So I've been daily driving a 3a-1 for the last couple of years with 13" to 15" laptops, need to use a mac at work though and got a new 16" macbook pro this week that I can barely fit into the 3a-1. While its still possible, I get really uncomfortable with how the teeth of the zipper scratch against the device. Would preferably add some kind of sleeve as well and I have a hard time believing I could make that fit into the 3a-1.

At the moment I'm leaning towards purchasing a backjag laptop insert for my 3a-5ts and start using that as my daily instead, it's a far bulkier bag though and I'd miss the mezanine pockets on the 3a-1 which are so extremely useful. The insert alone is €150 if I'd want to add a pair of MK1s that another 2x €250 at which is feels I could just as well comission a bigger 3a-1 for a similar price.

Anyone with similar experiences of the 3a-1 and bigger laptops or with some input/advice? :D

The 3A-5 is my goto for that reason, it can accommodate pretty much everything. The problem though is all-up weight. The Bagjack insert is a tad lighter than the original Acronym inserts but they're not as good. If  I need a more 'pack stuff in' aspect than the 3A-1 while keeping the compact dimensions I tend to swap to a Pogo.

Though if I read your post again and your reservations about the relatively low cost of the Bagjack sleeves, are we just talking about all Chinese knockoffs? Those I'd have no experience with.

does anyone ever actually use the gravity pocket? even the smoothest demo requires an aggressive karate chop.. ya'll doing that at the cafe register?

Yeah, for my smaller phones. I have to admit that it's gotten less useful over the years as my main phones have got bigger.

The pocket is, or should I say was before... you know... also useful for transit cards, and even going forwards contactless payment if you refuse to join the Apple mindlessdronehive with a Watch. No need to take your card out, just brush your sleeve against the reader.

  3. S-J14 dry clean disaster.

Quite a few of my ventile stuff has started to go a slightly shaggy dark grey, but this is actually an actual light grey in places.

    What do?

  4.  it's not the only ss piece they've got.

the field shirt looks even more amazing than i expected.

I'm guessing it looks like crap / indistinguishable from anything else when worn unless you have it tailored (if you can).

I've had multiple go's at sizing but I still feel like I'm walking around in a portable tent with most of Veilance outerwear so I'm not holding out any hope for other layers.

    Whereas ACR is like...

    ...oooh, slinky.

  5. I'd size it carefully depending on the size of your laptop. Anything up to 13" is pretty practical, but beyond you might have issues unless you move up a size or two.

You do get what you pay for: The Classics line has the velcro bucket that you can use all the ACR/Bagjack internal accessories with, but doesn't have the finish of the NXL/ACR - no shoulder pad, regular plastic snap-together closure, regular nylon straps instead of the fine-woven seatbelt like strap, etc. Fine for everyday use tho

If you are buying the Pogo, look at the Special Editions as well -  they often do different colourways.

  6. Love my Acronym 3a-1, but i am getting a laptop soon and i would need a bag for it.

I've been hearing people struggle with laptops in the 3a-1 and that it wears it out. So im looking for a messenger bag about the same size but with a laptop sleeve/compartment for 15 inch computers for a descent price!

Also something that wont give me a neck strain, haha

    Thanks for any help!

It depends on the weight you're going to hit.

My typical carry in e.g. a Bagjack Pogo is:

    - Bagjack laptop sleeve
    - Pen holder with pen & stylii
    - All purpose pouch for stuff
    - Wallet, coin pouch
    - 2 phones
    - Sony RX100 / other compact
    - Surface 3 / iPad Pro with Keyboard Covers
    - Folding mini umbrella

That's just under 3Kgs, and it's what I consider within a comfortable carry.

At other times I can head out with the 3A-5TS / TSR and the following:

    - 3A-L1-17
    - Pen holder with pen & stylii
    - Bagjack tablet pouch
    - Maybe a 3A-MP2TS or two
    - All purpose pouch for stuff
    - Wallet, coin pouch
    - 2-3 phones
    - Leica Q / M with the smaller lenses
    - Surface Book / Macbook Pro 13-inch
    - Folding mini umbrella

This is like 5Kg all-up. In terms of numbers that's 'only' 2Kg more, but it's a whole different ballgame to lug for a day.

At this level, if I know I'm not going to get a break for most of the day or am going to an M with a bigger / heavier lens or one of my other mirrorless cameras with a larger lens, I make the switch to the Isar or Nile. Backpacks are more of a hassle to get at of course, especially when you compare and contrast with the Bagjack / ACR method of "pull tab then do the half-hula" but anything above a 4Kg (bag included) carry day in, day out will likely mean consequences for your shoulder / neck /  back.

Another messenger that will take anything up to a 17" (and no added costs for a laptop sleeve) but is still pretty lightweight and versatile is the Hazard4 Messenger Of Doom. It's a bit too walt for me though.
  7. I'd been sort of struggling with this too then I took a look at some of the fit photos on the site and from what I can see they seem to wear them quite high on the waist. I think I was slinging them too low in addition to the native drop-crotch and it just resulted in this big mass of material that stuck right out. In the pics of Erlsn (I forget his height but I think it was mentioned before - maybe 5'10?) he has them riding up his legs a fair bit and look belted quite high on his waist but doesn't have the sticking out bit.

Etaproof is a bit of a bugger when you start washing them. I noticed with my older Acronym pieces that they start fading pretty fast, and it's a colossal crapshoot for re-doing the waterproofing treatment. Machines seem to destroy Etaproof as well.

  8. anyone had experience with Baicyclon messenger bags?

recently grabbed an ACR Interops jacket so looking for a cheaper alternative to a 3a messenger bag with a quick release feature to fully take advantage of the interops system. Any other quick release systems out there other than Baicyclon/Bagjack?

As the other dude pointed out lots have quick release systems. If you want cheap and UK then you could even consider Grim (http://www.grimbags.co.uk/shop/4567712125) - yeah, as in Grim Oop North har har - it doesn't look like it has 'quick release' in the Bagjack vein but maybe it's just as fast to cinch - and it looks like it actually uses seatbelt material like ACR instead of the cheaper woven stuff that basic Bagjack gets.

The Bagjack stuff is internally compatible with ACR tho of course
