The most likely explanation for the initial decision to produce in vancouver is that veilance started as a highly experimental brand with a small volume, possibly under close observation by the higher-ups. As such, extremely short development cycles and "in our own backyard" processes can be prioritised over scalability.

Now that veilance is growing into a tremendous commercial success and confidence in their process is high, scalability becomes a greater concern and this is where you can decide to move (some or all) production to your bigger facilities. Also, moving production frees up vancouver resources which might be put to use to speed up or expand their developmental cycle, further benefiting the quality of the product.

I like the 'made in canada' tag as much as anyone, but rationally it might not always be the best way of doing things.  

From a quality standpoint it doesn't matter. QC requirements won't change.

From a brand positioning standpoint, "made in vancouver" fits a boutique image and comes with a definite sense of romance. However, AV has slowly been moving away from the uber-niche boutique image and towards a more accessible brand position. Essentially trading exclusivity for scale. This is apparent both in the streamlining of the seasonal collections and in their retail presence. 

This may take some getting used to for longtime enthousiasts, but on the other hand they're showing some of the strongest designs yet and that's what counts.

i think i know what you mean re:field pockets on a pant. positioned a la the apparat/align pocket position but flapped like the jkt/shirt. 

wool bomber might be the thing lars is wearing in the interview pics. has a riri zipper unlike the cardigans. this also reminds me he appeared to be wearing heathered grey full-wool pants in the older intelligence interview.

edit: fifth, sixth and seventh item from the left in that instagram pic appear to be cardigan-collared jackets with a noticable texture. 

also: the new 3-in-1  in the same pic was snuck into some of the intelligence interview pics and is supposed to retail for $1950.

awesome. i've long considered doing something similar to a pair of arc'teryx stowe pants. did your tailor run into any issues/considerations?

i think i caught a shot of the new haedn somewhere on instagram - looked sick. Is the wool cardigan lars is wearing in the concept store interview from the same season? field pant sounds like a reincarnation of the spec pant

voronoi will still have option for 32" or 35" inseams, rest of pants will likely be 32.5" standard as usual

also pants will be made in china starting fw17…

edit: but only the pants, everything else is in canada

i know full well the pants will be every bit as good made in china, and still some part of me feels like it makes the line just a little bit less exclusive.

this is very promising looking stuff. nice subdued style, interesting patterning and construction looks tight.

saw a guy the other day in olive slipons with a white sole and qasa-style elastic webbing. ring a bell? it wasn't the adidas superstar slip on but had a very similar webbing design.

the new twill voronois are rather tight in the thigh and ass. the nylon ones have stretch and are a bit more forgiving.

if the p10's fit anything like the nike acg cargo's then the p10 is significantly roomier than the voronoi.

interesting design. i  see some utility for bicycle use, especially if they added reflective velcro patches

patagonia is truly an amazing company when it comes to social and environmental responsibility. 

cargos, field shirt... another "hey, lets drop a grand on veilance" season.

it was briefly discussed a few pages back. to me it's absolutely peak veilance. i totally get the idea of making the core veilance look of the field jacket applicable to more settings.

i hope the fabric has a sturdy, overshirt-like drape.

update on the cargo's: washed the black ones. No shrinkage or fading, but they're still shiny. kinda bummed with that.

also, wore them in daylight for the first time and just noticed the new ones still aren't black but super super dark blue. the fuck, nike?
