Is that some kind of "German fairy tale playground"? Because apart from the brick road this could be a shot taken in any random small town in upper bavaria ;)

You would be correct! It's a mini German village in Huntington Beach, CA. Fake? Yes. Nice to have in suburbia despite this? Also yes.

Isn't @Max Power German? He could probably weigh in on this better.

I do want to go to real German someday :P

  2. I'm still in that honeymoon period largely because I keep discovering new brands and styles that I really love.

Something that I think helps me (and likely helps others as well) is being interested in far more than just denim. In fact, denim itself is fairly low on my list of favorite clothing items right now.

Ever since I got into this world of denim/work wear/being a beardless urban lumberjack, I've always cared about leather jackets, engineer boots, and outerwear more than jeans. Then there's shirts, sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc. I'm also obsessed with sunglasses and hair products, so I have a lot of ways to help diversify my narcissism.

Even in terms of pants/bottoms, denim is not my favorite item now. Sure, I wear it a lot, but right now, I'm far more interested in getting great pairs of nice chinos/pants/trousers from brands such as Freewheelers, Mister Freedom, and Stevenson Overall Co. As we speak, I'm attempting to get a pair of moleskin pants from Freewheelers that I've wanted for months from South Korea of all places.

I'm sure there will be points that my interest in raw denim, clothing, etc will drop, but I doubt it will ever completely disappear. For example, I have been a drummer for almost 15 years. I don't care about it as much as I used to and all my drum gear money has gone into clothing lately, but I still play and in fact have a second job where I play drums every week, sometimes more.

I've been attending denim-specific events which is very fun (and kinda gets my girl into the scene as well). I think meeting people in person that are involved in this scene is helpful to keep me addicted to the clothing itself.

I'll be going to Japan this summer and meeting/visiting quite a few shops and brands as well as getting a pair of White Kloud and a trip like this helps keep my interest very high.

I don't see my interest ever fully disappearing. I'm more worried about not having enough money to fuel my atrocious spending habits!

    Share the knowledge then Dude!

I don't want to be too public for risk of getting the store in trouble. I don't know how militant RMC is about their overseas policies.

Anyone who wants the name and link of the store can PM me though just as a couple of members already have

WOAH! Crazy I live like less than 5 minutes away from there! I think the packing house is a glorified Hipster Cafeteria lol

Haha nice! It's got some good food, but we were there for Umami Burger. I love that place.

man I want to steal you that Grizzly jacket badly, it looks so good.

And YES to those Freewheelers jeans! lovely fit and they look great with the boots.

Thanks! It's my most prized possession.

I knew you would like the fit on those FW jeans. I have to admit they felt like too wide of a cut at first, but the more I wear them, the more I love the fit of them. I'll have to get a more proper pic of them up.

Sagara Boots(Indonesia) and Unmarked(Mexico) boots cost the same as Red Wings but the quality seem much better IMO

True. My brother has a pair of Sagara that are very well made. Some of the leather options are fairly poor, but the construction is quite a lot better than Red Wing and competitive with many higher-end makers.

Sure, whoever thinks Iron Rangers and a Gustin jeans are the best ever is overrating them, but I still think that it's not fair to compare boots that belong to completely different price levels. It's another thing to say that RW is maybe a tad overpriced for the quality they deliver ;)

I did say that. I said they aren't actually worth the price and it would be worth it to step up to Wesco based on the pricing.

The measurements on roys shirts kill me. I'd love to own one but the shoulders are too damn small and length too damn long, always

Same. I wanted to get this one, but I can't wear a short sleeve shirt that long.

    Thanks for that dwth. ;)

But I'm not on Instagrim, Farcebook, Twatter etc.

Ah, well then I guess you are stuck with emailing haha.

A lot of brands are quicker to respond to DM than email. Conner's Sewing Factory is infamous for that for example.

what are they lacking in quality exactly when compared to other boot companies? Not liking RW's aesthetics is one thing but not liking them because of the leather quality or construction is another, and something you omitted.Like I said, I don't own any RW's so I don't really have an objective opinion on the quality of their boots, i'm just curious why you think RW is so overrated and not up to the same level of quality as other companies? Is it because a lot of guys wear them and can be found anywhere?

The leather did not seem up to the same level as other boots such as Wesco, Viberg, etc.

Also, the stitching and construction was definitely less than stellar which is why I did not buy a pair. I'm not the only person who has seen mediocre construction quality from Red Wing so I know that my experience is some isolated incident.

@oomslokop lol I will admit that owning the likes of Clinch makes me a bit of a snob, but even so, I still can appreciate less expensive products. I still wear my Vietnamese Clark's desert boots that I bought for $45 and from what I have seen, were actually better stitched and constructed than some (and please note that I said some) of the Red Wings I have seen.

I'm not trying to tell everyone to hate Red Wing. I just think they are overrated and I dislike them. Everyone is allowed their own opinion and I think mine is at least well-founded

that's a fairly broad generalization you're painting there aren't you? I used to like Gustin and have 4 pairs of their jeans....same with N&F. They're a low cost alternative for people who aren't quite willing, or don't see the appeal in spending $220+ on a single pair of raw denim. Quality is subjective and while I do have expensive denim in my closet (like Strike Gold & 3sixteen) I no longer find it appealing to drop 3 bills on a pair of denim because of how slubby they are or which denim mill made the fabric. If the fit sucks then what's the point? Same goes for footwear. I don't own any RW boots but I wouldn't rule out buying a pair if it were on sale. I have a pair of Indy's that I never wear and kinda like Viberg and Truman, but their silhouettes are weird, so that saves me an easy $700.

I've seen pics of dudes wearing an IH flannel and IH jeans but a sh*tty pair of $80 boots. My first thought is, why would someone go through the expense of paying over $600 for a flannel shirt and jeans but skimp on footwear? At the end of the day jeans are jeans and I no longer care about these types of inconsistencies. They're made out of cotton and a pair of $350 IH's will fade the same as a pair of $80 Gustins or $150 N&F. Likewise, boots are boots and they will get worn out with time.

Of course it's a generalization. I don't like Red Wing. What I have tried on has lacked in quality and I think the boots are just ugly.

There's nothing wrong with going cheaper if you want to or have to. I'm just giving my opinion that Red Wing are overrated. I'm not sure why you quoted me when you really didn't counter my point about that.

Gustin and N&F have their place as well. I wore N&F and liked them, but was not aware of other brands.

I also think it's fine if you know about Gustin as well as stuff like Freewheelers, Flat Head, Iron Heart, Ooe, etc and still choose Gustin due to price as long as you know why. My complaint is the people espousing Gustin and Red Wing as "the best" when we know that that is not true. Especially with Red Wing, the quality is not high enough for them to be considered in such a way.
