  1. Update from PBJ Double Indigo workshirt purchased from Foxy.  I'm finally getting some evo's, but it's always been a 1/2 too small.  This guy has been on some adventures and taking some beatings.

    Repair, retire, or rock out?

  2. I've had the x15, which didn't seem to stretch at all at the thigh or knee.  I have the PBJXPronto 18oz collab and it seems to have stretch at the thigh and knee by half an inch.

  3. I have some limited releases although I love and consider all my denim unique because how they fit slightly different and the experiences I've shared in them.  I'm changing my viewpoint of life and whichever I'm wearing is my favorite.  I had a interesting talk with someone about Bourbon and asked which was their all time favorite.  He said, which ever Bourbon is in front of me is my favorite.  It does make sense and I've been thinking about that mantra.  Not to be too critical on life and just enjoy it.   Enjoying the ride.

Naked and Famous - Elephant 1s - My true first pair of raw and heavyweight denim - Retired due to fit and too small.  Multiple international travels

Flathead 2015 - 20oz Limited Edition Denim.  My first contest pair and worn for the Heavy Weight Denim Championship 2.  Multiple international travels.   Semi Retired

Pronto x PBJ 2014 Collab - Orange weft Limited Edition - My main pair and worn when I moved to Nashville.  I learned swing dancing in these jeans.  I guess an ode to continue to learn and challenge yourself.

Samurai 710 BKB -  First black raw denim jeans

  4. Some recent photos of my old Wabash (as I want to sell it over at IHF - haven't worn it much the last years. Although it's hard to part).

Very nice! How much and what size?

  5. Hoping somebody could help please  :)

I am waist size 32.5 inches, so for the S710xx, should I go true to size? (According to blueingreen sizing, this would be tag size 31, which is 32.5 inches). From comments I have read, people have said this is the best way, but I am just worried after the shrink of 1 inch I would not be able to get into them to stretch them back out?

When in question, go true to size or size up to 32.  I think you should be fine with 31, the waist will stretch.  Personally, I haven't been too concerned with the waist as much as the back rise, thigh, and leg opening measurements.

  6. Does anyone have experience with AI-001? I did a quick search here but didn't find much. I certainly could have missed it...

I'm interested because the denim and details look amazing, but the measurements are what really appeal to me - straight fit, slight taper, medium rise. My one concern is the warp cotton is dyed to the core, so it doesn't produce high contrast fades; rather it fades slowly and evenly.

I was considering the AI and did a bunch of research.  The natural indigo is very stubborn to fade.  If you're looking for fast high contrast fades, don't get them.  The texture, quality, and build looked amazing though.

  7. Thanks!  Do you know if they have a store online?  I searched but could only find a blog.

I hope to come back with some nice fade pictures in a year or so :)

I think if I ever need to get the baldwin ten jeans waist taken in (if the waist stretches too much) then I might have the pockets moved at the same time.  They are a little farther apart than where I would like them to be, but not far enough to make me feel like I absolutely must fix it before I can wear them.  They are centered on the pocket zone, but I think my shape wants pockets to be closer to the back seam than the side seam, otherwise they don't look centered when I'm wearing it.  I'm mostly relieved that they are not as far apart as the 77bsp pockets.  On the 77bsp's the pockets were closer to the side seam than the back seam and that looked cringeworthy on me :)

They don't have an online store because everything is custom, made to order.  I'd send Scott an email at <[email protected]> and he'll tell you what he has in stock.  I have 2 belts - one black and another horsehide gunslinger in natural tan.  The horsehide is so thick and sturdy, I'd trust it if my life was on the line.

  8. Thanks guys!

They're not quite as slim as they seem, my height makes jeans like these look slimmer than they really are from a distance. But the room in the top block is really comfy and it's relaxed in a "classic" way, with not nearly as much hip flare and looseness as my Flat Head 2111s from last year. After wearing these for a few days I'm really happy with the fit and the whisker/honeycomb pattern.

