  1. Love the new boots @the_ming!

thanks! i have been thinking about getting these for around 4 years now. i have a pair of smoke jumpers that just weren't seeing much wear because of the weight (steel toes, full vibram sole) and height (took way too long to lace up.) i took stock of what i liked and didn't like about the smoke jumpers and started thinking about a new boot.

i have a pair of alden indys in chromexel and they are great in the fall/spring, but not up to an NYC winter.

  2. just ordered a pair of bounty hunters, this is the only online community that i am a part of who would care.

edit: should have listed the options: 6", single midsole, vibram comp half sole, chromexel upper, the rest brown rough-out, brass, hook/loop, lined.

    got em:

  4. No real evo to show yet, but I fucking love my red selvage 2000 no1s

    that is all

i like mine a lot as well, but i feel that having to size up another size this time (got a 35 instead of a 34) resulted in a slightly looser feel, as i don't feel that they shrunk down to the size of my 34s from the year before.

i can't say that i like the fit quite as much, but only time will tell.

  5. Super props to whomever does the repairs at SENY. I've had at least 4 sets of repairs done to my evisu's that I didn't even purchase in their store, and every time they've done an absolutely bang up job.

    Some examples here:

agreed 100%. they did an amazing job on my evisus and my pbjs.

i will post some pics eventually in the repairs thread, but bravo guys, great work!

  6. Fuck that.... Just soaked these for 2 hours and they have shrunk ridiculously. Reckon they measure about 33x33 now. Will try them when dry but most likely going to sell. Pretty pissed off!!

i must say that sounds like they did exactly what we said they would. i know that it sucks, but it's expected behavior.

  7. Cool, the 2001 have the katakana Evisuya written on them as well :D .

i could have gotten a pair of 2000 no.1. at the store with the katakana but they were pre-washed. might have been a good choice though.

  8. ^ Nice, waiting on mine.

How 'd you find the neoprene cork outsole? OK in the rain?

the soles are really nice and springy, but i haven't worn them in real rain yet so i can't report back about how they deal with it. others have told me that they are fine in the rain though.

  9. This is non-tokyo, but anyone ever spent much time in kyushu? I'm heading to fukuoka to booze and would like to check out some of the cool nearby shit beyond nagasaki/kumamoto. Sort of considering heading to kagoshima but I have no idea what there is to do there or if I'd just be bored out of my mind.

As for real estate in that area near the Otani, stuff is still really expensive -- it might be cheaper on the NW side of Yotsuya eki though.

mrs ming is from kyushu (oita) but the only time we go there is to see her parents, which is cool, but not exactly an attraction for anyone else.

my advice? skip oita if you're in kyushu.

  10. Not entirely germaine to the conversation, but I'm making a trip to San Francisco next week and am wondering if there is anything to stop for at the Levi's headquarters? Little museum? Shop? Or is it just offices?

i'm going there at the end of june and would like to check this out as well. IIRC there is some sort of flagship store with LVC stuff.

  11. Went out to dinner at New Heights on The Bund where I had a delicious rendang curry and got some of the best views available.

oh, i remember that place. i got to go eat there right before it opened at a pre-opening preview dinner, a few years back. food was amazing and the view as well. good times.

thanks for reminding me of it!

  12. so, after thinking long and hard about my needs in a boot, i decided not to get a pair of bounty hunters, and picked up a pair of brown chromexel alden indys. went to moulded shoe in nyc and was fitted and really loved them. liked the feel of the modified last indys, but they only had them in standard brown, and i wasn't sure i liked the look of the toe on that version. i'd like to see how a broken in pair would look.

highly recommend going in the moulded sole if you are in NYC. great guys, great shop.

  13. the_ming - I don't think the BH is what you're looking for - I doubt they're much lighter than SJ's and will also be too heavy for city use. Go with the SD, or another lighter utility shoe if you don't like that style. Just my 2 cents.

i think i overstated my issues with my SJ, by being shorter and having a lot less sole i'm pretty sure they will be ok. in reality i quite like a boot with some substance, and after looking hard at the SD, i think i'd be happier with a BH.

  14. i am considering getting some whites bounty hunters as an alternative to my smoke jumpers (the SJ are just too much boot for the city unless there's a lot of snow and ice on the streets.) they are also very heavy.

i like the looks of the bounty hunters better than the semi-dress, but am not sure how much lighter they will be, and am wondering if any of the people who own them can comment.

i am thinking that i will go with a single midsole and a composite half sole for these, with the standard heel, and a 6" height. will these be lighter than the standard SJ (lug sole)

i also have to choose between rough out and smooth leather, but that's something i will just have to work out for myself (decisions, decisions)

  15. Hey boys, bought a couple of No.1's because of the new prices and now im a bit worried. I have put on some weight over the last year but im pretty sure the sizing has changed a little as well. If any1 is getting a pair with the red selvage line I would recommend going up 1 more size as they seem quite small. Struggled to button these up raw, think im in trouble.

yeah i posted about this already, the advice from the evisu store was to size up 3, instead of the usual 2, as the new denim shrinks a lot.
