  1. I love my Porky's btw. Somebody (I think b_F) sent me a pm about sharing updated pictures for these at some point - and I will at some point this summer. I now have two pairs of them. One getting fairly worn in and one worn when I need dark/unfaded jeans.

I really liked them when I first received them and here are some long term impressions:

-still like the denim, it has nice vertical streaking. They aren't dyed super deep as the fading moves from blue to white fairly quickly.

-cotton thread sucks. These will need repairs soon.

-still hands down the best cut for my body type

-price point is amazing for what you get

-biggest thing I love is the lack of hidden rivets. On all my past jeans, the hidden rivets caused advanced wear long before they were needed to keep the pockets from coming off. I don't have that problem with these :)

-my second pair did have one rivet pop off - don't really care though.

  2. I remember when Sal was a newbie on the IH forum - posting nonstop and grinding his pants against anything near him to accelerate his fading.

As time went on, you couldn't ignore he was a good dude. Glad to see him catch on in the industry - hopefully it works out for him.

  3. Judging by the measurements posted online, you're probably a 46 (that is assuming the 23 inch chest you reference being the measurement of a shirt that fits you well, rather than your true chest measurement). This isn't jeans. Don't expect a shirt to stretch into a perfect fit. You want a shirt to measure ~2 inches more than your actual chest - any smaller and you get 'pull' at the buttons... not a good look.

  4. These are my IH-634s - I bought them around June of 2011. They've been my primary jean since. Washed four times or so. No major repairs yet as I just throw a ton of poly-cotton thread at any problem that starts to surface. It was pretty bright out when I took these so IRL they are a bit darker/not as contrasty. I love how they've worn in so far.

  5. Okay, I am going to preface this by saying I am not the best photographer in the world - but that's okay. I tried to show details that you don't necessarily see online as of now. Also, these will be more of a 'nice' jean for the next year (or whenever my IH wear out), so they will get 60 wears tops during that duration. I do, however, intend to wear them out and am not the type to get bored and buy another pair of jeans I don't really need.

Here's a picture that I feel does justice to the denim. It came one washed - but was not violently washed. If not for some crinkling on the waistband, I couldn't tell. The denim has great, subtle character. No huge, artificial slubs. Rather, it has areas where the individual yarn gradually gets thicker (say from #6 thickness to 6.5 thickness). Basically, its going to have great, subtle vertical falling. I'm pretty excited about it.

Now onto the detailing, which for me, has been interesting. They cut corners on some things to get the price down so low - not that it is a bad thing and you can tell it was thoughtfully done. There's a ton of grade A details as well. It's a 66 cut, so there's no rivets - but that's not all that accounts for such a low price. They consider this their budget jean in their line.

First, the patch. Pretty run of the mill leather. It's the type that won't turn it to beef jerky if not taken care of. It'll just crumble to nothing.

Plus: Continuous chain stitch on the waist band. My IH don't have this and I find that pretty annoying. Overall, the stitching on these is fairly clean. They have places where it gets off a tad. From a price standpoint, it probably saves a lot of money to say, "Do this many pieces per hour to the best of your ability. Don't worry about every stitch being perfect." And when they're finished, I'm sure they don't hold a ton of pairs back during the QC portion of production.

Porky's own red tab. I like how it doesn't poke out a ton.

The buttons are an area where they cut down the price - most buttons, as you all know, have two portions: the shank and the face. I'm assuming getting that done up with a custom face is pretty pricey. One option is to have generic laurel/stars or the like. The other, is to have a two piece face. Huh? Remember those jingly sounding buttons you find on old overalls (or today's OshKosh kids line)? Those have a two piece. Essentially, the have a generic face. They custom stamp a face on a separate piece of metal. This metal is then folded onto the generic face. Boom! This process is pretty well done as the top button is the only one that jingles (barely at that).

Pink selvage ID and dual chain stitching down the inner leg. Two tone chain stitch on the inseam. Overall, the jean uses primarily copper colored thread but lemon yellow appears from time to time.

This is my favorite: see how much excess denim is left on the inside once the coin pocket is folded? Looks clean from the outside. Save money on the inside! The back pockets are like this as well. My back left pocket has almost an inch of extra denim just chilling on the inside.

Overall, I'm really pleased with these. The denim has great character. The construction, while streamlined, is made to last. The fit is fantastic. Measurements for my size 34 were:

    Waist: 33

    Thigh: 13

Leg opening (with my 30 in inseam): 8.75

    Front rise: 11

    Back rise: 14.75

Lastly, no fit pics.. but here is how the denim falls on my primary footwear:

  6. Ordered a pair of Porky's 66 cut yesterday. Pretty excited, I'll have to update with some pictures when I get them.

Got 'em this week - came out to $210 dollars w/proxy. Pictures/Full impressions to come... :)

  7. Right, just figured I'd update the timeline due to this:

I think one problem here is, the old Skull denim faded very well & nice, with many example represented in this thread. But when the change happened, too many people were worried ( I "accuse" Kiya for amplify this feeling) and stayed away from the new denim resulting in less faded pairs that could convince people, these jeans and denim is also great.

... simply because it was inaccurate and really changes how the whole 'Fall of Skull' story line plays out.

That being said, I'm sure Kiya and Gordon made decisions that were best for their individual companies and I'd agree its silly to speculate the reasons why.

.. lastly, the new jeans do look great and the 5507 cut has always temped me... just dunno if I could ever get past the Ed Hardy patch ;)

  8. hmm. Skull switched to to 'new' denim and SE gladly brought it in. Because it was great stuff. The jeans sold well but eventually their stock ran low... and then Skull wasn't producing jeans in a timely fashion... I remember SE being out of stock for a while. Every so often people would ask in the SE thread when a restock was coming. There were various responses about Skull not being sure if they wanted to do denim anymore or thinking they were more of a shirt company ect... but there definitely weren't any restocks for a long time.

Then Kiya announced the sale of the remaining stock at SE - because he saw the new samples and was not impressed with where the brand was going - including the brand using stock denim from mills (not the previous Zimbabwe cotton denim). Some of the new Skull denim did appear at BiG a while after (the 666 models - 5% polyester????). There were no new 5507 or 5010 restocks during this time...

A great while later, Benny at Take 5 took it upon himself to revive the brand. The 5010 / 5507 models you see now are a result of this and should be solid.

tl;dr - Not so much Kiya, more so Skull not really being full in on making jeans/using stock denim when anybody who is anybody gets theirs custom woven/changing the cuts.

  9. Would I be a fool to get my DC4001's tapered? The leg opening is a bit too wide for my style/liking.

Spend 400+ for jeans and find out the fit isn't perfect? You bet you get them tapered. If you're going to wear them for a year make sure you love the fit.

  10. sup brownmetallic,

I browse the forums. There are things I like and don't like. I rep according to the individual post, regardless of the name of the poster (bf is a great example.. I've negged him for things I don't like and I've +repped him for things I do) I'd rather use the rep system in most instances rather than start a discussion over, what is, simply my opinion. Anybody is welcome to pm if they're curious about the justification behind a rep I give.

As for pictures - I'm pretty infrequent with those. I do take the occasional evo picture but I'm probably one wash away on my most worn pair.
