  1. @meros, i personally think u did the correct thing by soaking them. i soak regardless of whether the jeans are sanforized or not. i made the mistake with my first pair of raws by wearing them unsoaked for 6months before their first wash. they were uniqlo raws, which were made with sanforized kaihara denim, but despite the sanforization, some of the fades ended up shifting. i'm sure the degree of shrinkage varies from denim to denim (just as stretching and whatnot also vary), but i err on the side of caution and soak indiscriminately, while taking care to keep water temp consistent.

    btw @poly, that's f'n priceless

  2. Awesome pictures. One thing I noticed - what were the arcs made of back then? These were worn by miners that actually mined stuff, eventually torn up, exposed to the elements for 100+ years, and yet the arcs have held up better than most 1 year old Flathead arcs. Now those were some serious construction.

  3. @hollowsleather

I agree to the extend that Levi's, like many other clothing company, cultivates an image or lifestyle as part of their "look." However, I respectfully disagree that LVC's anti-marketing serves the purpose of legitimizing or promoting the historical nostalgia of Levi's. I think the obscurity of LVC prevents the consumer from appreciating the historical context that LVC should provide for Levi's. The reality is most people, including most Levi's wearers, are not aware of LVC's existence. Instead, a website and real tangible marketing of LVC, even if only a small online one, could promote all the romantic history and quality behind Levi's.

    ^thx for the rep

  4. Hi I'm new to this current LVC discussion topic (but not entirely to LVC jeans) but let me chime in, as I find the points being made quite interesting.

If I'm not mistaken, the origin of this debate and much of the frustration stems from Levi's's? unwillingness to maintain/open a domestic website devoted to LVC. And our speculation is that Levi's would much rather cultivate an aura of exclusivity or cult status than provide information to the consumers. I wholly agree with that speculation, since operating cost of running a website is minimal to insignificant for a company as large as Levi's, especially with an existing US Levi's site. There is no other rational business reason not to.

Now, is that good for business? I agree that LVC has become a luxury item solely based on the price alone ($200+ for a pair of jeans is by definition luxury), but how does denying consumers access to information (I'm not even talking online retail) help your bottom line? It doesn't and it hasn't, since someone else has mentioned they haven't been profitable. So this ineptitude is to prevent loss of exclusivity? I personally believe US market demand for expensive Levi's denim, even at the peak of raw/heritage/... craze, is not great enough that LVC should fear over-exposure or market saturation. As opposed to Japan or Europe, LVC is sought after by a small number of people here in the states. However, they are wiling to pay extra for better quality. I simply think it is asinine to deprive these people of information - simple information that would make the buying process less cumbersome. And perhaps, if the right information is presented and promoted, that small number of consumers will grow and make LVC profitable.

BTW I am grateful for the information provided by SUFU and the people on this thread. Otherwise, I'd have to rely on Levi's or Barney's sales rep (only two sources of LVC here in NYC) for sizing and etc... and that's just stupid.

  5. can anyone help or advice me on sizing for Pbj ladies 1069 ?

im trying to get one for my girl who is at a natural waist of 26. i dont know which size to get as the smallest size on the BiG website is size 0(27)

more important than the waist is the thigh measurement. 1069's are slim through the seat and thighs and that becomes the limiting factor. if she's on the skinny side with a waist 26, then go with 0. any real meat on her lower body would necessitate sizing up. if she's got some junk in the trunk, then i'd advise looking at other models/brands.

  6. ... when u get a kick out of seeing raw, selvedge, vintage jawns on television. For example, on tonight's season premier of Justified (on F/X), there was what appeared to be a vintage-cut raw denim, with a huge single cuff showing nice bit of selvedge. The show is fairly entertaining but the consistent appearances of nice vintage fits make it soooo much more interesting to watch.

  7. @wtf. I bought my sister a pair of PBJ ladies slims over Christmas and IIRC it was 5% elastane or whatever stretchy material with obvious rebound. She also noted very tight thighs with waist being ok, but they've loosened up to make it comfortable. Now it stands to reason, ur waist is still so slender that u might still have wear a belt. I only say this because #1) women's jeans almost always have some sort of elastic material and #2) despite this, you stated that you wear a belt with most of your jeans. So I recommend taking it to a nice tailor and getting the waist taken a little.

