what u mean? why?
Each time I have posted in here it has been Common Projects. The first pair hooked me and now I am being strung along, but quite happily so. I am happy with the leathers they use, construction is solid, and the numbering is subtler than I imagined. Plus they fit nicely into my wardrobe.
Should be arriving soon!

Oh Stevie.

Fair question Ulysses! Let me check in with the rep.

I definitely appreciate the advice being given here, but it seems quite possible I am explaining myself poorly.
Timber, you probably hit on the base issue, which is that I don't want to seem uncultured. Growing up I was pretty damn sheltered and embarrassed myself more than once in front of my peers that I still don't look back on and find myself able to laugh about easily. Here's what I thought was the survivor theme song in grade school:
Having even my teachers laughing at me for my ignorance was not a feeling I enjoyed (though clearly this is a better song. I already knew what was up).
In regards to people's bad movies they like that I have seen: again, I have enjoyed all of these movies. I love kung fu movies, so Kung Pow of course struck a cord for me. Jackie Chan is someone who I find genuinely funny and good God the fact that he did all his own stunts still terrifies me when you look at the stunts he has done.
Its not that I can't enjoy movies/activities that critics/others have deemed "bad." It really isn't. I generally don't give a fuck about what other people think. It just stops you from having fun. Watched Gossip Girl because I liked the clothing and there was nobody around me who gave clothing a second thought. Watched a shit ton of anime in high school no one cared about. Saw Perks of Being a Wallflower four times in theaters because it was essentially a chance to relive high school where there was a group of friends that cared about me rather than tolerated me (plus Emma Watson).
I've fixated on Shooter because I've never seen something this tremendously awful in my eyes praised almost universally by so many people I'd like to understand. I won't continue to list reasons this movie is bad, there truly are too many to count, but as long as movies like this one remain popular its one less thing I have that I can talk with other people about and connect with other people on because it makes me unhappy to even think about what the monetary reward is for making a movie like Shooter compared to making a movie like Blue Valentine. And as long as it remains that way the independent theaters will continue to close down and be bought up to show movies like Shooter.
At this point its a societal issue and a personal issue for me. Its rare that I feel a sense of belonging without intentionally corralling my thoughts, even within my own family. So its hard to see evidence surrounding me that tells me that I don't get the day to day mindset of most people and I probably won't. From what I have seen, I don't want to. It just gets lonely sometimes.

Sandwiches that stick out recently in my memory are actually two homemade ones. One was a grilled cheese with leftover steak, green peppers, green onion, and tomato. The steak was thin cut and torn up into small pieces so it wouldn't pull the sandwich apart, and the green peppers and onion had been sitting together so their flavors had already been mingling. Add to that some heat, some cheese, and some good bread and things worked out quite well.
The other other was my father's thanksgiving sandwich. Again, a grilled sandwich, but quite a seasonal one. He found the magical ratio of sweet potatoes to cranberry sauce to turkey in a sandwich and it was phenomenal. His cranberry sauce is always tangy and just a bit bitter so it pairs with sweet potatoes in a way that is quite lovely. Add to that turkey, grill, and be happy.

my favorite movie of all time is terminator 2: judgement day
i'm not ashamed of that at all
who cares
I think more people care than you would imagine. Sure, my story rightfully indites me as a pretentious ass in some ways, but I grew up with an English major for a mother. I've been reading voraciously since I learned to read and at the age of 21 I've read, heard, or seen enough stories that I think distinguishing between those of worth and those that are hollow is an option. And I would hope that people I choose to be close to would be able to as well.
I don't like to see people I admire for one reason or another deciding that a product designed by an to increase adrenaline is deserving of their public praise. I don't to watch people be deceived by industries who have done research, concocted formulaic plots, and chosen actors to maximize profit. The story of the movie industry is far more interesting than a great deal of the movies created today because it is a story that, despite being told time and time again in history, bears repeating:
The beauty that humanity has created is never safe from its own greed.
Television and film have explored the glories and the follies of our past, present, and future. They have inspired audiences to continue with their daily lives because they want to find the perfect slices of life that have seen before them. Maybe they won't ever find them, but they live on and work so that perhaps their children might.
They often hold up a mirror to ourselves that is often uncomfortable to look into. Take Zero Dark Thirty. Taken as an art piece, as it should be, it made every American citizen who stayed for the duration ponder the lengths to which they would be willing to go for a sense of safety after having it shattered in a way that is not healing. Any discerning Christian who saw the film had to take a close look at whether they believed in utilitarianism or whether they truly believed in the strict moral code of the bible.
Take another film this year: Silver Linings Playbook. America has long stigmatized those who suffer with mental health issues and this film addressed the matter in a way that was honest and rarely came off heavy handed. It tells the love story of Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence who both play characters that have mental health issues. Robert De Niro's performance as the father of Bradley Cooper makes this movie so much more powerful because he manages to subtly make it more and more apparent that there is a family history of mental health issues. This family history of mental health issues is exactly what makes it so hard for their sons and daughters to even know that something is wrong and they need help.
Both of these movies I like to see discussed, because there is reason for discussion. But Shooter? Fuck me.
Movies should make you stop and think about why you live the way you do and why other people live the way they do. They should make you think about our species and the world we have created. It should make you question at what cost the world around you comes at, and what actions you should take in the future to shape this world. If a movie does this well, it sells itself. People recommend it to each other because they can't stop thinking about it; they want to discuss it with others.
The only time where making art to make money makes sense to me is when you live in poverty or a dangerous area, which comes up a lot in rap. To live comfortably and to have money be the sole motivation for your art is not sustainable for an artist or their fans.
Long-winded as per usual, but I care. This is one attempt at why.