    Fit is spot on

  9. Having the back pockets so far apart and wide would annoy me so much. Anyways, really nice fit and it would be nice to see your fades down the line.  If you're looking for thick belts, check out Don't Mourn Organize.  They do custom belts that are very affordable and thick as hell, great bang for your  buck.  Highly recommended.

  10. I’ve recently had some thoughts on Roy denim and can someone honestly tell me what’s the whole appeal?  Who will honestly pay $350 for this pair of denim? Theoretically with that type of money, you could easily buy a pair of quality Japanese denim and have enough left over money to buy a shirt.

    1.)    Cone Mill

    a.       I understand the American history and lineage with this "heritage" mill, but honestly it isn’t very good denim.  All the 10-13oz denim I’ve inspected is flimsy and just seems very suspect to ripping and blow outs.  I’ve always questioned the longevity and durability of denim from that mill.

    2.)    Fades are not impressive

    a.       I know contrast fades aren’t the sole purpose of buying raw denim, but for a majority of us it ranks pretty high.  The fades I’ve seen aren’t very impressive at all and most of the combs and whiskers just look like wrinkles.

    3.)    Button Issue

    a.       I just saw that there was a button issue and everyone who purchased the jean will have to send them back to Self Edge.  If I’m paying a premium for craftsmanship, would there be a button issue for a WHOLE  jean production line?

    4.)    Marketing and “Spinning†Product Details

    a.       In a lot of his production details, they explain that they “did not haveâ€, “could not produce†, “never to be made again†or “had to use another company manufacture to ensure it met quality standards.† This all seems really hokey to me.  If my production line could not produce a specific part of my final product, does that automatically correlate to exclusiveness? Does that type of exclusiveness justify the price point? What's the reason a designer, manufacturer, or seller would be adding that to the production details? Should a customer pay a premium if the manufacturer is going through multiple production channels to create their final product?

I’m not trying to put Roy or Self Edge on blast, but I just don’t see the allure of Roy denim.

  11. As 2015 comes to a close, it has been a great year.  I wish you all success, happiness and most important health.  To kind of touch on Max’s thoughts, we live blessed lives and may not face as much adversity in life compared to others.  In hindsight, a lot of difficulties we face in life are trivial and it’s always important to live life to the fullest extent and love your family and friends.

    Some quick thoughts

    Denim

    -          I pretty much have everything I want and need.  I will continue to wear my PBJxPronto collab, which have been evolving quite nicely and throw in the Samurai 710 BKB when I feel I need to change it up.  My Samurai denim jacket is also fading really nicely and need to take some pictures, but have gotten lazy about it.  I think I’m not as “into†raw denim as I used to a couple of year ago.  Once you start to see what brands are releasing with their jeans and you know your fit and theirs, that takes a lot of the allure out.  I guess it’s not as exciting as it was once was.  I haven’t been visiting rawr denim/superfuture as much as I used to or don’t really care if I see other people wearing raw denim in public.

    2016 and beyond

    -          Continue to work on opening a restaurant in Nashville.  Need to work a pop-up event, finish my business model, scout for locations, join the Small Business Association/Entrepreneur center, and host tasting events.  So much to do.

    -          I picked up swing dancing this year and continue to take classes and learn as much as I can.  It’s been really a life saver because it’s a fun, active hobby that takes up time on the weekends, so I don’t have to go to bars anymore.

    -          Met a friend that is a tailor.  I would like to learn how to repair holes and to hem.

    -          Met a friend that is a blacksmith.  I would like to make a kitchen or pocket knife

    -          My inner-kid self is considering buying a pinball machine.  I don’t know I think they have a lot of maintenance to upkeep.

    -          Join a talent agency and try to work some acting jobs.  It’s always been on my bucket list and looks/sounds like a lot of fun.

    -          Compete in 2016 Tennessee State Judo Championship and International Judo Federation Masters World Tournament