I think BiG is the only distributor of PBJ in the states.

hope that helps. and don't forget to post.

  8. sizing advice on slim fit please?

RRLs vanity sized like APC? do they stretch out much like APC? will rep thanks.

27 in NC, not sure what size to get.

Recently tried both slim and straight. Slims have a straight slim seat with moderate taper from the knee down. Vanity sized: I am a true 31 but 28 fit perfect. For reference, I'm 5'8" 145lbs and wear my jeans on the hip bone. I bought the straight so I cannot really say how the fit evolved but the denim does exhibit mild stretch. After 3 months of wear, ~1in of stretch at the waist. Haven't washed yet but I kinda expect it to shrink back. Hope that helps.

  9. For Sale

Black Feit Moc-Hi boots BNWT with box

    asking for: $120 + shipping (original retail: $320) >> $110 + shipping

I bought these from plndr.com 4 days ago and they are tad too big. I'm a size 8.5-9, for reference. So, if you are a size 42 in Common Projects or 9 in AF1, they'll fit you perfectly (as I am size 41 in CP and 8.5 in AF1). I'll post my own pictures once I get enough interests. For now these pics will do:

  10. I bought a pair of LVC 501xx '47 tagged 29x34 at Barney's Outlet here in NY last month. I cold soaked once but never wore it. I tried it on but does not fit me as I want it to. I'll post pics and BiG sizing once I get some interested PM's. I'll start the pricing at $180 shipped ConUS. $190 rest of the world. or if we meet up in NYC, $170. OBO (i'm not sure how much to sell it for since it is $245 new here in the states).

Sorry it is New but WITHOUT tag... I messed up the thread title.

  11. Haven't checked on this thread for sometime - figured I needed the distance for healing to take place. And what do I see after several days? First page pics of the jeans, ouch... it's like randomly running into that girl that broke ur heart and realizing she was hotter than u remembered. or something like that.

  12. There was no application, except for the last three spots.

And, frankly, just bringing up the idea of selling these jeans shows that you shouldn't have had the opportunity to purchase a pair in the first place.

believe u me that thought never crossed my mind. i don't have to have murderous thoughts to know murders are possible. my point was that the four people planning this wanted to prevent something like that. and frankly, to say that i "shouldn't have had the opportunity to purchase a pair in the first place" only makes you sound elitist. unless u r, then so be it.

  13. ^^ I understand and share your feelings as I too missed out on this. But I also understand why they "announced" it the way they did. I personally did not invest myself in networking with Cone, Mr Slaper, and everyone involved. So those that did, namely the four people who we had to PM, probably wanted to make it a surprise and at the same time wanted to include people they knew to be good participants. So they teased the public while (I'm only guessing) choosing people based on history and dependability. As I see your number of posts and mine (we both have very little), even if we had applied early enough, it probably wasn't good enough. My cousin and I were talking about this contest (I am getting him into jeans btw) and he said: "you can probably make a huge profit on ebay with this if you get it, cuz it's so rare" and he is probably right. A limited edition 30 pairs using the most unique Cone denim EVER with the frenzy that is this very thread, I'm sure I could have made alot of money with this. So to prevent any of the 30 pairs ending up on the market, some of the people probably got an earlier invitation or locked-in slots because they knew or had already gained the trust of the Four Horsemen of URCC. All conjecture but i need something to console myself. And yeah Scout I share ur pain.

nvm - roy6 basically outlined the contestant choosing process, but my guess was pretty good with early invite/locks

  14. ^^^hah! Can't help it. I woke up 6am this morning and the 1st thing I did was a quick sufu message check. I never thought I'd get this excited over a pair of jeans. I'm kicking myself for not finding this thread until late last night. I usually check superdenim page for unsubscribed threads but I've been so damn busy lately. I hope I didn't miss the cut by just couple of hours.
