  1. As you've mentioned, actual vintage can be hard to find and quite expensive. If you're looking for the next best thing I'd advise you to just spend a while looking through different evo pics between the LVCs on this thread and those on the other threads dedicated to Japanese brands. Personally my own taste in what looks good has changed quite a bit so maybe right now you most prefer the 'authenticity' of LVC (stitching, Cone denim, arcuates, name). Maybe in a few weeks you'll decide you instead prefer the crinkly/marbled/slubby texture Japanese denim can provide.

I used to turn up a nose at LVC but after panic-snagging a pair after the Cone mills news broke I'm glad I tried them out. I think I love both my Japanese denim and my LVC denim more because they have their differences. It would be boring if both sought only to copy vintage denim.

  2. So I've been considering getting myself an actual nice pair of boondockers...

I love the look of the John Lofgren M-43.

They're perfect, only thing is they have the sort of "slim" look to them that make me very certain my wide platypus feet would hang far far over the edge of the shoe. Even when I wear "chunky" shoes, like my Redwing 875, a crease develops along the inside curve of the foot where the leather is pulled outwards to give way. Sorry to drop these unsolicited nightmare fuel pics here but you can see what I mean when I say I spill over the edges of my shoes. In the middle picture you can see the leather has been pulled far out to the side.

I thought maybe Viberg Boondockers (2045 last) or the Real Mccoy N-1 field shoes (if I can even find where to buy a pair) would be chunky enough to fit my wide feet but then I think to myself, for that much $$$ don't you want to pick the boots that look the best? The big deal for me isn't comfort or having to size up. Its having the whole shoe look deflated or as if someone had flattened it like a pancake. Believe me, I could wear virtually any size and the sole would never be wide enough for my feet not to "spill" over.

Don't really know what I'm asking here. I guess its basically, should I get the Viberg Boondocker 2045/RMC N-1 because they look chunky enough for my feet or the John Lofgren ones because they look the best? Alternatively, I guess this directed at anyone with wide feet to share their experiences/opinions with these or any other boot brands.

  3. Only pair of warehouse I've ever owned but the denim has this really nice blue color to it even before breaking them in which is a nice change from all my really dark jeans, like LVC 66. I suspect they'll have the best vintage color of all my pairs though only time will tell. The texture is quite nice though you'll only know up close, fine with me. Love the nep as well. Possibly my favorite fabric that I own.

That would be great if you could! If possible could you also put up post-soak measurements (and pre if you noted it down) please?

They've interested me, but feel they could be a bit too wide for me

Unfortunately I didn't do presoak measurements but as soon as I get my measuring tape back I'll throw up some measurements. I sized up just in case but even though the top block is a bit loose the silhouette is very clean and trim. I suppose in the way lvc 47s are slim tho I've never owned a pair.

Since I got them at hinoya they offered to chain stitch them for 10 bucks. A woman working there suggested I leave three inches for shrinkage but unfortunately they only shrank two. Not a huge deal though.

Lots of loose threads around the jeans too, I wonder if that's part of the WWII detailing.

Here's some sucky pics in the meantime.

  5. Haven't figured out how to incorporate these into my style but at $15 from Goodwill I couldn't say no.

Doc Marten 3989 in really good condition. They were just extremely dusty when I got them-- couldn't even make out the yellow stitching. The 'before' picture is already after brushing off all the dust though.

  7. Picked up a pair of Hinoya x Warehouse 1003xx in Ueno a two weeks ago... I should throw up some pics sometime. Anyone know how much the denim shrinks over time? They're still a bit loose after two soaks.

  8. I wear sz 29 in Resolute 710, they're a little tight in the top block. My FC 1101 in sz 28 have same flat waistband measurement but the hips are so wide that they feel pretty loose. Despite virtually same waistband, the way they sit on my hips the waist is loose on my 1101 compared to not at all on my 710. 1101 has a slightly fuller leg than my 710 and in my experience 1101 has a stronger taper. Maybe its a thing on smaller sizes?

    Fullcount 1101 sz 28
    waist 38.5 cm
    front rise 27 cm
    back rise 38.5 cm
    thigh: 29cm
    knee 21.25cm
    opening 18.5 cm

    Resolute 710 sz 29
    waist 38cm
    front rise 27 cm
    back rise 36.25 cm
    thigh 28.5 cm
    opening 19cm

  9. I've tried hems from Railcar, Blue Owl, Denimio, Detroit Denim (definitely a denim blunder) but now I've settled on Austin Denim Repair (same guy behind Paleo Denim). Personally, I love the width of the hem. When my Railcar hems at 3/8 inch seem a little too puckered/high tension these get that nice fat roping. Right under 1/2 inch. Best part is he's local! Here they are on my pair of Eternal 811 which have since roped up a bit after a soak but I'm too lazy to take more pics right now. The top is the original, bottom is Paleo Denim.

Blue Owl hems can be a little fat, mine is over 1/2 inch but it gets more palatable once some roping begins.

Incidentally, I'm selling the above. Studio D'artisan 103 sz 28. These could make cool jeans for the gf (if she has

    short legs).

might wanna check if the fabric on the rmc m-65 is the same assiduously repro fabric as the one on its MP13006 jungle fatigue shorts. it looks exactly like the original, but at least in my case the fabric starts ripping beyond repair in less than three years.

Does RMC try to repro the fabric of the m65 at the expense of durability? I've always dabbled into collecting mil surplus without knowing anything about the japanese repro side, assuming the japanese versions would be a higher quality version similar details. That said, I recently got an early 80's M65 in pretty good condition but I was pretty unimpressed with the fabric... not sure how to explain it other than it seemed cheap (at least compared to my sateen m51 field jacket). Maybe it'll look/feel better after some wear.

I also noticed we have a thread of militaria... maybe I should drop some pics in there after 5 years of silence B)
