  1. With spirits soaring, we hit the road to Stratford-Upon-Avon!RBmqrhu.jpg

Really jealous of this countryside and the lack of billboards!Y5V4MIX.jpg

Forgot to take many pictures in Stratford since we were only there for a bit, but we sang in Guild Chapel which was great!uoQZSlU.jpg

They also had this great photorealistic art hanging upibKtnCU.jpg

Then we made our way to Oxford! We Stayed at Keeble CollegegRF3f5G.jpg

We had breakfast in the dining hall that inspired the Harry Potter one! (Also copped a sick Eisteddfod sweater before I left)DVLLRbP.jpg

Then Walked around the city with our tour guide the next day, before our performanceiiPnh3W.jpg

We stopped in at Christ Church Cathedral for a little sing (Which resulted with the music director handing our conductor a card and nicely demanded that we come back, no saying no!)IFP6oHe.jpg

  2. So this is a little late, but this was my Choir Tour to the UK!

Starting at the lovely Llangollen Eisteddfod

A gorgeous town as well, with a river! (We don't see too much of that in SoCal)fj9d54z.jpg

A view from a local pub. That's a castle ruin on top of the shining hill!

I had to get one of me having fish and chips for my grandpa

We really loved this pub. Go to the Cornmill when you're in Llangollen we went there like 3 times!Acs31QK.jpg

Later on in the Competition we had a parade!

Someone played a Hurdygurdy! As a music history major, hearing one live was on my bucket listUzP4Wzd.jpgThen we won Choir of the World! Along with 2 other first places and a 2nd!2lHLqCR.jpg

  3. It is definitely not safe to be wearing brass jewelry.  Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.  Copper will turn your skin green over time but isn't that harmful to you, the same goes with zinc but isn't as common.  The issue is that most brass contains nickel and nickel can be poisonous.  Then last but not least you have lead which most brass contains .5% to 2% lead, and that's the really bad thing here.  Lead can lead to brain and organ damage.  How much lead will get into your bloodstream if you wear brass jewelry?  I have no idea, but basic studies show that you can absorb lead through metals through the skin so it's best not to be wearing brass rings or necklaces.

Shoot. Ive been carrying a brass corter hook around for like 2 years and play both a nickel and brass pennywhistle. I wonder if its had an effect on me...

Ooes are still going strong and just got the boots today. I'm absolutely loving them. They're everything a pair of clarks should be. They feel more comfortable from the first wear than my others do with months of wear. I meant to post more pics of my jeans, but rehearsing and memorizing music for our competition in Wales next week is keeping me pretty occupied. If anyone in the UK is going to the Eisteddfod in Llangollen, be sure to come see our set for some awesome American choral music! And more!

  5. I know I pretty much never post, but today was such an amazing day I can't even believe it. One of my favorite living Composers, Eric Whitacre came to our choir rehearsal and ran us through 2 of his pieces (2 of my favorite: Lux Arumque and A Boy and a Girl) and I haven't left cloud 9 after that and a few questions/answers.

    vnGUl8J.jpg

I actually said the dumbest, most awkward thing to him too before I got to get a picture with him. I meant to tell him how much his music meant to me when I first heard it in high school, and that it was one thing that inspired me to pursue music in college,

but instead, trembling, I ended up saying to him "Your music helped me get through high school"

    he replied, "Oh. Really?"

I couldn't recover. I just said "Yes. Thank you. I love it."

So one of my favorite composers thinks I was a kid that cried to his music after some sort of teenage angst set in. Lol oh well. Still an amazing day.

And you can kind of see my Ooe's. I'm really liking the progress on them, coming up on 1 year now, and they've had at least 1-2 washes a month. I'll post more detailed pics once finals and juries are over. Loving everyone's progress though, what exciting things you all have done!

  6. I know this isn't denim related, but I thought you all might like to hear something my choir did to honor the victims of the terror attacks. Since Nohemi Gonzalez went to our University, we felt there was something more we could do to give back, beyond singing at her vigil. So yesterday, we rehearsed and recorded Jake Runstad's "Let my Love be Heard" and I think it turned out to be something really special

    Text:

    A Prayer
    by Alfred Noyes

    Angels, where you soar
         Up to God’s own light,
    Take my own lost bird
         On your hearts tonight;
    And as grief once more
         Mounts to heaven and sings,
    Let my love be heard
         Whispering in your wings.

  7. So today was the first actually cool day in SoCal. I realized I don't have a nice go-to hoodie anymore since my mom accidentally did my laundry during a visit and dried and shrank my buzz rickson hoodie... Though it was sort of a blessing in disguise since I was able to give it to this girl I sort of have a crush on, and it's still being worn, but I think for my next hoodie, I want one that'll suit the western frame better. I'm about 6'3" The BR one was a size large and still was barely touching my belt line.

Should I bother with finding a longer sized Japanese brand? Or should I just get like a reigning champ? Since I know those will fit taller, skinnier dudes like myself.

  8. Same goes with those who get into raw denim then decide they want raw everything and eventually seem to ONLY wear Raw denim work shirt, jacket, indigo dyed accessories, raw denim, boots.

Stuff like that makes me cringe. I mean I love indigo as much as the next guy, but I hate seeing people make it a challenge lol

I'm looking at YOU, Mr Freedom:

  9. I have come to realize that none of my pants fit me that well.

Your body type seems similar to mine. I found what made me most dissatisfied with my pants was the rise. I couldn't fathom why my nuts were feeling squanched all the time, until I realized I spent every other minute hiking up my pants as far as they'd go.

I think whatever brand/cut you go for, you should consider a higher rise maybe around 11"-11.5"

Just make sure to account for the waistband/shrinkage at the higher part of your waist where they'll sit, if you plan to go that route.

  10. Zach, I see those are a sz 33. What is your standard size in most denim? Trying to be sure about sizing of these before purchasing . Still hard for me to grasp it is recommended to buy these two sizes up.

Yeah my waist (when I'm not inhaling food and stressing) is around 31.5. I went up 2 sizes along with Broark. They shrink from the tagged size.

  11. It's been a while since I've posted, but now that life is sort of settling down again, I've found time to devote to jeans pictures!

I'll post more about that in the DWC thread/forum

These are my OA02XXs from earlier this year after a wash! I've actually lost count with the washes... But it's usually every 3-4 weeks when they start feeling nasty.

And fit pics in the new apartment!

    NGqczCa.jpgqWehQFI.jpg

I'm really happy with these still. I think they're turning out amazing, and they're still the most comfortable, best fitting thing I own!

  12. Yeah I'm hoping to get one for my brother. I tried on a large in-store once, and it fit perfect, but that was before a wash. I'm told they shrink around a size, so I figure for myself I'd get an XL, and my brother is always one size up, so he'd need an XXL.

I guess they wouldn't differ too much lengthwise though so I'm not even sure I can handle a washed one...
