  1. As those lasts show, the SJ looks a bit "stubbier" in the toe box, which I like. But my experience trying both on is that the SJ ends up feeling tighter than the SD, which surprised me.  (It also messed up my sizing because Baker's sent me an SJ in 9.5E as a try-on and it felt tight, but when I ordered 9.5EE in SD it ended up being huge... Though to be fair, it seems that White's sizing can be a bit upredictable.)

rdt looks superb! did the resole make the whole shoes a whole lotta lighter @tod?

Yes, definitely lighter.  Feels a bit weird, cause I am used to heavier boots, but it's nice for a change.  I see now what people mean by "sneaker boots."

  3. Just got my Rolling Dub Trios back from a resole by Brian the Bootmaker. I admit that the original neocork sole with the leather toe tap was very cool, but it just never quite worked for me -- the triple midsole with the added heel was too high, and the whole thing was a bit slippery. So, decided to get a Vibram wedge sole put on.  (Or as my daughter says, a "squishy" sole.)  Pretty pleased with how it turned out, and it's VERY comfy:

I seem to be blessed with a amazing good luck at finding second hand pairs of White's.

Just received these. Semidress, standard brown dress leather, standard heel heigh, vibram 700 sole. Superb boot alltogether, with a lovely patina. Just the right amount of upswing toe I like.

Can i ask how your White's compare size wise with other boots you own..? Thanks!

Super old Indy boots think the color is brick. Probably had them about 8 years and with some minor stitching repairs still going strong

Did you have the speedhooks replaced with those contrasting ones, or was it a special build to begin with..?  (Look great btw.)

    Hot damn.

This pair of horsehide shoes arrived a week or so ago, after a 7 month wait, from Nick's.

I took some non-pants-pulling photos just for you guys:

Switched laces a couple of times...didn't like the stock black nylon laces.

Settling for flat waxed dark brown for now (top photo).

I trimmed the edge of the 'welt' a little and reburnished it, but other than that the shoes are great!

    Review in the works.

Found a Whites authorized dealer here in Pittsboro that both stocks and does sizing measurements.  Made the trek out there today and got some pics.  Boot heaven, pretty much has everything from Danner to Filson.

What's next door to the store is a barbeque restaurant

Anyway, I tried on the Smokejumpers here  and they actually fitted ok.  I've worn some torture chambers on feet like my Olympic weightlifting shoes with a wood block and no flex so these sj's felt right at home lol.

Anyway, I got my measurements there and ready to send them off to Baker!

The only thing better than a day spent trying on White's Boots, is a day spent trying on White's Boots followed by a plate of Allen and Son chopped pork...  A dream day...

    Toys McCoy Ironclad Workboots

    New vs 6-months after

Really nice tea-core leather, excited to see the inner leather to create some nice patina.

Wow, very nice indeed!  The rivets are cool, and the overall shape just classic.

Just curious how these fit compared to other boots you've worn..?  Also, can you tell me what the total heel height measures as?  Thanks!

ordered a new pair of Alden boots. Plain toe, Barrie last, brown calfskin with crepe sole. My favorite detail might be the brass loops. I also love seeing the special order tag whenever I order my Alden's!

these boots are super comfortable right out of the box. The crepe sole might be the most comfortable sole to walk on. Here is a current lineup of my Alden Army

    left to right:

New boots, snuff suede plains toe, Indy, suede long wings, black cordovan cap toe Aberdeen last

I agree, I think Alden's contrasting eyelets really add a nice touch. As far as the speedhook being out of alignment, I had one like that, but when lace up it sort of "rotated" and straightened up.  It was no problem at all. Anyway, nice boots!

Rolling Dubs?  Have you thought about a false leather tongue?

    What boots are those?

Yes, Rolling Dub Trio's "Coupen Boots." though they are really more of a work shoe than a boot.  Hmm, I haven't thought about false tongues with these. I have used some with my White's, but mostly just go as is.

  11. My main complaint about my Rolling Dub Trios was that the heel was just too darn high, with the triple midsole and heel it was 1.5". And I always felt like I was teetering on them, and my heel was striking hard with every stride.  So I took them in to a local cobbler to put a lower heel cap on.  He was surprised they used a full heel, and he put on for me a Vibram half heel. They are now 1.25", and feel SO much better!  I am very glad I did it.  I really love the look of the classic Cat's Paw and will miss it. And the new Vibram at first looks a bit diminutive by comparison, but I am already getting used to it. Most of all, it works so much better for me and now I will wear them without hesitation.

  12. With regard to block or curved heels, and lowered or high heels, it is clearly to each his own.  I am very much a fan of both block and lowered heels, on White's and Vibergs.  The higher heels make me feel like I am walking on stilts, and that I am constantly banging my heel hard every time I take a step.  The lowered helps with both feelings.  A curved heel would help with the latter, but as my wife and daughter both said independently when I had a pair of White's with curved heels to try on:  "are those ladies' boots?"  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

  13. cool. thanks for the info. i'd like to at least get another 6 months out of the heel. interested in maybe trying a lowered block heel, but white's seem to make a really big 'shelf' on those block heels. would want to see if they can sand it a little closer because it looks like it would feel so weird when walking, especially coming from the curved heel.

White's has refused to sand it down in the past, but if you order through Baker's boots they will sand it down for you before sending it out.
