  1. @tion4-> Sorry to take so long to reply, I was one of those people who picked up a pair of SEXSG24 back when they were released. No real evo to share, as they were part of my rotation in the winter and only have about 1-2 months of wear. After a couple washes they have already lost all stiffness, though the material still has too much texture to really be considered soft. There's a lot of visible texture in the variation of the dark indigo and white weft show-through, and none of the wear is really visible.

For fit, I got a size 33 in the standard tapered SEXSG24, as compared to a 30 in the Fullcount 1101 and a 31 in Ande Whall Caribous.

The SEXSG24 is definitely a different cut than the other two. It's a noticeably lower rise (with a larger waistband to fit lower on the hips) than the other two and fits somewhat tighter through the thighs than Fullcounts, but I can still comfortably move. The difference is visible, too, with the Strike Golds clearly looking like a more modern, close cut through the thighs and top block versus the classic silhouette of the other two. Can provide measurement comparisons if that helps.

  2. The 3012 has a really even taper through the entire leg below mid-thigh, with a lot below the knee. It's a very strong carrot shape with an almost billowy top block and steady taper from the thighs down to the small leg opening. I don't think you will necessarily have an issue with the knee being too narrow, as my pair does not feel tight around the knee at all. It's just a bit of an extreme look, so be sure you will be ok with that.

  3. ^ Sure, I have a pair of the 3012, as do a couple other people on the forum. Though I don't think I've seen a worn-in pair anywhere yet. What would you like to know?

  4. Wolfofthesea is in western Canada if it saves money on shipping to only mail them across the US-Canada border once, otherwise go for it, Hensch!

Mandel, got you, I'll edit the list at the beginning of the post. I think there's about 5-6 people signed up across North America, so does around this winter sound ok?

  5. The back pockets aren't just lower, they're shorter too. Normal Stevenson pockets like on the 727 and 767 appear to be a bit taller than standard jean back pockets, while the 714 pockets barely accommodate my rather small wallet. Still damn nice jeans though - great photos and nice wear, melbatoast.

  6. ^ In the early months, I'll admit that I didn't really see why the Ooes suggested the #17 fabric. It was very appealing raw and crispy, but then felt kind of boring after a couple washes and was very slow to show fading. These past few months, as the jeans are starting to show considerable wear and developing amazing texture, I've finally understood why they consider this denim something special. Guess it shows to just trust the experts...

  7. Very true. Is there a vein of workwear revival/repro that uses wool or other materials that are better for windy, wet winter weather? I love my flannels for fall and spring days, and sweatshirts can be a nice mid-layer, but I've found myself turning to my grandfather's old boiled-wool Guernsey sweater and some other fisherman-inspired sweaters for actual cold or for any clammy inclement weather. It surprises me that I haven't seen these kinds of marine-inspired workwear designs among the brands commonly discussed on this forum, since there are so many days and tasks where cotton fares poorly.

Side note: Ended up getting a couple sweaters from a small company called La Paz when I was in Portugal, and those have been wonderful for rainy winter days. They do all their production in Portugal, with materials mostly sourced there as well (especially for wool knits), and seemed like they might be of some interest to the forum.

  8. That's a world tour pair? Really impressive how much contrast they've kept, especially having defined combs. Never really found a pair of IH that floated my boat, but can't deny their quality.

  9. ^^ My experience with the 18 oz sanforized Momotaro fabric was that it's very dense, and tough to stretch. You might get a full size of stretch, but you'll be working for it. If you get a pair that fits you well from the start (accounting for the initial stiffness), it will stay a good fit rather than getting too loose.

My first pair of Momos was the 18 oz natural tapered in size 30 (down from my typical 31 in most brands) and I sized them to be a bit tight when fully buttoned, assuming they would stretch to comfortable. After 3-4 months, they never really stretched enough to be an easy fit for all-day wear, and they've been sitting in a drawer for the past year or two. My new pair in size 31 seems to be spot on.

    NYC winters look amazing.

Ehhhhhhh... I wouldn't come here in the winter time. We get really big snows that are absolutely beautiful for a few days, but it's unreliable and happens maybe once every two years on average. 90% of our winter time, it's just cold and grey and all the trees are dead. Come in the spring or fall! Those months have the best weather and the most going on, unless you want to come for some huge party holiday like NYE.

  11. @ReverendGlasseye I don't expect the jeans to be in my hands for quite some time - we've got about 6-7 people lined up across the US and Canada who will have the jeans before they end up back with me. We can definitely have them wind your way around late June or July, there's no need to stick to one particular order across the US.

Iceland should be a lot of fun, enjoy! Had a crazy long weekend there a few years back, with about 10-15 of us taking advantage of some very low fares. Absolutely beautiful, and that 24-hour sun will mess you up on a night out drinking...
