There was a 'denim in movies' themed thread somewhere, actually there's probably more than one buried in the pages here. I think Badlands along with Hud and The Misfits are the best Old top denim movies (maybe throw in the Outsiders as a sub)

@yung_flynn One of my fav denim films. Yes those are 1950s Levis 501xx and many of the police officers in the film wear them too! There's a great moment where he shows us how to put a type 2 on in the coolest of ways, if l had more tech know-how l'd post it here.

The original pair that Sugarcane copied are featured in the Vintage denim thread (wasn't aware when l originally posted the pics but have since amended the post) and they indeed have a red tab.

Buy them, then focus on slimming down until they fit! Plus then you can sell me one of your csf bucklebacks as they will be too big 😅

Well l don't know for sure if these are based on "historical facts" but l would certainly take any info from them with a huge pinch of salt after hearing that the 'one piece sleeve' model of their s406xxx (506xx repro) that was based on a model made in 1946 only, is in fact just a production quirk and many 506XX models made between 1946 and 1950 (and probably pre 1946) have this feature. Tbh it's probably just their 'fun way' to distinguish between the range of product quality during WW2 for marketing purposes.

Good job @Double 0 Soul - we have a few of those insect houses on one of our courses but on a grander scale - Several pallets stacked high scale, so think insect tower blocks!

@ChemProfJSpencer Cone Mills made the denim for levis 501xx exclusively from 1922 onwards. The Cone denim used back then had a lot more character, such as your neppy feel with slubs and loom chatter. The denim changed three times, once in the mid 1950s (a lighter blue dye it seems), mid 70's (sulphur dye technique was briefly introduced) and again in 1984 when the selvedge disappeared and the denim became more fluffier/bulkier, but had pretty much lost all that character by then. (As for the denim being a flaw, l've not seen evidence to support it). The introduction of repros from the mid 1990s aimed to rectify that, trying to get denim made that replicated that character. And here we are 30 odd years later with an array of manufacturers and different denims doing just that! Hope that helps?

No mystery. The reason is that by 1980, for most vintage denim enthusiasts, the denim and details on vintage examples (which are then repro'd) are pretty much 'meh'. And the lvc version is a good example of why: bland and boring at best.

I can remember almost buying a pair identical to those for about £350, mind you this was back in the mid- 2000's. I passed as was maxed out on my Lvc debit card 😭
