  1. Was in the portland/woodland area for four days for a wedding for New Years. I really enjoyed my time there. The woodsy, rainy, overcast environment is really my jam.

A little visit to my uncle somewhere in Vancouver, WA. Nice and cozy neighborhood.

Downtown Portland area. I wasn't able to really taste the local foodsy stuff except for Kim Jong Smokehouse (pork bun; twas good if a little overpriced) and some other place down in N Williams Ave which was terrible. Wish I was able to get something from the many food carts I saw.

Wedding Day. Suit from Proper Cloth. Like it for the most part. Design needs some work (e.g. less of a high gorge and lower button stance) so hoping they give us those those options later on. I probably could have also make the suit a little longer and let the waist out just a bit but again I like it enough.

  2. I don't think anyone here was saying/implying you were lying @cameosis. It just sounded a little off compared to other tanneries (besides Horween and Shinki Clayton and Comipel was near the same price range. Don't know what Rocinante, Argentina tannery, sell theirs.)

That being said, with more research the 40 euros is pretty close to what Rocado, an Italian tannery, is offering theirs directly on their site ($66/sq ft) which if you were on good relations or bought a significant portion would probably bring it down further.

as i said, i worked with leather for six years, and when i was at the tannery, both i and the tanner talked about horse leather and cordovan, so no calf leather involved there. doesn't get any clearer than this.

Well, I mean I curious as to how you could be able to procure cordovan at 40 euros then since other leather workers have tried and the quotes they're given for the various grades is much much higher. Almost seems too good to be true. Likewise, what was the tannery? There's apparently few who can tan cordovan and the process for it is supposedly more laborious.

cordovan (as a final point), is a pure luxury item, because it’s made out of workhorses ass cheeks, so there’s not much to begin with. all horse leather can be (and is) used for shoe production, it’s wonderful leather with a distinct surface and, later, patina. do you know how much a square meter costs at a tannery?

€ 40 (in words: forty euros), that’s less than cow leather (depending on the tanning) … i know, because i asked (specifically regarding cordovan), i could’ve literally taken a car load with me … but then again, i don’t wear shoes that big.

You sure it was shell cordovan and not "cordovan" leather i.e. the color or calf leather that mimics the shine of cordovan. I ask only because Horween, Shinki, and Clayton supposedly sells theirs at $100+ sq ft. Likewise, there was also a little mix up that Mike from Epaulet had with his Portuguese supplier (wasn't shell cordovan but calf leather called cordovan).

A pair of distressed roughout belts. Made from roughout oak bark tanned leather (J&FJ Baker) and finished with a hand burnished stonewashed solid brass fasteners.

Was literally just looking (and just bought) for some type of O belt and this looks really good. Like the use of the belt keeper as well.

I'm assuming you made these belts?

  6. New collection trickling in.

Imperial jeans seem to have the usual big waist and seeing pics of the Swingstar online is making me take a second guess on it. Fit on the arms looks like it bellows out pretty big and the print on the front/arms looks weird to me. Might be how big it looks on the jacket. Probably have to handle it in person to see for myself.

    Anyone handle the slinger jacket?

  7. @Broark  and anyone else who got both the contest and saddle pants.

How similar or different are the fits on these? Thigh more roomy in the contest vs saddle?

Thinking of getting a size 35 for the saddle since it's supposed to stretch back out to tag size and I'm more of true size 34 these days. So unsure if I should bite the bullet and get the 35 or if a 36 is what I need then I missed out.

  8. Yup, there's usually at least one item I get from each season (Swingstar looking real good).  I also like how they keep stuff from previous seasons in rotation so even if you missed out or only just got into Stevenson you always have a chance to get an item albeit in a different fabric maybe. Speaking of which I really hope they do a moleskin deputy again. The slight sheen of moleskin, from pics anyway, looks like a perfect match in this model.

All that said, I'm not sure how to feel about the Stevenson text is emblazoned in some of the shirts/outerwear.

Saw the imperial jeans last F/W but it seems no one picked it up? I'm mighty mighty intrigued since it says "regular" waist and I'm curious to see how it fits in comparison to other models.
