Free repairs by iron heart :ph34r2:

My wife is quite skilled with a sewing machine and she takes care of the stuff I care about (crotch, anything above the thighs). I don't really mind cuffs or knees tearing and particularly don't like knee patches, so I just leave those!

  2. Long time no post. I've pretty much only been on the IH forum for the past few years because I honestly just can't bring myself to find much interest in other denim brands anymore after gradually replacing my wardrobe with IH over the past 5 years or so. Here's a pic dump of my IH-555 18 oz. First 2 are recent (3 years worth of wear), other 4 are about 7 months ago (2.75 years worth of wear). I've transitioned to mostly wearing IH-555-XHS-IB since earlier this year, so these 18 oz haven't gotten a ton of wear in those recent months. I can't believe how much life these have given me. I wear my jeans pretty hard, and I've never had another pair of non-IH jeans go beyond 25 months of wear. All but one of my non-IH have been wrecked in 17 months or less, and I'd need another ~6 months on these 18 oz 555 to get them to the point of where that 25 month pair was at (the Samurai 710 19 oz that I won the sub-21 oz HWDC2 with years back). Really can't say enough good things about IH. The durability is vastly superior to other jeans I've had.

  3. Been enjoying the "One Star" and black horsehide Type III from IH. Picked up the One Star late last year and the Type III just recently. Leather is pretty insane on each, though the horsehide on the type iii needs more break-in than the cowhide on the one star did.

  4. Updates. These 18oz 555s have been super stubborn, but they are giving more in the last month or two. Will be interested to see how the second year goes for them. Haven't gotten around to washing yet, though they did have an initial presoak.

I know I’m bringing up an old post but I swear I’m not sure I could contain myself from attempting to rob you for that jacket if I saw you out. That’s on a whole different level. Just looked it up. Guess it’s time to start saving. Amazing!

Hahahaha. It's 10% off today at IronHeart.co.uk (and they'll probably do everything on sale on Christmas, if it's like last year)!

I saw you just changed your jeans for the contest, which makes this like the 5th wear or something? Damn... you’re going to have no indigo left by the end of the competition. :P

  7. Yesterday, sure, but the only differences today are an 11 oz tee instead of a 7.5 oz tee, and natty cxl Aldens instead of tobacco calf Aldens.

Ebbets hat, Iron Heart tee, Iron Heart One Star leather, Iron Heart 555 18 oz, Alden plain toe, SDA natural belt not shown. If I could only keep one outfit from my closet, this would be it.

  8. Contest jeans hit the desert (with IH double indigo duck jacket, IH kanreki shirt, IH loopwheel tee, Danner Mountain Light 2, which seem almost indestructible at this point, and the dog). Starting to get some nice blue popping through, but the jacket is going to fade way faster despite more minimal wear. I'm not a big fan of how the jeans stack with hiking boots that they can't fit over, but whatever.

  9. Contest day 1 with IH-555-02 18 oz, size 30. I've given them ~15 wears so far (a little over half of the days since receiving in early October). Today, they're paired with IH 526J-DD type III, IHSH1-193 flannel, IHT-1721 tee, Alden Natural Chromexcel Tanker Boots, my favorite Ebbets Field hat, and a cat to match the hat. :)

  10. Onis went on a super fun adventure 2 days ago.

Mello Yello hat (hah) / Mountain Hardwear / Oni / Danner Boots / Recommended multiday hike pushed into a 5.75 hour outing in Haleakala Crater in Maui:

Same deal with Canada Goose shell (most functional shell I've ever had and got it at a steal for a little over $200) and Patagonia down "sweater". Weather was nuts and I was cycling between no jacket and layers of these 2 on a regular basis:

Overly friendly nene. A couple miles from the last photo, the landscape is totally different:

The same nene really wants my wife's lunch. On the other side of the hill on the left was total desert. I've never been to another location where the scenery, plant life, and weather could change so rapidly. Also of note is that the only signs of human touch inside the crater, aside from the trails and a few gates, are three small cabins each outfitted with a picnic table.

