I’m going to give the PBJ indigo tee sometime soon. I like the faded examples I’ve seen.

They look pretty good, sizing is so weird though, I haven't really seen a single one that would be a good fit for me - it's either way too small in the shoulder or way too big in the chest

  2. Does anyone have the SOC Wool/Cotton Athletic Jacket?

I bought one this week and am loving it, but it's dry clean only. Not super practical if the cotton underside gets sweat smells after a week of wear, anyone tried hand washing?

  3. I got one made to measure that I use for formal occasions, I'll need to get another one for summer though because the fabric I chose was a bit thick for anything but aus cold weather.

That won't cover you for friday but if you can find a maker that you trust I think it's a good option.

  4. re: customer service:

I actually found the Corlection Melbourne customer service rather consistent. Generally if I went over and looked at or picked up an item, either Charlie or Rui would come over and go through the bulletpoints about the item that they list on the website, as if they knew all of them off by heart, also in a rather natural manner. They would also comment or offer opinions on the sizing as well, in a loose sense "go for a 38 if you like a slim fit, or size up if you like a looser fit" and would assist you when you were in the change room.

I didn't buy too many of the jeans though, mostly t-shirts and accessories.

Other Menswear shops in Melbourne do have very good customer service as well though - Up There, Pickings, Godspeed being denim-related ones.

If it doesn't say loopwheeled then it probably isn't, and is instead likely using tubular knit sinker needle machines. That doesn't mean that it isn't a good t-shirt though. I have several t-shirts/henleys in non-loopwheeled wakayama fabric and it is still really good to amazing quality

  6. My experience with them has generally been good. I have heard from others that the service is a lot better if you can speak chinese (out of familiarity rather than language barrier), however I haven't had any issues as a white guy.

The second or third time I bought something there I had to return a pair of chinos that had a defect and they were reluctant to take it back because I wore them out of the store. I had to come back in a second time to convince them. They did however replace them, and they also replaced a pair of Thorogood Boots that had a sewing defect on the interior at the captoe months later no problem and changed it to half a size bigger at my request.

I haven't been in there much in the past year, I think the previous store manager has left and I've only seen Rui/Ray (the tall guy) in there

  7. Picked up a National Athletic Goods 11oz Mock Twist Double V Warm Up sweat in Dark Grey Size M recently from the Superdenim sale: superdenim.com/row/national-athletic-goods-mock-twist-fleece-double-v-warm-up-dark-grey.html

This is my first good quality sweatshirt. Pretty cool texture, very soft, well constructed, good fit. Neckline isn't too wide. I'd say it's definitely worth what I payed for it.

Will take some photos in the next couple of days. I'm still going to get a Warehouse 404 if they re-make those next season and will do a comparison.

Not many companies produce true loopwheeled fabric these days as far as I know.

Kanekichi Knitting Company Ltd, Japan and Merz B. Schwanen in Germany (or at least, the factory in the Swabian Alps that they use, don't know if they own it).

I have seen one blog post online to suggest that a mill in Japan called Toki Sen-i Co. Ltd also has some, but no other sources (whereas I have seen several sources and photos for Kanekichi). The Flat Head apparently has at least one of their own machines as well iirc?

Speaking of loopwheeled tees I need to get some more for the summer, it's been a few years since I've stocked up and some of mine are starting to show some wear.
Plus with my recent weight loss I need a smaller size in a few different things.

If the sizing works, I recommend the recent Loop & Weft San Joaquin Cotton tees & henleys (LRC1037 & LRC1018). Extremely comfortable, breathable and the fabric has a fair bit of give.

  10. After being super impressed with both of my Loop & Weft tees that I bought last year I insta-kopped the two new henleys that just went up on Okayama Denim

Picked up the Egyptian cotton one in Ivory, L and the San Joaquin cotton one in XL

  11. I thought this topic was going to be about low rise jeans. I am glad that it was the opposite.

I have similar issues to everyone here. I have a 32-33" waist and I will not go below an 11" rise and I really prefer 12" or higher. I think that the back rise is even more critical than the front because I hate it when jeans or pants are pulled down at the back when I sit. I have a relatively full seat for my height and weight.

Therefore, I go by a total rise minimum. I have found that the absolute lowest total rise that is comfortable for me is 27". My minimum front rise measurement is 11", as long as it is accompanied with a back rise of 16" or greater (but preferably more). My minimum back rise is 15" and I've found that only works for me if the front rise is 12" or higher.

    Some examples

Stan Ray USA Fatigue Pant Tapered Fit, Size 31: 12.5" front rise, 15" back rise
Chad Prom Linen pants, size 3: 11" front rise, 17.75" back rise

For the hips I can fit into a minimum of 19-19.5 across the hips, but it's really tight and that affects the comfort when walking and sitting. I think my hips ideal fit is 20.5"-21"

I didn't find any of my jeans losing significant crispness after an initial machine wash and line drying. IIRC the 20s even got crisper in feel and texture.

The hardness of water will drastically affect how stiff something is when it comes out of a soak or wash. Here in my current city the water is hard. We have filters on the sink tap for drinking and most new homes probably install a water softening unit for the house.

Stuff comes out of the wash stiff as a board, even knit t-shirts unless I spin dry it, and/or or use a softening agent in the wash/soak.

I can't wait to move to a city with soft water again, I hate hard water for washing!
