right place to enquire, but I'm looking for a hoodie that's rather specific and was wondering whether any of you guys could help point me in the right direction.

I've always liked the look of LVC's 1950s hoodie where there are no drawstrings or zip, the hand warmer pockets are separate, and the sleeve and hem ribbings are a bit longer than usual. Does anyone know of any hoodies that have these details and are also loopwheeled? I was looking for either a light grey or oatmeal coloured one. I've seen some from SDA and The Strike Gold that come pretty close, but they usually have drawstrings and/or a single, connected hand warmer pocket.

    Thanks in advance! =)

Just back to edit my post... Seems like the Duck Digger Lot 453 exists. Looks pretty neat, but I'll keep looking to make sure there's not something else I may like. Would still appreciate if others could chime in with some sweet alternatives!

they are one of the 12.

Do you know how it was decided who would get one of the 12? I'm guessing the repro mirror jeans won't have the same errors in the fabric so what you've got on your hands is really awesome.

That's a short inseam for a supposed tag size 34L!  I may bag a pair as they're £160.00 and even less with a discount code.

Yeah, rather odd that it started so short. I wore my '76s all day today and I haven't had any issues bending, squatting, sitting or going up steps two at a time. I'm not sure about your tastes in fit, but I'm glad I gave these a go and I reckon you should too especially if you have a discount code!

My 32/34 was not short like that. It seems strange to me - perhaps the smaller rise on one size down? Mine were 34.2 inches and shrunk to 32.2.

I don't think it has to do with a shorter rise because that doesn't affect the inseam length. Mine already started an inch shorter at 32.9"... Plus I did a hot wash with regular spin compared to your cold wash on gentle. If it behaves like my other LVC jeans from recent years, then I'm going to guess mine will eventually be a tad below 30" lol I'm only 5'7" so it isn't much of a bother for me.

  14. Hey there,

It's my first time posting here. I recently picked up a pair of the 1976 501s in a size 31/34 and thought you might like to know the measurements/shrinkage. For all my unsanforized denim, I usually do a hot machine wash (around 50°C) with just a regular spin which also includes a cold rinse. In my experience, that usually gets rid of all the initial shrinkage along with some indigo. So yeah, here are the measurements BiG style in both the Metric and Imperial system!

    Presoak/wash LVC 1976 501 31/34

    Waist: 41cm (16.1")

    Front rise: 29.5cm (11.6")

    Back rise: 38.5cm (15.2")

    Thigh: 31cm (12.2")

    Knee: 23.5cm (9.3")

    Hem: 21cm (8.3")

    Inseam: 83.5cm (32.9")

I'm still waiting for them to dry, so I'll come back and edit this post when they do. Hopefully they'll be dry by tonight since it's pretty warm here in Australia.

    fxAxOQl.jpg

Alrighty, so the results are in and man, did they do some shrinking!

    Post soak/wash LVC 1976 501 31/34

    Waist: 38cm (15")

    Front rise: 28cm (11")

    Back rise: 37.5cm (14.8")

    Thigh: 29.5cm (11.6")

    Knee: 22.5cm (8.9")

    Hem: 20cm (7.9")

    Inseam: 77cm (30.3")

Overall, I'm quite a fan of the fit. I'm currently wearing some 1947s in the same size that were made circa 2015. If people would like measurements of that pair, I'll gladly provide them. Just on this first wear, the 1976s feel a bit roomier in the thighs and knees than the 1947s. The front rise is very similar to one another and the back rise is a tad lower. I dare say that they are more comfortable on first wear than my 1947s because those are starting to feel rather tight (so much so that I feel like I'm cutting my circulation in my left thigh/knee). I haven't done the measurements yet, but my assumption is that the hip area is wider.

Fit pics will be posted some time in the near future if you guys want them. Hope this was helpful to those that plan on purchasing these online!