Basically what you've just said is, "Do bad and dumb things and good stuff will happen to you."
Wait, you're the guy I argued with Kanye/Givenchy about! You're so optimistic and I'm so pessimistic. Ha! When will we get along?
Hahaha. I am an odd mix and it honestly depends on the day.
The reason I felt compelled to write that is that I'd love to see someone with sufu sensibilities do s/s and f/w show reviews on Youtube, post up fits in motion/with different layers on, and start discussions on the history of brands/designers and get rewarded in the same way. But it seems like few if any of us would be willing to step in front of a camera in the way that he is, and that does not work to our advantage in the world that we live in. Expressing your interests verbally to the world is a skill and a skill well worth developing.
Maybe I try to be the first. Pioneers are often rewarded! Unless they go even slightly unprepared. Then they get dysentery.

Do people think that Terminator 2 is a bad movie? I often hear it referred to as one of the better action movies made, and certainly the best of the Terminators.

A disturbing trend is emerging. Common Projects once again. This time I snatched a pair of the black crepe soled postal boots from ebay.

Just got home from Seattle and I have the final clarification email from Ebbets. The embroidery of (10) will cost us $2.00 extra per hat, but it has been part of every iteration and I think it's certainly worth that.
Final Price: $36.35 for all continental US, $40.50 for international customers, and $63.95 for two in the continental US.
After receiving advice from former organizers and the thread, I request that all payments go through Paypal.
Do not send payment as a gift. Because we are not sending as a gift, I am getting charged Paypal's fees. I will cover the two early birds so they do not have to resubmit payment but to those newly checking the thread the final price above includes the extra $2.00 for embroidery and covering Paypal fees.
The email address that I use for Paypal is [email protected]
I will note who has paid on the spreadsheet as payments come in. If we can manage to get all of our payments done by this weekend, they can start work on our order Monday morning. I'd like that to be our goal.

Post one up weed 69! It'd be great to have a thread for that. I am curious to try my hand as well.

As much as its easy to laugh at people who do this (and sometimes rightfully so; some people are uninformed and do not take the time to research the product or have an underdeveloped sense of style) but these people are dropping their anonymity on the internet and creating content. That shows a strong will to make things happen for yourself that is appealing to colleges you apply to, job interviews, etc.
Case in point, Kelleydenham showed me this guy on Youtube (recommendation came from Christos) and I watched his videos laughing at some truly horrendous streetwear. However, this kid is hustling. He gets free money for his clothes from Karmaloop, he makes money off of Youtube almost certainly, and because of is dedication to his channel he earned a scholarship to his college of choice for his "fashion sense."
Is this not what a lot of us would like to do? I mean, shit. I want to bash the idea of "buy less, buy better" into this kid's head so badly but the consumer culture that exists is undeniable, and we all start somewhere.
Tldr; Kid is streetwear stupid but I would love to be paid to shop, get paid to talk about clothes, and have my education at least partially paid for by studying clothing.

Down to the final stretch guys! Emailed our rep about the wool underbrim, and let us have this be the final discussion of the topic.
The current hat design for SuFu round three has a maroon wool underbrim. The green wool underbrim has been suggested as an option because it is a play off the normal green satin underbrim. Now a detail like that is something that certainly represents a lot of what we stand for when it comes to clothing. For most of us on SuFu, clothing occupies a different priority in life for us than it does for the majority of people who surround us. Looking at our clothes, many people would either think that we look slightly odd or not recognize the difference in the qualities of our clothing at all. However, to any of the members of our tribe of details and differences, a subtle change like this one earns respect and admiration because, as noted, no one thought to make a change like that before.
While I like this detail, I do not think it belongs on a maroon/creme hat.
I would love to see this detail implemented however. And I have good news in that regard: I am not going anywhere. The next time we do a Sufu hat purchase I can help organize it much more efficiently and we might be able to be done with design, interest, information, and payment in two weeks if we are slow.
I would personally love to see a green wool underbrim on a murdered out black hat or the charcoal hat with a black S that was the runner up for Sufu round three. And I think we should save it for one of those hats rather than trying to put it on a color scheme where it could end up clashing. As andrew said, we don't want to be looking like christmas.
Just my two cents, but let me thank everyone who's come to this thread and thrown in their opinion on design, helped me out with payment, etc. Once we get paid up hats are on the way.
As soon as I get an email back, my paypal we go up and we are on our way.

