Can’t imagine not washing my jeans for 6, 12, or even 15 months of effective wear. Some unsavoury shit always happens to my jeans at around 2-3 months and forces me to wash. Sometimes it’s much earlier than that.

Yep. It goes without saying that not washing your jeans leads to holes and blowouts much faster. Swamp ass in denim is a thing. Makes my skin crawl when I read about dudes that never wash their jeans.

washing might help get additional starch out but you gotta wear them to truly soften them up. I’ve got a pair of 120x and I think I’ve machine washed them once and tub soaked twice. I’ve worn them quite a bit and they are just now getting soft.

Got a laugh about everyone being worked up over some stores comments on instagram in regards to early sales too lol.

Yeah that was pretty funny. On the one hand, BOW is a business and they're free to do what they want. I think the criticism might stem from the fact that we've become a society of instant gratification, so things like Black Friday/Cyber Monday are getting pushed onto consumers earlier. It may sound like a bit of a paradox for companies to be anti-Black Friday but I think the idea is that consumerism has run amok and when you do early sales you're basically only appealing to the crowd that otherwise wouldn't pay full price for anything anyways. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. All of us are guilty of looking for good deals at some point. Personally, i've grown tired of these sales and don't spend as much as I used to. I'm content with the things I have and don't feel the need to buy something on sale for the sake of saving a few bucks. If I want an article of clothing bad enough i'll pay full price for it.

Taylor Stitch's value proposition is not what it used to be. They started advertising MiUSA clothes, but most of their clothes are made in China nowadays. I have nothing against made in China stuff, but it's not the same value prop.

I think they’re trying to do what Patagonia is doing in terms of sustainability. But, I don’t find it sustainable to source manufacturing in third world countries and then have them shipped to the US. Seems to me their carbon footprint would be even bigger since they’re now manufacturing in several foreign countries instead of one. I might consider their MiUSA stuff but nothing else

  5. Just because one is into repro doesn’t mean they can’t be fashionable at the same time. If I buy a deck jacket it’s to keep me warm first and foremost, not to look like an old timey deck hand from WW2. I personally would not wear something if it didn’t look good on me. It’s like guys who wear frumpy ill fitting suits versus guys that prefer a more tailored look.

Why do people/companies continue to insist that wearing your jeans unwashed for a prolonged period is somehow a fashion grail, or secret to success?!  Annoying!

Agree. I’m not into STF denim but I always soak/wash my jeans no matter what. Had a new pair that I didn’t wash for a year and sure enough, blowouts in the crotch, back of knee and cuff. Have another pair of N&F I’ve had for about 4 yrs and those have been washed a ton and still going strong

@Aries both jackets are gorgeous, but that Rider jacket is really something special. Much appreciate the info on TFH treatment of the leather you've described. Can I ask where you got it from - in Japan directly from TFH, or at a retailer outside of Japan?

Rivet and Hide used to have it as well as TFH site. Haven’t seen it elsewhere

  8. I don’t own an N1 but I suspect the BR one is durable. They’re made from whipcord and the BR one is a repro so made to withstand the elements. I’m guessing others like IH and Mister Freedom also make durable N1’s. The Red Tail N1 looks thin and like it wouldn’t do a good job keeping you warm in harsh weather

  9. I don't know what's going on over at Filson HQ but good lord, they have the worst customer service ever. I've seen people leaving comments on their IG page saying as much but now I know. I sent them a product inquiry email Sep 30th and only just received a response yesterday. Yep, almost a full month to answer a simple question. I gave up after a week lol

  10. I'm conflicted with IG. On the one hand, the blatant advertising is what made me cancel my account. On the other hand, I shouldn't fault someone for trying to derive an income from IG if the opportunity presents itself. One of the reasons why it was a turn off for me is that when IG accounts became monetized the content seemed less fluid, for the most part. I still browse IG but their new algorithm, or whatever you call it, prevents me from looking at IG without having an account.
