Great! Now tell us you're going to get a second pair to alternate daily, or at least stick some cedar shoe trees in your pair, right? ;)

Actually planning to get the non Gore-Tex version for summer's dry days, so, kinda/sorta.

And thank you for reminding me that I need to buy shoe trees.

What the chef said about sitting at the bar fully-dressed and whatnot.  Been layering synthetics, merino, & Gore-Tex or eVent for a couple of winters, and it easily copes with 40°F indoor/outdoor temperature changes without unzipping and ungaitering.

  3. The Campsuds treatment seems to have killed the pong in my Acruxes.  Not what I'd use on a Gore-Tex shell, but these shoes are mostly solid plastic where it matters.  They took about 36 hours to dry, indoors over a baseboard heater.

I've been living in these since the snow started flying. Arcteryx Acrux SL GORE-Tex. Very good adhesion on everything but wet polished marble.

Olright.  Becaise someone had asked, backchannel... After roughly four months of daily wear, these have finally developed that uniquely sharp, shrill GORE-Tex shoe smell.  Like if Chanel distilled chickadee urine for bottling as scent.

Just finished soaking them in Campsuds for a half-hour, followed by 5 or 6 hot freshwater rinses.  Hanging to drip dry.  Will report olfactory results.

  5. ^ They have removable insoles. Have been popping them out at night, and so far, to my amazement, no stink.

Have been wiping the salt off them with paper towels and plain water. A coat of Simoniz, and they'd look new.  (They're mostly plastic.)

  6. Hard to say, because I have circulation issues in my feet due to old frostbite issues. My feet are always sweaty blocks of ice under 20°C. But in these things, marching around in heavy rain and through light snowfall and slush puddles, my socks haven't gotten wetter than usual. At all. That's my yardstick.

  7. Anyone willing to chime in on their most *effective* winter outfits incorporating ACR? I'm curious to hear how you stay warm in the winter and as to how cold it actually is in your location.

J32 or J47 over Icebreaker merino zipfront hoodie + Icebreaker merino longsleeve shirt + Patagonia longsleeve medium-weight thermal undershirt, with a cashmere neck-gaiter, is my default pit-of-winter upper body dress code. Not quite enough for standing at a bus stop in -10°C in a high wind for half a hour, but it's the tits for pounding winter sidewalks all day, down to about -20°C. Best part is, when I pop into a store or the subway, I don't turn into a ball of sweat.

Subsitute Nike Tech Fleece zipfront hoodie (definite Errolson DNA or riffage in the hood & pocket design) over just the undershirt, with a polar fleece neck-gaiter, when it's at or above freezing point.

  8. Do the topics of meetups ever come up here? I did a search and saw someone mention an acr meetup in SF. Anyone here live in Seattle?

    "Mommy, look! Ninjas!!"

"Now, don't stare, Fabian OH MY GOD!! They've got purses *under* their coats!!"

  9. Anyone reckon they'll bring back their women's line? I've got friends that are definitely interested.

I'd be very surprised if we saw it resurface entirely under the house's flag. Strong gut feeling that doing womenswear properly requires disproportionate time & effort for the potential return, for a company of Acronym's size & present market-focus.

I'd be far less surprised to see a one-time collab with an established women's haberdashery, fringe or cutting-edge mainstream. (Mother of London, in my dreams.)

  10. Haven's CS isn't great. I wouldn't believe what they tell you.

I've had either fabulous or disappointing experiences with them, mailorder and bricks-and-mortar. The Edmonton staff seemed to lack imagination. The Toronto crowd were the kind that run into the street and hail you a cab as you leave.

  11. Any idea as to what the H4-AK might be?

And what the difference is between the NG5-AK and NG5-AM that are both "previewed" in the shop at Hanon?

The H4-AK is a hat. (Woolly 'at. Watch cap. Tuque.)

The NG5s are neck-gaiters of similar style but very different cloths. I already have four Acronym neck-gaiters in cashmere and polyester fleece, but was intrigued enough by this season's new cloth options that I had to get one of each, just to see.

  12. ng5-ak

    ($200)

Got two of those coming, one for me, one as a gift for a friend who survived cancer surgery. Figure she deserves a warm, cozy winter in this hellish grey slushpit where we live. Llaaaaamaaaa.

  13. Patch holes up with gear aid tape, post-apocalypse style.

A friend did exactly this to a pair of green P9-Es. Think she's gonna wear 'em 'till they fall off or catch fire.

  14. I'm largely unware, and this is a serious question: Does anyone else make trousers similar in cut, silhouette, mobility, and pocket-usefulness to Acronym's P9? Ideally, not in cotton.

Pegged cuts, dropped seats, and bulbous cargo pocket designs need not apply.

  15. Do you have a preference for one over the other?

Situationally, yes.  For when I just need to throw on a shell to go buy milk and lottery tickets, the J32.  For when I'm traveling, or walking around a city all day, living out of the coat, the J47.  Because of the relief zip, and the nice array of (very unusual) pockets.

J32 for raids, J47 for patrols.

  16. For reference, I can wear the Large J25 with a light sweater or normal weight sweatshirt and it's still good. If the M in the J47 (for example) is bigger than the L in the J25 already (which is looks like based on the measurements), then it seems like some reasonable layering should be possible even with the M.

I have both J32 & J47 in Large.  Both coats are very similar in pit-to-pit and sleeve dimensions, etc, but I find they're cut, and fit, a bit different.  Let me know if you need any measurements laid flat to compare to your J25.