A girl who I liked in high school and who I thought I might like to date because she had a sense of humor, was always quite fashunz, and is majoring in design just mentioned that she loves the movie Shooter on Facebook and I realized how huge a turn off it is for me when people genuinely like movies that are just bad.
Rundown of Shooter: The protagonist's name in that movie is Bob Lee Swagger. That name made it through editing. The fuck. It stars Mark Wahlberg. It's a movie you watch to make fun of with your friends. The romantic interest and Wahlberg have zero chemistry. The whole thrust of the film is that the government and those who are involved are sometimes bad people. Holy shit. Mind blowing stuff.
If there is to be one last bastion of cultural elitism, let it be Sufu. These movies cannot become everyone's favorite movies.

Thanks for bringing that up Brozek. I will make sure to double check with the rep that our choices on options for the hat do not change its price, but as they were on the sheet I hope they would not. Now, I am sending a PM to people who have done this in the past, but I really want to start taking payments once we completely finalize the hat. To clarify, in what form should I ask people to send their payment? Gift or not?

Having now read through the whole thread, I have been rather uninformed on shirting in general due to poorly fitting, low quality shirts. The shirts I had purchased for me from childhood until I took over purchasing my own clothes were probably at least 1 inch too big in the neck every time, baggy as hell through the torso, and billowed out like sails. This is why I always gravitated towards shoes I guess. BUT having taken time to educate myself further on oxford shirting its just as interesting if not more so than shoes.
Much respect to those who continue to educate young guns like myself about the history of garments. I finally understand what collar roll is and why people obsess over it in oxford shirts.
Being in the Seattle area, I will check out the Brooks Brothers store downtown and their MTM, see if Blackbird gets Geller oxfords in, and see what I can find in Vancouver or Portland when I manage to make my trips out there. East Coast certainly has more shirting heritage and it doesn't seem like many/any people in my area care about the details of oxfords in the slightest.

Checking ebay post-christmas has proved quite useful for finding prospects that were discounted after people had trouble with sizing. Considering hitting up a guy who didn't manage to sell his common projects black postman boots first go round. They look damn good. Anyone own a pair/want to review?
Common Projects BBall review: I picked up a pair of the BBalls in tan leather from SSense post-christmas and I am supremely happy with the quality of the shoe. The new shoe smell of these coming out of the box...glorious. I usually wear 8.5-9 and got a size 42. While I would get a 41 the next time I purchase common projects, the 42 in the BBall is manageable thanks to the extensive lacing and hightop design of the shoe. My foot isn't sliding around unless I am trying to make it do so and these are currently my favorite shoes to wear. Gold numbering is quite subtle in person, which actually only makes these more appealing to me. Lots of compliments; I am a happy customer and I know I will be purchasing Common Projects in the future for design, materials, and construction.

The gold and black coloring on the piece look gorgeous. I think that guys fit look off because he threw it over a green t-shirt, jeans, and brown shoes. I like the idea of that over tailored looks (a la pitti uomo I guess). I'd throw that over a pale gray suit and black derbies in a heartbeat.
Man, their patterns are just gorgeous. Now you have my fiending for White Mountaineering when I know there are far more practical things I should be doing to build a wardrobe.

Outlier was the first company that I made the choice to save up and purchase a garment of theirs with my job, and each piece I have purchased from them has been easily incorporated into my wardrobe. Quickie reviews on items I own, by order of time purchased:
Outlier Climbers: Slim but not too slim cut, these pants are my favorites. If you are in between sizes, I would size down due to the 4 way stretch, but I like my pants to fit tight on my hips. Dry quickly, definitely water-resistant as advertised, and immensely comfortable.
Outlier Merino Socks: These were a somewhat informed impulse buy. I got three pairs so that they ended up $20.00 a piece, but these socks are a simple joy. Kept my feet warm, definitely resist odor, have stretch in the right places and never feel like they slip down, and Outlier's merino wool is the greatest material I have felt thus far in my life.
Outlier Merino Henley: Such a great layering piece. Mentioned somewhere in the tech thread but it fits quite slim. My small fits my torso and arms like a second skin. The merino is, again, so wonderful. Warm, odor resistant, and easily layered under a button up for colder days. Construction overall feels great, and the buttons show no sign of coming loose from the fabric at any time during its life unless I wanted them too.
Outlier Slim Dungarees: When they say slim, they aren't kidding. My pair fit tighter on me than the climbers (comparable to a levis 510 instead of a 511 if that helps). However, I have grown to love them none the less. The texture of the fabric used is so different from the climbers, but comes with the water resistance and quick drying nature of Outlier pants that people grow to love. While not offering the same range of movement, they are great casual pants that I find myself wearing more and more often.
Outlier Ultrafine Merino T-Shirt: Unf. When I get home from work I take off the tie, the button up, and put this on. Small fits me perfectly, the shirt is soft and warm, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has t-shirts in their rotation.

The new Slum Village had some good tracks though. Came out the day after Pusha T's I do believe. Worth checking out, especially for a free project.

Wanted to keep these to myself but the auction is ending and I don't currently have the funds. Have at them.
