Looks like all of the catalogs from s/s2002 to s/s2008 are uploaded here, except for s/s2003.

Dr. House, how about some shots from the s/s '09 lookbook?

  2. Is there a resource online for the different LVC denim that is modeled off of items in their archives, like the guts for garters or saddleman. I just picked up a pair and am interested in what else is out there.

    Thanks

Unfortunately no, Levis is pretty digital media unfriendly. They say that all of their distressed models, denim and otherwise, are based directly on actual archival items, but they don't take advantage of that by posting images of the original items, or even a comprehensive selection of each seasons repros, to the web.

You can see most of this seasons distressed denim models here: http://www.hanon-shop.com/levi-vintage/

I think they are missing a real opportunity to grow their fan base here, but that's the route they've chosen.

If you wanted to see how accurate some of their repors are, a couple of items that I know they've reproduced that have good documentation online for the original garments are: the Nevada jeans, and (recently) the 1874 Hunting Jacket.

  3. Doc, you're right, the newness of the label should have tipped me off right away.

HH, I believe the 557 had a large label like this up until the late '60s, then had two variations of a smaller label until the small "e" came around.

  4. I found this at a resale shop a few days ago. Looks like an early LVC (1999, if I'm reading the tag correctly?). Great distressing job, I thought it was really a beat up '60s type III until I saw the suspiciously perfect repairs on the back, and then found the tag.

Anomolouslynice, the shoe in question is actually a hobnail boot in what looks like a size 16 or 17. I thought it must be yours, but possibly it was left by a clown that blew through here a few weeks back.

Satya- cuffs look good. Room could use a few bare wires sticking out of a wall or maybe a half-eaten sandwich on a plate on the floor.

  6. I've always suspected that LVC Japan took more liberties with their repros, but maybe not, after seeing that original 1874 hunting jacket.

I've wondered if this jacket, also LVC Japan, was based on an original in the same material. Does anyone know if Levis made the WWII type 506 in other materials? This one is in a sort of light colored khaki pique.

  7. I also must pay tribute to Superscore for how tidy his house always is. Those floors are gleaming. There's a real lesson for me. And Roy, the notorious toast fetishist.

A picture from this morning, heading out to work.

Paul, I hadn't read you post as of then, so didn't think to clear the rubbish up off of the floor.

Landocal- looking good! Can't rep you or vinneus right now, but I won't forget.

  8. The hair on my head?

Why, m00ba77, if I didn't know you better, I'd think you were fucking with me! Yep, the hair on your head. Looks good now, why not try it a little shorter, since you're experimenting. I think it would look good a bit shorter and a bit more faded along the sides and back.

  9. Nice link, hadn't seen that before. I am surprised at all the pre-washed models that are on there, lots and lots of them - the 33s that come with the Levi's suspenders look nice. Never knew there were so many LVC pieces available. Sure aren't cheap tho if the currency converter I am using is correct....

I guess there's more of a market for crazy distressed stuff in Japan, as LVC Japan made a lot of seriously distressed and destroyed & repaired looking stuff. They got criticized for that a lot here on sufu, but LVC Japan also made some really nice stuff that wasn't available in the US or Europe. Including that early hunting jacket (1874 or something), which looks really sweet, and which LVC is apparently going to release worldwide for 2010F/W.

They also produced a nice hickory-stripe 20's chore jacket and a natural colored pique WWII 506 jacket, just to name a couple pieces.

    I miss them.

  10. yea i know... does anyone know a good site for raw measurements of the diff models? almost like self edge does....

The Japanese site joe.net has most of the 2010 models up with detailed measurements:

    http://www.joenet.co.jp/casual/levi/vintage/index.html

Don't go by the older models or the LVC Japan models on this site, as there may be a lot of differences in sizing. Only the 2010 models they have up, which are the same models we get in the US & Europe now.

You'll need to use babelfish.com or google translations to translate the web page and figure out the labels for the measurements.

How are you liking the '47s?

  11. Vinneus, the jcrew photos don't match the jeans you have there. Yours do look like LVC '47s. Compare your pics to the jcrew photos of the back pocket, where you can see bar tacks and a small 'e'. Maybe they just used the wrong photos? I wonder why they didn't specify it as LVC, like they do in their other entries.
