It's an interesting place. The following gave me a good little laugh

The one where the guy was asking if tactical boots were techwear-compatible made me want to pluck my eyes out with chopsticks.

Much as we might joke about lumbersexuals etc., I actually prefer this guy's fit to 90% of these tech ninjas.

    What do you mean?

This may or may not sound ridiculous, but my interest in Acronym has always been about design; I'm interested in my 3A-1 for the same reasons I'd be interested in a chair or a cellphone: affordances, functionality... the aesthetic is great, and Acronym obviously has a whole world of works it's drawing from (some of which I like a lot, like Gibson or Moebius), but if Errolson decided to do a waxed cotton Barbour-style jacket, but with Acronym design, I'd be just as interested.

All of this is to say, I'm interested in technical clothing for its affordances, not its aesthetics alone. "Techwear" has become an aesthetic, and that makes me very uncomfortable; it reminds me of how modernism was co-opted during the mid-20th century.

Unfortunately, I think that "style" is what they make it. It's a tail wagging the dog situation but industry drives fashion because these sites are the nexus for "street" style. With globalization and the regression of normative culture building, seeded advertisement is all we have left. Industry might have some artists but customers are resources and I think that balance sheets matter more than design impact.

I may sound like an old person but we seem to have little classical objectively good design standards anymore. People fetishize industry "disruption" and have deep seated anti-establishment sentiments so they reject traditionalism. It's folly to think or expect that people will ever learn from history and from design development—but I want people to care.

I think this confluence of things leads to our current day situation of influence peddling and the fleeting nature of fad culture. It's not what's said, it's who's saying it. It's not what looks cool, it's who's wearing it.  influencers say it's fashionable . It's fashionable. QED.

At least in a text forum we can nerd out over details and a deeper appreciation over techwear.

I just had a look at r/techwearclothing. Fuck. This sort of thing really repels me...

1kcorp belt email him and tell him you saw it featured in the new acronym video, you'll get easy discount

Not sure if you're kidding, but to my eyes it doesn't look like any of the 1k belts.

I know that acr produced belts early on, but I don't have photos.

Anyone else impressed by the J47R-GT? From the leaks I thought it'd be a J47-GT with a Raccagni zip, but it's much more than that.

Changing the logo tape from vertical to horizontal and reinforcing the seams along the hood, sleeve cuffs and hem give the jacket a totally different vibe from its predecessor. The new paneling along the shoulders make it look more aggressively Acronym than the old J47 as well.

The only thing that's turning me off is the lack of an escape zip.

If the copy under the photos is to be believed, "zip a" actually is an escape zip. Possibly a typo, but have a look on the website.

erlsn get your shit together and stop introducing new ts until you bring back a larger variety and quantity of modulars. honestly, ts is one of the coolest concepts out there but the way it is now just ruins it completely. seems like i'm in the minority but i also just really dislike these way too simple foil modulars.

100% agree on the foil modulars—they seem a bit much to me. But to be fair, most of the OG acronym modulars can be purchased from bagjack in some form. Plus... it's just MOLLE...

  7. Kind of think the criticism of the j1ts is hilarious. This is pure acronym. I get that the webbing is a little odd, but I remember finding the big square front pocket on the j1a a little odd, years ago.

This stuff only sort of makes sense when you look at it—usually physically using/wearing it is when it makes sense. I'm curious about those new arm pockets.

    Goddamn, that's rough.

Would shipping to a PO box and clearing duties work out just the same then?

I have no idea how to ship to border, or if acronym even has that set up on their site.

You'd use an independent service, which has addresses in cities all along the border—say, Buffalo—and you'd use that address when ordering from Acronym. Once the thing is shipped, you'd go through the same process as the one outlined above for avoiding import costs. The thing gets delivered to the Buffalo address, and then you cross the border yourself, pick the thing up, take it home (hoping border guards don't nail you—they're pretty lax when you're heading into Canada though.

    Thoughts on Veilance tees?

Anyone have experience with those and Outlier? Which would you get?

Outlier. Cheaper (even with god-awful shipping fees) and a better handfeel. The ultrafine is the classic one—a nice simple tshirt, super comfortable—but you might consider my personal favourite, the runweight, which is cheaper and is a bit more versatile as a base-layer.

In theory you can you have to cut the cross trap webbing to fit it through the hardware on your 3TS, I would just order the acrnm 3 point version from bagjack.

Which webbing would I have to cut? I'm pretty sure the widths are right, aren't they? And which 3-point is the acronym one? Is it on the site?

what would be the point of replacing it other then color change? [yes it is supposed to work]

Added stability—if I'm riding a bike (or even just running) the bag will clap around. The 3-point would keep it in place, in theory.

  12. I posted this question in the bag thread, but thought I'd ask here as well—does anyone know if I'll have any issues attaching one of Bagjack's 3-point straps to my 3A-1? It looks like it should work in theory, but will it affect interops functionality? Any other issues?

Anyone going to grab the new bagjack sniper bag? I really like the function, less the camo cordura

Haven't had the chance to handle it, but I'll point out that there's a "plain" black version available on the product page—it's just not in any of the product photos. In any case, that's the first bag I've seen since buying my 3a-1 that feels like something I'd want to buy... just not sure about the external branding.

Also—I expect this has been discussed in the past, but will the bagjack 3-point strap work fine with my 3a-1? The straps seem like they should fit, but I wanted to check.

  14. Slow time of year—I'm guessing SS-17 comes around March? What are you all hoping for this drop? Personally, I'm hoping to snag a j1b-s (or some other "-s" shell), maybe a 3a-2...

  15. I seriously doubt you'd need to size up - Mionn is a pretty thin insulator right? The J1A is a pretty boxy/baggy fit so you can layer under there easily at your usual size. The GT is cut to accommodate the J58-WS for instance which is a lot bulkier than the veilance insulators I've had/seen.

The reason I ask is that I tried the j58 in medium and the shoulders were too tight; on the other hand, my mionn is jacket is medium and fits great. So I'm thinking the j1a with an insulator would be too tight in medium, but a large would work.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any direct experience. Thanks for the help though!

  16. Does anyone have the point-to-point shoulder measurements for the J1A-GT in size medium? I'm not sure what size I should order. The J58-WS fit me a little tight through the chest, but was properly sized everywhere else—if the J1A is sized to accommodate a liner I should be good with a medium, right? Or should I size up? I'm 6'1", 170lb.
