  1. I did a lot of research on this a few months ago and concluded that it was basically impossible. The US retailers no longer carry them because the black PVD wears off. They're waiting for a tegiment model to come out, which apparently is in the works. they also wouldn't help me get one through an authorized dealer in the EU that had it in stock. I was about to proxy it, but DDML saved the day and sold me his. Good luck.

Odd.. I kind of like the way it looks when it starts to fade/chip off.

I've seen a few sell on eBay, I just wanted to buy one new. Thanks for your help though.

  2. ^ Looks like an older Wolverine workshoe - one just sold on the bay last week.

Thanks, they look sort of similar. It looks like the label reads Endicott Johnson, I just am not sure was style the shoes specifically are... They aren't derby's or bals-- anyone know what they are?

  3. sufu approved skateboarding rule #6 - Dress the part.

Now that you've hopefully gotten into the part that counts, try dressing like a skater. Some good brands include Etnies, Element, DC, Circa, Quiksilver, Billabong, Vans, and Zoo York. You don't always have to have brand name things, though. Even second hand shops like Goodwill and Value Village have some nice things.

Pants - You can wear them tight or baggy, depending on what you like.

Rips are really good, and they scream, "I can skate." Just don't make them yourself. Actually try skating and ripping them from shredding an awesome trick. Graffiti pants. Write, write, write all over your pants. Make sure you only do this to 1 or 2 of your pants.

Skater shorts. If it's hot out, wear shorts with pockets.

    Cargo pants/shorts are nice, too.

Shirts - Any shirt is really good, doesn't matter if it's tight or baggy...Just don't match baggy things up too much, or you end up looking like a gangster.

    Shoes

Skater shoes. These are usually the only shoes skaters wear, because they have flat bottoms and can grip to the board. Try DC, Vans, fallen or DVS .

Hair - Any color of hair usually works if it's long. Lots of skaters have curly hair, so don't bother buying a straightener unless you want to. Many skaters also have straight or wavy hair. Just go natural, man.

Hats - Flat brimmed hats usually end up making your head look wide and flat.Any hat will really work, but only if it's a ballcap or toque. You don't see skaters walking around in cowboy hats and boas.

Belts - Skaters always wear belts to keep their pants from falling down when they are skateboarding. Shoelaces always work. Can't have the other skaters at the skate park seeing those underpants.

Are you 13? Skating is like punk rock, making all those ridiculous rules are antithetical to the entire culture.

  4. Maybe I am just too dirty and too poor but some tips from head-fi say that leaving the tips in boiling water for 30 min works. Does the trick for me.

How does that not melt them?

I just use rubbing alcohol. It sterilizes and picks up dirt and dries quick.

  5. OH MEEEEE GAWD TACTICOOL WATUR BATTLEZ!!!!!!!!!

Actual question... Are there any swiss army tools with toothpicks and tweezers (not as important) but have a metal outer plates? (Don't think so but I may have missed something...)

I have a stainless Victorinox SAK I got years ago that had like a compass, leather holder, and came with one of those keychain Maglites. But here's the thing... it has no logo on it and I can't seem to find it anywhere and I bent the crap out of the corkscrew on it, grrrrr, so now I can't replace it... Oh well I guess.

  6. Almost everyone I see in NYC rocking fanny packs is either:

    A - Over 50

    B - Under 25

    C - not American

I don't know too many Americans born between 1965 and 1985 or so who would think of wearing one, too many bad associations. Grandma and Grandpa played that look out.

I think this applies to B/C

  7. Ok, here's my first pocket dump contribution. Hope it's not too derivative. Sun's finally out which is great (and cold) but sorry about the shadows. I only carry one folder, but had the other in the bag today.

-Keys w/ Fenix E01 & old SAK (not sure which model, but has scissors. Want to swap for one w/ bottle opener

-Billykirk zip wallet (10 months in)

    -PD20

-Ambitious (new EDC; wanted to try a slightly smaller folder)

-Pilot Precise (left my old Lamy in a coat I need to track down)

    -CRKT B.U.L.L

-Zippo tape measure (been using it recently for projects, so it's EDC right now, but not all the time)

-Hill-side bandana (20 months in. Kinda just want a pocket square, since these are bigger than I really need)

Pic w/ iPhone 3G. Upgrade date is in April. I'll be excited for the nicer camera.

What color was that bandanna originally? Red?

  8. what bothers me about this whole naruto war of the ninjas arc is that it's just so fucking unrealistic. i always felt like ninjas worked as individuals or in small groups relying on their unique powers to form a seamless team that had a minimum of weaknesses. now it's just a war and a war is fought by soldiers who are the opposite of what a ninja represents. a homogenous fighting force all with the same skillset for their specific tasks.

also what made naruto interesting were the individual ninjutsus and how they worked in a small environment against a single target. again in a war this just doesn't work

my emotional investment into the characters is just really nonexistant because there are just so many characters you're supposed to give a shit about. but them dying just doesn't really mean anything anymore because they are now 'soldiers' in a war, a mere casualty.

the only reason i'm still reading is because i've come so far reading the story and i want to know the lame ending that will without a doubt come. neither naruto nor sasuke will get killed. nothing will be resolved, nor will there be any emotional maturity or character development. naruto bascially still behaves like the kid from the beginning of the story and that is just what baffles me the most. the only thing that changed is the fact the he gets keeping stronger in in his fighting prowess but his mental faculties just never change. how can someone like that become hokage?

i've been ranting too much so i'ma leave it at that. i bet some narutard is gonna put me in my place but whatever, i just stopped giving a damn

Same here. I'm frustrated that I feel like Naruto has 'jumped the shark' at this point. After they killed Jiraya it seemed like everything started to go downhill. Also, I feel like there are so many characters it just jumps around too often and you might wait 6 weeks to get back to a character you care about.

Abou this war too... Sasuke/Naruto are completely absent, seems kind of pointless and you know at the end Naruto will master his new technique in time, come and kill Kabuto/Madara and save the day just before Kakashi, Hinata or Sakura or Gaara or someone he's emotionally attached to is killed by Madara.

Also, they keep adding characters and seemingly get bored of them and then ignore them: Sai, Killer Bee, all of Sasuke's goons, Neji, Shino, etc.

I feel like the writers have no clue where to take the manga anymore. The show follows the same plot over and over, Naruto learns awesome technique and somehow manages to defeat the uber-boss. First it was Gaara, then Orochimaru, then Pain, now Madara.

Also, I really want to see Gaara and Sasuke fight for some bizarre reason. And wth happened to Neji and his byakugan? It seems like they gave up on the Sharingan/Byakugan relationship.

Ugh... but like you I'd read ever chapter so it's hard to just stop. I stopped for like 8 months last year and then ended up just reading them all and catching back up.

  9. anyone that swears by bose is a fucking idiot. you should immediately stop taking any advice from them when it comes to electronic equipment.

Bose forces stores to fix the price of Bose products to reenforce the perception that it is a premium product. That is why you never see it on sale.

Bose does road-shows where they show their small mp3/cd player and small speakers - but hide the $4,000+ worth of parametric equalizers and Krell amps between the two. So it gives the impression of great sound without admitting there is lots of equipment they do not sell to make it happen.

Bose advertises in AARP (American Association of Retired Peoples) magazine targeting the elderly - not a demographic known for good hearing.

Bose has sued magazines including Consumer Reports to avoid negative reviews or comparisons with other gear.

Bose spends 10 times more on Marketing then Engineering.
