  1. Very nice, Aho! Also for anyone interested in the ETA vs Sellita quality debate, I came across the below thread on omega forums during my research where the user “Archer” (experienced watchmaker, from the sounds of it) gives a very detailed breakdown of the different tooth profiles, parts availability and costs, etc.

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/sinn-356-valjoux7750-or-sellitasw500-help-thoughts.61081/

His remarks are about halfway down.

Big fan of the look and what the brand is doing but haven't been brave enough to pull the trigger just yet. How is the build quality etc so far?

So my main concerns at first were overall build quality, and whether or not the SW510 had been optimized or somehow altered to better accommodate manual winding vs the 7750/SW500, which I’ve read have been known to have problems when hand winding just like the 2824/SW200. So far, the case has been really great and it hides it’s thickness very well. The pushers are very crisp. The bezel was very hard to turn, but I’ll get to that in a minute. The tropic strap is actually quite thick and comfortable, and the buckle very high quality.

The manual winding action is quite nice, so that tells me that this probably isn’t just a 7750 clone with the rotor removed. It was quite hard when researching to find anything definitive about the SW510mbhb, in terms of what is different about the movement. Perhaps because it’s so new and only in a handful of watches at this point. Regardless, it is running +3 after four days, and I’m pretty sure it gained most of that after the first day. There isn’t much change I can discern during the last two days, but I don’t have a timegrapher(just going off of my atomic g shock).

So anyways, I was pretty thrilled with this piece, and decided to keep it. Then today, upon turning the very difficult bezel, and mind you this is bidirectional, so no ratcheting, the bezel literally popped off. It slides back on and stays firmly in place, but if you apply the smallest amount of upward pressure, it pops off.  The only thing holding it in place is a gasket. Is this normal for a friction bezel(that’s what this is right?)

Anyway, wrote hodinkee an email, because it probably needs to go back. Really irritated because this has been the best timekeeper I’ve had outside quartz.

  3. What do you guys think about this piece? Reissue of the original chronomaster. Manual wound sellita bi compax movt, no faux lume, actually very impressed with the quality. Wears pretty much like a vintage piece in terms of sizing, though I believe the bezel is 39mm across. Still trying to decide to keep or not, thus the sticker still on the crystal. Dial is pretty damn small.

I have the classic cardigan in olive size medium. The fit is very good. Even a little tight due to the heavy weight of the knit. The quality is outstanding. Maybe the fit of that submariner might be due to it's being a jacket style, not a sweater?

Yeah I think that may be the issue. Small is sold out, so can’t exchange it. Might get a shawl cardigan down the line though.

  5. I love a good bracelet actually, but aside from Tudor I haven’t found a super comfortable one. But for the club I actually considered it! My concern was the long lugs would have it sit too far away from the case

I have not had a pair of boots/shoe heels rebuilt specifically for this reason. I've only had 1 or maybe 2 pair with a non-sloped heel. I had a p[air of White's SJ rebuilt a few years ago, and they botched one of the heels. It was sloped inwards quite badly. I sent them back, and White's rebuilt the heel just on the one boot.

I'm a bit of an anomaly 'round here... my boot/shoe game is pretty weak. Primarily because I've become accustomed to wearing dead-flat foot wear w/ no heel, foot friendly with a wide forefoot, no arch support or cushioning. The boots/shoes that fit that criteria are not attractive. I do have a couple pair that can maybe be SuFu acceptable, lol.

Saying all that, I did cop some pairs of Grant Stone boots and shoes in their Black Friday sale. They'll suite me well for the rest of my days. Their one of the few makers of conventional footwear that offer a wide fit, EEE for some model, a sloped heel, and no arch support built into the last. And their price point in unrivaled for the quality. I need to post pics... I'm very pleased with them. But again, prolly frowned on my most here.

I was reading your post and was reminded by @fre-co’s Russell Mocs below; Russell used to offer a custom minimalist boot. It’s had a zero drop vibram rubber sole, and I think they also offered leather camp sole. I believe they also did wide widths. I never ponied up, but something to think about if you’re ever in the market.

Edit: they still make them apparently

  7. @discworkI really like it. It’s a strange anomaly in that it can do both tool and dress pretty well. Check out the #longinessector posts on insta; there’s some good examples of it dressed up there. It’s kind of ironic that this piece is probably what I would wear in dressier situations, and has the least polished steel surfaces of the 3 here. In fact only the case back is polished, and the rest is nicely brushed.

I have just a couple minor quibbles so far;   I forgot how noisy the 289X based movements can be. They also seem less solid somehow. Like if you tap the case you can hear it. Kind of hard to describe. That’s pretty minor though. Other thing is the 30m water resist. I’m never going to go swimming or anything with a leather strapped watch, but I always appreciate a bit more towards the “what if”. I just can’t understand how they couldn’t have gotten a bit more out of it. I’ve read some stuff on the dink about how 30m is plenty, blah blah blah. While I do agree, I guess I just get nervous with a snap on caseback, and push-in crown.

Other than that, it’s great so far. Perfect size for me. I find myself drawn to that space of 38-39mm lately. The dial is also something special in person.

  8. @mpukasI haven’t worn my pair yet and they’re still sitting on ice. Unfortunately nothing to report on them other than the initial measurements. They’re likely to be next in the queue if I can stop bringing in other pairs:D

@Double 0 Soul Mine do have the second tag, but Made for J Crew. I got them all when I was working for them and we carried Homespun at Liquor Store.

@Jared_Lee Jared, just wondering what your opinion is on Todd Snyder? I read somewhere that he was creative director or something at Jcrew awhile back (before muytjens?), and also recently read that TS is now utilizing the liquor store location. Just thought I’d ask, being that you worked there during their heyday.

Myself, I like much of what TS puts out, but find the quality to be hit or miss. Price on sale is usually good, but msrp a bit steep for what you get.

Sorry to derail the thread folks!

  10. ^ Not bad at all. I got shipping notification as well this morning. As I’m in the US, I shouldn’t be getting a customs charge on it. Which is a good thing, because I got boned pretty hard from customs via DHL twice this summer on two watches I ordered.

I have a pair of natural tapered on the way as well. Ordered the 605-70, which is a 13.5oz slubby denim.

Hey man, I went for a size 38, I compared to my current momotaro type 2 which is a tagged 40

When I saw the details I knew I had to get it. Ticks all the box's.

I actually have a type 2 from Momo also in 40, the one with the cobalt weft from a couple years ago. My best fitting jacket. Measurements were pretty close to the 40 on this new one. I probably could have gone with the 42 for extra room, but my god, the sleeve length on the 42 was ridiculous and the body length was quite long at 28.

How thick do you reckon the lining is? I think if it’s pretty standard “heavy” flannel I should be okay, like warehouse, momo etc. if it’s FH or IH heavy, I might be in trouble.

Measurements look great! Seems like they kept the wider shoulders and shorter length, and opened up the chest more. Still got some decent taper to the bottom opening, which I always liked about FH tops.

  13. I’ve found that many folks focus on their own mask wearing, and the statistics surrounding the rate of infection for the person wearing the mask around unmasked individuals. Masks are all about preventing the infected from transmitting the virus, rather than protecting oneself. But think about that; if everyone wears a mask, then we have to worry less on the receiving end.
