  1. hey guys, im usually a flat head & RRL guy, but these intreast me as im looking to join the LVC club, other than them being one wash can you guys help me make sense of this model? are they 47's?

    Help Me Identify These Please?!?

Vinneus, I don't think those are LVC at all- probably something from Levi's Premium line. (No back pocket rivets or big 'E', so not a '47, and the arcuates look wrong for a '60s Levi.)

If you want a LVC jean in a similar cut (fairly modern and slim), the '47 or '66/'67 would be close, and jcrew carries models of both. Though Cultizm would be cheaper.

  2. I was in Unionmade again this afternoon (damn, I'm really glad to have LVC for sale in SF again, but I'm spending way too much time there), and one of the guys there, Aaron, showed me his '47s that he had suspender buttons added to. He wondered if Levi's purists would hate him.

To make it more complex, the suspenders are Mr. Freedom.

  3. does anyone know if the Type III jacket from the 2010 collection will shrink much?

    Is it Cone denim?

    Hey Jason.

The type IIIs are sanforized, so minimal shrinkage. Maybe around 3%, maybe a bit more if you throw it in the drier?

    Love the avatar!

  4. @mpcec -I'm guessing 47s? Regardless, looking great roy6!:)

Thanks rif & mpec. They're '33s, but downsized so they look a lot trimmer. Sorta like '47s if you can't see the waist.

superscore- seconded. Sweatshirt day, March 10th. I'm not too familiar with PF Flyers so I don't know the model name. It says "Bob Cousy All American" on the tongue and "green label" on the bottom, but maybe they all do. I'll look at the PF Flyer site and try to match it.

  5. Sorry to overpost, but I wanted to take advantage of PaulT's having scrambled his password. Paul, I know you can't post, but I'll bet you're looking. How long to go, two or three more days?

This is the 40's EZ sweatshirt from this season.

  6. In Roy6's first pic, there's what looks like a Lee westerner on the mannequin between the two racks of clothes. Do they do the range of Lee westerner stuff, or am I mistaken?

    Those checked shirts look awesome!

    .

Doc, you mean the tan jacket? I looked at it, since there were some vintage Levi's pieces along that end of the rack, but I don't remember what it was, aside from not Levis. I was over-focused, and have already been admonished for not photographing the Alden's.

Maybe runnormal will check it out when he goes back to look at those 1915s again this weekend.:)

  7. I stopped into Unionmade SF today, they got some new LVC in.

    2010 1915s and 1947s. Shorty, no circle R on the '47s.

    A striped Sunset popover. Nice.

Shorthorn check shirts. IMHO, the nicest piece of non-denim/duck from this season. The wooden buttons are great, really nice ('40s?) cut.

  8. All my jeans twist pretty hard in the left leg (selvedge winds up in the middle of the pant leg). The right leg twists to various degress, but the LVC I have seems to twist more in the right leg than my MIJ denim does. I was a little leery of leg twist at first (thought it would look odd), but I learned to like it real quick, and the more my jeans twist the happier I am. IMO it give's them more of that vintage look and feel.

setterman, I've noticed the more extreme left leg twist in most of my selvedge jeans too.

  9. Today, I did a little sewing...

As far as I understand, the polar bear liberty cuffs were originally worn by sailors who had crossed the Arctic Circle. I've flown over it, and nearly crossed it on land (Iceland), but I thought it would be an homage to the northern climate where I live.

zissou, I hadn't realized the liberty cuffs had individual meanings. Do you know if there is any special significance to the mermaid cuff?

sorry, I know it's not strictly MF related.

  10. Interesting, as I was actually wondering that same thing, was their intention: customer should buy their tagged waist size, shrink them in the tub, and however they end up - either big/tight/etc - is how the designer/LVC intended for the jeans to fit for that year's model.... still think that is asking the customer to put a lot of faith in their sizing, especially at 225 a pop - better to size them correctly and let the customer decide what their fit preference is.

I think that that is their goal, but it doesn't work out in practice. Maybe they could do a dual tag- one with an actual waist measurement and a second, suggested "vintage fit" guide, like "size up two for a vintage style fit" or something along those lines.

333 clown pants, sized as directed by LVC (a 34W, I'm a 32). Actual waist size after washing (and drying in the machine!) =35".
