  1. Yeah, when I had like 10kg more and I bought my JB0716, I got a 31 first because the waist measurement seemed fine, but I couldn't get them over my legs. Had to go with a 33. Now that I've lost some weight I wish I had the 31 again....

Maybe try a 33 and shrink the waist down? Although I hate it when I have to go through so much trouble to get a pair to fit.

I actually bought the Eternal Patchwork denim suit. Really fun pieces, lightweight denim in a couple of different colors and shades. Pants are hemmed really short though - I'm not a tall guy at all and they are very short, even on me (as you can see in the picture). If you don't like this asthetic, don't buy them. They are really comfortable though. Perfect for summer or even with a pair of sneakers for an ultra casual look.

  3. Japan Blue - these ARE oversized by about two inches in the waist, right? Could those of you who own them confirm?

Regular or tapered models in particular. Thanks....

The sanforized models, yes. Between one to two inches in the waist. Unsanforized, not so sure (i.e. the Monster fabric). Be sure to double check the thigh measurements though, can be a bit tricky.

  4. Let's see what actual wear does to them - I got Gnomes pair the other day in W35 and I get the feeling that I could get away with a W34 or even a W33...

This whole discussion about shrinkage is exaggerated it seems. Looks like size-up-1 (from real size) is a good suggestion, no need for panic.

Indeed, which might actually mean that I'd be able to pull off a size 30 here. Just as I had decided to buy Fullcount for my next pair because the size 31 is sold out at Denimio (and I still got some store credit left there). Decisions, decisions.

  5. I guess maybe I'm a dirty capitalist but I've always been of the opinion if you can't compete that means you've got a bad business model.  BiG/SE have a great thing going because they actually have these items in stock so you can look, feel and size.  For the average joe (someone not posting on a denim forum) they don't want to buy expensive clothes before being able to try it on.  So BiG/SE have a great market there.  The only time it feels scummy is if someone uses SE/BiG to determine sizing, get great customer service and help at the retail store then goes home to "think about it" and just purchases the same thing from Rakuten.  I have an issue with that.  But that relies upon hoping people aren't assholes which in my experience with people is a pretty big jump.

See, in general, I agree with you.

But the reality is that it is actually impossible for retailers to compete with Denimio/Rakuten. They are not playing in the same field. Denimio/Rakuten buys from the Japanese brands, offers the Japanese retail price for international customers, has free/cheap shipping, and let's just say that if you're "lucky", no taxes for you.

Now an international retailer buys from the japanese brands, has to pay shipping fees and import taxes and also has to buy enough items so that it makes an international business transaction worthwile for the brand. And then they have to add taxes to the price if they are selling to a local audience (and are not shipping internationally as well were certain taxes can be waved) If an international retailer would try to compete pricing wise with Denimio/rakuten and offer the same price as in Japan, they would (probably) be operating at a significant loss.

Now, I agree that brick and mortar stores have certain advantages - nice atmosphere, helpful staff, you can try on stuff etc., but there always comes a point where those things (which the store has to pay for as well) do not outweigh your (as a customer) monetary benefit of getting the stuff A LOT cheaper directly from Japan, with the added benefit of not even having to leave the house.

AGAIN, I'm no trying to demonize anyone here. Both options have their merits and their place in the industry. And stores like SE/BIG will probably survive regardless of this, because they have an audience. But if you are a smaller retail shop who has to rely on a key group of people to buy the articles through you, japanese shops can be considered a huge problem. Especially because there is no way for you to come even close to offering a similar price (or even some details - you can't attach the red tab in the States for example).

Meh, went completely off-topic here, apologies guys.

    Jacket looks pretty great dwilson.

  6. That entire thing as a tad messy since Kiya said on reddit he never once blocked TSG from being stocked.

I wasn't trying to cast blame on anyone - and even if some store prevented Denimio from getting business their reasoning would be understandable (because there is no way for them to compete pricing wise) - this is just what I remember hearing as the reasoning provided. If's probably not the whole story, I just brought it up because Fullcount being pulled would not be the first time Denimio had problems stocking/keeping a brand around.

EDIT: I agree with what Blue Nemo said. For me, as a consumer, Denimio is great and beneficial. But if you think about it from the perspective of international retailers it gets troublesome because the retailers have to count on their clients not being internet-savvy enough to order directly from Japan.

  7. Don't forget that this has happened before. Pretty sure Denimio were very close to stocking The Strike Gold and then it got pulled last minute, if I remember correctly due to pressure from international retailers who TSG understandably didn't want to piss off by giving business to Denimio.

  8. ^Sure, I'd be interested in seeing some pictures. Where did you order it from?

I'm actually thinking about getting a pair of 2000 #1, luckily the short inseam is no problem for me. Just need to figure out the sizing and which denim (EDIT: the regular #1 Denim or Gatagata) to get! It's either that or Fullcount for my next pair...

  9. ^Still looking great midnite9, and it looks like they've held up pretty well, so you can enjoy them for a long time to come. IMO the XX-012 react amazingly to washing and get better each time they come out of the machine.

  10. Nice pickup Frost.  I love TSG crew necks.  May pick up a few more blanks as undershirts for this coming winter.  My "Desert Turtles" TSG crew neck has become a weekly staple for me.

Like you said I'm a Small in US sizing and require a L in TSG.  Though I feel that is not unusual for most Japanese brands.  I wear L in Samurai and SDA as well.  What I love about Japanese sizing is Large basically means "Bigger shoulders and chest" but it doesn't massively increase the waist.

On a side note I have a TSG v-neck in white.  It is getting some yellow pit stains.  But it has the TSG logo on the sleeve so I'm nervous to bleach the entire thing.  Any tips?

Thanks man, and you're right, they are absolutely great. The more I wear it, the more I like it.

And yes, the sizing thing is of course true, especiall for T-Shirts or loopwheeled Sweats/Hoodies. For button downs I can usually get away with an S/M even in Japanese brands, but certainly not with tees.

And the "bigger shoulders & bigger chest" assessment seems to be true and I like this as well. I hate it when my t-shirts that I don't necessarily only want to use as a never-seen undershirt are skin tight, but with most western Brands an increase in sizing makes them way too loose everywhere else to look flattering IMO.

You could try to "spot-bleach" the thing, although I haven't tried it myself. Mix a bleach solution with water, turn the shirt inside out and work on a surface that you have protected from the bleach/don't care about it, and use a (white) washcloth to put the solution on the stains and then wash it off afterwards. There are also products that are labeled "color safe bleach" which supposedly only attack the stains and not the color, but I have no experience with them either. Good luck either way.

  11. Also that is another thing I don't get.  Reddit's love for Denimio.  I've bought from them.  Yeah it was easy.  But no easier than 2nd/pirates/klax-on/au-rodeo ... basically any rakuten store I've used.  It is like all the people on reddit just realized Oni just now exists because Denimio stocks them but you could have easily bought them at Japanese prices way, way before Denimio.

Yes, but that would require a certain amount of time and research invested into what Rakuten/those stores are, and I believe that most (not all) people on reddit are not willing to put in any effort into their search for a pair - just look at the million of questions asked there that could be solved by common sense/one minute of googling. Someday someone mentions that Denimio started stocking ONI and all the people who were too lazy to google/acquire the brand beforehand immediately jump on it.

  12. Recently bought a The Strike Gold shirt SGT019 in black. Great short and boxy fit, incredibly comfortable, and the weight also feels pretty perfect - not light at all but not unbearably heavy either. Sizing wise I actually had to go with a size L, although I'm normally a size S in most European/American brands. So, as always, double check the size charts guys...
