  1. Ride more and more often. Even two hours a day you can plug in some good endurance.

70 miles a day isn't too bad but if the terrain is hilly, I hope you don't really plan on going too fast with the fixie bros, unless they're particularly physiologically pre-gifted.

Collegate cycling is great if you wanna race, but if you're looking to just kick around and have fun cycling, then check out local shops for group rides. If you really want to ride hard and race for cheap, it rules though. You should probably learn how to do a fast group-ride first though.

I'd only get a cross bike if you really want to ride cyclocross. A good 5-8 year old carbon road bike really ride so much better than cross bikes, and the positioning feels so much better.

Rode my first half-century yesterday so hopefully I can keep building up mileage.  Luckily the 140 mile ride is on a trail that is pretty  much flat the entire way.

I'm going to try to get started doing some group rides with my local shop and then see if I like it from there.

What's the general consensus on how much to spend for a good road bike? I'd rather spend more on something that I will like for a while but still want to keep the price reasonable.  Any recommendations on older carbon builds?  All of the trails here are gravel which is part of the reason I considered going cross instead of road

  2. I felt like I was finally done with dealing with bad anxiety/depression but lots of it seems to be coming back.  Spent the past year working with it (and it got better) but I think the consistently "bettering myself" and being positive eventually ran out. Damn.

Should probably try to get back into therapy

  3. Any tips for longer rides?  I'm going to try to do 140 miles over two days with two of my good friends and two of us are trying it fixed.  We've camping one night so I'm probably just getting a rear rack and strapping a hiking pack on the back.

Also, I know I've asked this before but what got everyone into cycling and riding more seriously? I bought a bike (Kona Paddywagon) just to commute and get in better shape and I've just been gradually adding miles to my rides.  I'm about to do my first half-century this weekend and am considering getting a cross or road bike in the near future.  I might try to join my school's cycling club as well.

  4. I e-mailed outlier and they aren't re-stocking the new ways.  Been stalking bet and eBay for a pair of 3 ways or new ways in my size for a while with no luck.  Any other places I should look?

Also, are the swrve shorts probably the best alternative?

  5. Merino is likely your best bet. I commute to work when the weather allows and I've been pretty happy with Icebreaker stuff. Just remember something to wash your face with if you're the sweaty type.

What advantages does Merino Wool have over a synthetic like heat tech?  Actual question, not trying to say they're equal

  6. I'm eventually getting rid of my car so I can bike everywhere but I need to make some wardrobe changes.

I'd like to be able to ride to class and not show up covered in sweat this summer. I've already got some outlier shorts on the way but besides a few airism tees I don't own anything near technical. Is my best bet to start with merino wool tees?

  7. Is it the general consensus to size up on the new way shorts? I've got larger/more muscular thighs.

Also, this is probably a stupid question but what underwear does everyone wear with their outlier stuff.  I was thinking of getting some icebreaker briefs and trying out the airism briefs as well.

  8. Does anyone know of places online to pick up 35mm film that is cheaper than amazon?  Also, I keep trying to post photos in here and can't get it to work. Is there something you have to do with your images or am I just that dumb?

  9. Thanks for the replies everyone. Littlemike I really like the look of the city slacker bag.  Will have to look into that.

Marw- do you think the Arkive would fit an slr, laptop, and a few textbooks?  The main reason I'm leaning towards going for the Timbuk2 is that I haven't seen any of Mission Workshop's stuff in person and don't know how well they would keep everything organized and the weight equally distributed.

  10. Commuters- what bags are you guys using? I need something I can bike to class with that will hold my camera stuff, a few textbooks, and a laptop.

I've been looking at Timbuk 2 for a while and a local shop is having a sale on them.  I might end up buying either the custom or d-lux messenger. Any feedback on either?

Also been tempted to save up for Mission Workshop rambler.  I definitely like the aesthetics of the rambler more than a Timbuk 2 messenger, but the price-point is higher and I'm not sure how well it would keep school and camera stuff organized.  Should I go ahead and grab a Timbuk2 or hold off for the Rambler?

    More suggestions are always welcome.

  11. Hoping to find a backpack that I can bike with that will carry all of my school books and camera stuff. Does such a thing exist?  Might check out the Mission Workshop Rambler.

    Chobo what pack is that?
