  1. Hoy folks,

Just checking in with a note that I'm selling a much loved pair of 2012 AW Mustangs - 29x34.

Wore them well for about 12 months then went travelling and haven't worn them since.

Still a bit of life left in them, I reckon - see the Gumtree ad for details.

  2. Sorry about this...but I have another Red Wing sizing question.

I bought a pair of 9.5 Iron Rangers and they arrived today.

I was initially pretty set on getting size 9, but after faxing a tracing of my foot to Red Wing Australia, they measured me as a 9.5 and convinced me to try ordering them first.

The boots fit ok - left foot feels pretty comfortable and the arch seemed to be in a good position but my right foot (which is slightly shorter) was less comfy. They certainly don't feel tight in any way - probably a tad loose feeling if anything.

I need to lace them up pretty tight to suit my narrow feet and I'm getting a tiny bit of slippage in the heel when I walk.

I reckon they're possibly a bit too long - I have a bit under an inch (maybe 6/8ths of an inch or two cms) of room at the heel when I push my foot forward to touch the end of the toe box.

I plan on wearing these with thick socks, but also thinner ones (in an Australian summer).

I have pretty narrow feet, so I don't think width is going to be too much of an issue.

Any advice on whether to stay with the 9.5 or go down to a 9 would be much, much appreciated! Unfortunately trying pairs in a store is not an option for me.

  3. All signs point to the Iron Ranger fitting more narrow, some would suggest almost C width. Be warned!

No personal experience, read it on the fedoralounge thread when I was thinking of getting some GT's - see here http://www.thefedora...eckman-Thoughts

Thanks mate - some good stuff in that thread. I don't think width is going to be too much of an issue because I have pretty narrow feet (they were swimming in the 9.5EE 875s).

Lengthwise is more of a concern - in the same 875s, I reckon I had 1cm or so (1/3 inch) before things started to get a little cramped.

Do the Iron Rangers run slightly longer than the 875 I wonder?

Unfortunately, ordering two sizes and sending one back with free return shipping is not an option where I live.

  4. Looking to buy a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers.

Does anyone know how the Red Wing 8111 (Iron Ranger) fits in comparison to the 875?

The only thing I could try on within a 3500km radius was the 875 in a 9.5EE, which was marginally long and too wide for my skinny feet.

I'm thinking the 875 in a 9D would have been ok - I know the last is different, but do they fit more or less the same size as the Rangers?

    Thanks in advance!

  5. My pair arrived and they are absolutely stunning. Impeccable craftsmanship, and the SR3 denim is really lovely and has a nicer, softer hand than I'd expected.

Unfortunately, I appear to have measured poorly, and I'm really not sure if a soak will be enough to loosen these guys up enough to fit around my goofy bicycle-riding legs. As it is now, I can't pull them up high enough on my waist to get the top button buttoned.

    Oof.

May try soaking, may just sell. *sigh*

They'll stretch a bit - my mustangs did anyway...

Check out my fit pics on pg 66 of this thread (taken presoak) - super tight around the thigh to begin with, but they've stretched out nicely in the space of a couple of days and are now a good, comfortable fit.

I was able to button all the buttons though and I imagine Cobras would be very skinny - kudos to all those who can actually fit into them...

  6. "*Serious understatement here. Immensely amiable guy."

    ^Truth!

I'd tend to agree with Ande's cuts being fairly slim - just bought a pair of Mustangs and they were certainly very slim (particularly around the thigh) to begin with. The pics are on the previous page of this thread.

I will add that they have stretched out a fair bit after the soak (I wore them damp for a couple of hours too) and now fit really well (pretty similar to my Levi 511s) - that's after only about 3 days of wear.

Will post more fit pics in about a week's time when they've had a bit more wear.

  7. And now a question for all the people out there who know more than me:

What's the fit like? Should I have copped the Mustangs one size up? Will they stretch and fit me well (particularly in the thighs) - the front on pic makes my legs look like a funnel.

I plan on doing a warm soak and then wearing the hell out of them - so some advice would be much appreciated before I commit to the soak.

For the record, I'm 5'11 and 67kg (148 pounds) with a reasonably slim build - I run quite a bit, hence the large thighs.

    Thanks all.

  8. And perhaps most importantly, the fit:

    • I sent Ande the following measurements from a pair of Levis 511 (31x32) - a year and a half old or so haven't been washed in a while, so they fit pretty nicely (with just a bit of extra room in the waist perhaps):
      • Waist: 31
      • Front rise: 9.25
      • Back rise: 13.5
      • Top Thigh: 10.5
      • Mid Thigh: 8.5
      • Knee: 7
      • Leg Opening: 7
      • Inseam: 30.5

    The 511s:

    • Based on that, I copped Mustangs in a size 29x34 (Ande helped with the decision). I wanted a bit extra in the inseam and a tad less in the waist.
    • Pre-soak fitting notes:
      • Rise: Noticeably higher than the 511s. Feels a little foreign to me, but I've been wearing lower rise jeans for a while now. Looks at bit strange to me as well, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
      • Thighs:These are pretty tight at the moment, particularly around the thighs - noticeably tighter than the 511s. Hoping for a bit of stretch after the initial soak as I wear them in.
      • Waist:No problems there - buttoned up pretty easily (again on the tight side, though) I think they'll stretch to a pretty comfortable size.
      • Lower leg: Digging the cut through the lower leg - fairly slim, without being super skinny.

Well there you have it - a Whall of photos for anyone interested in getting some.

  9. My Ande Whall Mustangs (29x34) arrived today, so I thought I'd give you all a good look at Ande Whall's package...

    IMG_0161.jpg

Sorry about the quality of the photos - all taken on iPhone4S.

This is my first ever pair of raws and I really appreciated being able to check out fit pics, sizing advice, etc. on the forums when I was hunting around for a pair, so I thought I'd return the favour for anyone interested.

    General impressions first up:

    • Ande Whall = Boss! Great guy to deal with - super speedy replies to emails and very helpful and informative when it comes to sizing. I sent him a list of sizings on my favourite pair of jeans and he recommended a 29 in the Mustangs (I was leaning toward a 30).
    • I ordered during a quiet patch for Ande - placed the order on Sat the 17th, Ande completed and shipped the jeans on Tues the 20th and they arrived in Western Australia on Fri 23rd. Not a bad turnaround for a pair of made-to-order pants...

    And impressions of the jeans:

    • Look to be really well constructed - great details which can be seen on Ande's website.
    • It's my first try at raw denim and dang! - they feel just about like cardboard when they come out of the packaging. Not sure if this is a sign of quality raw, but there ya go.
    • Colour is a really nice dark indigo - the colour is really similar to the pics on Ande's site, so that's a good reference.
    • Nice thick leather patch
    • Loving the gold/orange stitching - again colour on the site is spot on.

    Hoping these photos work:

Definitely hand-made. Adds so much character.