After briefly seeing grass, we now appear to be on the moon. This picture still gives me chills. It's impossible to understate how insane, rugged, and beautiful, all wrapped up together, this place was.

Bonus boots after the previous day's 5.5 hour hike through incredibly muddy rainforest and an old abandoned arboretum. These guys took a beating with 11+ hours of hiking in 2 days, but they've seen worse:

  11. Recently acquired some Alden Color 4 shell cordovan wingtip boots. They were used a little bit, but they were well taken care of, and I'll take what I can get with color 4. The color fluctuates a lot with lighting and background, which is pretty cool. Took a few photos to share, along with photos of my current shell cordovan set (whiskey shoes, color 2 wallet, color 4 boots, 2 x color 8 boots, black shoes). IRL, the color 4s are really almost right down the center of red and brown in average lighting. This is a really beautiful color and I'm stoked that my wife didn't kill me when I told her I wanted to buy amother pair of boots. :)

  12. Up for sale is a pair of Pure Blue Japan XX-18oz-015 Cigarette Slim jeans in size 30. I bought these raw from Blue in Green for $335 and wore them 4 times, only to work, nothing active. I have not yet soaked them yet. Blue in Green hemmed them to 35" inseam for me (raw), which should end up being 33" or slightly longer when soaked/washed. They have stretched very slightly with a few wears, but not much. Tiny bit of blue poking through, mostly just on the edge of the pockets, shown in a close up. Mostly, there's just a slight bit of creasing, which will obviously come out with your pre-soak. After a soak, these will be pretty much new for you to wear in. Current measurements are as follows:

    Waist: About 33.5 - 33.75" (Was 33" new, so stretched .5-.75")

Inseam: 35" (Hasn't changed after BiG hem)

    Upper Thigh: 11.25" (Hasn't changed)

    Leg Opening: 7.5" (Hasn't changed)

After a soak, I would expect them to fit roughly as follows:

    Waist: About 31-31.5"

    Inseam: About 33-33.25"

    Upper Thigh: 11"

    Leg Opening: 7.25"

Looking for $175 shipped in the US. Thanks!

  13. I haven't really had any heavy use in these. The hem folds tore through under pretty inactive daily wear after a few months. I took my Samurai 710s skiing strenuously over 100 times, hiking strenuously (at least several thousand feet of elevation gain per hike) dozens of times, and up and down every step of Mt Kilimanjaro, and they weren't this ruined until 18-20 months. I've done very little that was actually active in these Oni jeans and they're still pretty ruined. They don't just not hold up to heavy use; they really don't hold up to any use.

  14. You've beat the crap out of those, and maybe it's just me... But the denim doesn't look that great? There's not really any variation in it at all, it just all turned white.

Yeah, agreed. They're kind of just plain. Haha.

  15. Thanks. I really like the fit of them, but there's definitely a trade-off; the slubby, uneven secret denim is a lot less durable. I'd figured it would be a little less durable than most, but it's really not even close. My last pair (Samurai 710) were worn much, much harder than these have been, and they weren't even close to this level of damage until 18-20 months.

  16. Compared with new jeans from PBJ:

    28039553034_338f296c15_b.jpg

The durability of these has been pretty awful. About 14 months of wear, and I can count, on quick glance, 26 difference places where they've torn. Sad to say, but would not buy again. Thankfully, my wife is good with a sewing machine and repaired most of the tears for me. I had her skip the tear on the upper left of the right back pocket because it was getting awfully close to the rivet (she pulls the pocket off from the bottom, leaving the rivets intact, stitches into the patch, and then stitches the pocket back down, so this upper one would be a huge pain in the ass). Also, the hems tore through badly on the fold (rolled high enough that they weren't getting stepped on, so IDK how this got so bad) within the first few months and I just never did anything about it.
