You don't need to be reminded of the title of this thread Martin, unless our fears of early dementia have started to set in - tbh it was more of a tongue in cheek dig at @Dry for keep posting his vintage Levis in the wrong thread

Currently wearing these LVC 551ZXXs on a daily basis. I'm unaware of a vintage Levis thread.

Please remind me, what’s the title of this thread? :P

Need to be sure repros are accurate - I don't think they had little dots in 1976, ha, ha!

  3. Just discovered the tiny dots on one of my pairs of vintage Big E 502-0117s. The second pic is of the button on the other pair with no dots.

Anybody going to the Son of a Stag 30th Anniversary Party?

I’m after a 36 waist 1955. Does anyone know any other online sites that stock LVC? I’ve tried:

    Bears

    Levis

    Cultizm

    American Classics

    Americarag

    thanks

    What length?

  5. These pre-serated patch, pre care label 502-0117s which I got earlier this year appear to have fabric defects, which did not appear until after they were brushed. Does anybody know what has caused this? The about 50 year old jeans number 16 on the button with Scovill zip seem sound despite the flaws.

the bartacks are the same as one the belt-loops, so they must be an original quirk.

Taking about quirks, there was this raffle ticket in the watch pocket. Pontins was an old British holiday camp company, you would stay in chalets, listen to cover bands, and eat fish and chips under shelter from the incessant rain... hope this wasn't a winning ticket the dude lost...

    ticket.jpg

    I think they are from 1971 @Paul T

The 1971 raffle ticket confirms this.

I studied the rear pockets of 502-0117s between 1966 and 1971 in shop windows and being worn and the vertical stitching was wide and splayed except for a short period in 1971 when it was narrow and parallel.

I bought a pair in September 1969 #16 with a Scovill zip which had the wide and splayed stitching. I can't remember if they had v stitch.

I bought another pair in June 1971 with the narrow parallel stitching like yours but I don't remember the colour of the bar tack or if they had a v stitch. They had a Talon zip and were also Big E. I never saw others like them except on somebody I knew who had 2 pairs bought at the same time.

By about 1972 502-0117s had become unavailable in England and were replaced by 505 0217s. However I bought 2 pairs of Made in France 502-0217s between about 1973 to 1975 which I still have.

Merry Christmas y’all. A little evo update on these excellent San Antonio ‘55s. Coming up on a year and half’s worth of wear, washed plenty of times. Really gotten into that vintage fade territory now.

How can you tell they are from San Antonio? What is the button number?

  8. In the 1969 version of The Italian Job the coach driver, Harry Baird is wearing a Type 2 jacket with 501s (or 502-0117s, the zippered version which were popular in England at the time). He is in this combo waiting by the coach and then getting in as the Minis emerge from the sewer. The only pics I can find are of the jacket, clearly washed out a bit.   http://myselfpreservationsociety.blogspot.com/2012/03/harry-baird-big-william.html?m=1

I did post some photos here years ago Dry but they seem to have been lost. Here are some I posted on Denimbro (and have just stolen back so are unfortunately low res) in early 2020 and they still remain unworn but are rising to the top of the pile. They’re over 30 years old now!

@Maynard Friedman Do you still have a any pics of the 503BSXXs please? I am interested to see how they fade - my impression is that that they are low contrast and don't fade or whisker much, becoming grey overall with no electric blue at wear points to start off with, just like as if the colour has bled (presumably because of the natural indigo). Unless the pairs in the other pics I have seen have not been treated properly, in which case is a secret to keeping the natural indigo colour rich and crisp with high contrast fades later on?

The first pic is what I would call high contrast (in Levis), faded in a way that I like and the second pic (which are 503BXX but not 503BSXX) are fading in a way that I don't like. Having said that the 3rd pic is also of the same pair of 503BXXs and shows a nice rich colour.

Paul, I have a couple of pairs of Levi’s Japan if you’re interested in any further pictures - 503B and 503BSXX (natural indigo), both from the early 90s. I won’t be offended if you’re not! :laugh2:

awesome haul  @Dry .... can you do picture of inside tag ?

No inside tags in those days @vIGGiou riou. There is a stamp on 1 of the pockets.

@Maynard Friedman£1,300. Would have liked a 36 inch leg but they don't come up often like this. The inside bit of 1 of the rivets is missing but the outside bit is there. Thinking about  taking a silver inside bit from another pair and gluing it on.

  14. I got my 1975s in February or March 2018. They are 16 on the button. Curiously they have selvedge on the coin pocket. There is a lot of twist. There are characteristic flaws in the denim - see right rear pocket. Sadly I can no longer access EBay purchase history from 2018 so have no pics deadstock with flashers etc (I could dig out the flashers if anyone is interested).
