Of potential interest to those (like me) who were less than impressed by the 4 season series of jeans and jackets, SDA has published (on some store blogs and IG accounts) pics of a lim item ed with all 4 fabrics on a single pair:

    And on IG:

I saw this and thought it was super cool, but somebody said they're going to be an in-store exclusive. I suppose my wallet is happy.

  2. See I always thought the color would look really nice once the fabric has lost a ton of color, so I sort of saw that as thinking ahead on the part of the designers. The rivets are a bit dark though, I prefer regular unfinished copper.

  3. during college I made a bunch of friends on a study abroad course from their home university outside of shanghai, and in 2017 I took a trip to visit them- these R425XX were the logical souvenir courtesy of taobao. I find the cut a little low but otherwise I've been really pleased with these. the fabric's got a lot of character that comes out more and more with every wash, and in terms of construction they're among the best I own. it seems like these are a little easier to acquire online than when I was last watching the denim scene closely, so hopefully more people will be able to get their hands on these.

  4. The G-003s did indeed work out! They're a little on the loose side but it's not too bad, if I had gotten the 31 I probably would be worried about them shrinking too much come wash time. The taper on this cut is no joke though- I'm lucky I'm shaped like I am or this wouldn't work at all. The warp has some serious slubs in it, feels really nice. I'm super excited to have some double indigo too.

  5. Yeah I think you're right, the more I look at the measurements the more I'm thinking the 32 would be better. Still, if anybody with experience with the G3 fabrics can offer any input I'd like to hear it.

  6. Long time no see, sufu!

I recently became aware of the SDA 40th Anniversary stuff with the G3 loom fabrics... of particular interest to me is the G-004, the double indigo model. I assume it would behave similarly to the other G3 variants they're producing in terms of shrinkage and stretch, so my question is essentially how to size this fabric. I'm thinking a raw 31 would be best for the waist to settle around 32"?

Looks like Christian and co has some new midweight Greaser and Charles Atlas jeans available for pre order! Nice to see they worked out something with Nihon Menpu, and also interesting to see some fabric coming from China. Never heard of Xinjiang. @Left Field Maybe Christian or Jonny have some more info on the characteristics?

From first glance without a size chart, they look to have less taper than normal, but maybe that's from the angle the photos were taken?

Xinxiang to my knowledge is a region rather than a mill. I'm not too familiar with any specific mills out of China but the Xinxiang cotton has a really great reputation and is known for being of a comparable staple to Zimbabwe, or longer. Red Cloud uses cotton from this region but I've never actually handled that. I'm super excited to find out more about these fabrics, I'm pretty sure this is the first time an American or Japanese brand has used Xinxiang cotton fabrics, at least to my knowledge. I haven't kept up with the industry happenings over the past few years.

  8. Fit looks really good on those 0901. I haven't seen many people wearing that cut but I'm impressed.

Thanks! I was a little in the dark about what to expect fit-wise for that reason, but I'm really happy with the way it panned out.

  9. What size did you get? They look pretty trim. I have some 0901s on the way as well! They'll probably sit on the back-burner for awhile until I put some wear into other pairs.

Size 32, so right on true to size. I've got large thighs though which is why I went with the 0901.

  10. The 0901s arrived last week, and I finally got around to taking some pictures once they'd settled a bit. Maybe an unpopular choice but I went with the pink battle stripes and I'm happy with the way it came out. I also ended up getting one-wash.

Seems like there's some loose fabric in the top block but it doesn't bother me, and as a whole these are some comfy jeans. This is the first pair of unsanforized jeans I've had, and side by side the differences are apparent. I've always loved the color this fabric gets with age so I'm eager to see where they go from here.

  11. First wash on my FHxNFxTY Flathead 3xxx 14.5 denim

3 months of solid wear on them. I'm not the hardest on my jeans so theyre not super drastic.

Don't know about everyone else but this stage of the fading is one of my favorites, I love the bright blues and the little bits of white that start to poke through.

  12. Personally i think the battlestripes are overkill. I couldn't pull them off, the pink inseam is borderline for me as well.

See, I was never put off by the inseam, and I like the stripes. I think the pink color they use is a really great color, and the stripes are such a part of Momotaro to me, like Evisu's gulls.

  13. I've some 0201s that have been going for about six months, and another raw pair plus some raw 0901s waiting in the wings until I can get them hemmed (there's this one guy in Sydney I trust for chain stitching needs!)...

My experience is that Momotaro vintage denim shrinks to pretty much the tagged dimensions, with some parts like the waistband shrinking a bit then stretching back out — I'm a 33, and the waistband on my raw pairs measures 16.5 - 17" laid flat (slightly different between the two pairs)... as does the waist on my 6-month-old pair that's received a hot soak and two warm washes.  Raw pairs measure 38" in the leg and will shrink to 36" (I hem them to about 34).

All three pairs feel the same around the waist (bit tighter on the 0901s because the higher rise means the waist sits further up), but the raw pairs are baggier around the thighs.  They're a genuine shrink-to-fit in that they will shrink a fair bit and then stretch back out where they need to, but not a whole lot further.  That is, they don't become saggy over time, needing a wash to tighten them back up — there's a little bit of give, but nowhere near as much as I get with Sugarcanes (for example)

So true to size on the shrunk measurements seems to be the way to go assuming I can get all the shrinkage out. Thanks for the help guys!

I'm planning on buying through Denimio and getting the jeans painted as well, how does everyone feel about pink battle stripes?

  14. Like most jeans, the waist will stretch back to raw if you need it to. My 0901s have had a soak and a 40C wash and have been worn around the house for a few days (still awaiting a hem). The waist is around 33" and the thigh about 13". I doubt they'll stretch any further as they don't need to but they probably could. They are very impressive jeans in terms of denim, cut and details.

This would be my first pair of unsanforized, so I'm not too familiar with the dynamics of it and I know the degree of stretch varies between all fabrics. If I get the post-soak measurement I'm looking for am I going to find myself pulling my pants up all the time? Should I be sizing based on the washed measurements or the raw measurements?

  15. Ok, question for those of you with experience with the 0901 and the 0201. I'm thinking of getting one of those two with the intent of having a pair of jeans that once settled would have a waist measurement of close to 32" and a thigh measurement of at least 12.5" horizontally. The post-soak/wash measurements of a 32 in both cuts seems to fit the bill, but how much will this fabric stretch back out?

  16. Wait, what's all this about the new "Charles Atlas" fit jeans? How did I miss this news till now? ;-)

I'm interested in pre-ordering but am wondering about the measurements (don't see them on the website). Will the upper block measurements be the same as the "standard" greaser or more like the new Black/Blue collab. greaser? Relative merits of the collect mills 14 oz. and the cone 13 oz.?

I'm hoping this new fit is more along the lines of a slightly looser overall version of the OG greaser.

  17. altoclefchris, congrats on the Fade Friday!  I love your IG subtext..."The 23 oz Dude"  :D

Sorry for being away.  I wanted to update my sweatshirt as it has evolved quite a bit more.  Man I love this thing.  It's one of my favorite garments for sure.  I may need to acquire some more terry because there is a lot of wear and damage emerging.

I guess you could say I liked your comment, much appreciated!

And it's worth noting I got a zip hoodie with the code from FF, this material is great! I didn't expect it to lose indigo so fast. Now if only it were colder...
