  1. We've all made that mistake at one time or another. I usually go at least 4 months before the first soak. Just wear'm baggy for a while. Its just temporary and the results will be worth it. Hot wash and dryer = removeing all the startch and stiffness thats in raw denim. To get the fades set in my opinion works best when the denim is raw. After the fades are all set which can take a good deal of time because one day in the mine or a week in the fields = months on the bar stool.

My mistake was just not machine washing them when this pair first arrived to get the shrinkage out. They're much snugger and will probably fade easier anyway. They're still extremely dark, so I'll probably get pretty decent fades in a few months.

  2. Ahhh. Go ahead and machine wash them on hot. It won't matter. I just recommend hand washing, that is, if you are not looking for extra shrinkage or something.

Well, damn. I was hoping to be talked out of it, but I guess I'll go for it. Wish me luck (I'm nervous...).

EDIT: Done, but I'm a little worried about this huge vertical crease that formed from hooking around the middle of the washer machine. Hopefully it goes away.

I tried searching the thread to find the definition of "hard wash" that I believe I've heard Paul T mention, but couldn't find it. Can anyone help me out? I'm thinking of washing these soon.

Alright, it's been 3 months. Should I handwash? No real fades yet...

EDIT: Or should I just throw them in the wash? I've only done the pre-soak and I think they could shrink a lot more.

  4. I want to thank Kiya for his advice on this one. I love this thing.

Notice how the neckline pulls away at the side seams and forces the front and back of the neckline towards the neck. This is exactly what happens with my vintage ones. The front and back V detail is fantastic (rib material and no silly runoff stitch). Check out the puckering around the waistline...just like those JC Penny double Vs that vivaloschet posted above. The sleeves are baggy at the under arm, yet tight around the forearm. Yet another great vintage detail. It's hard for me to compare the fabric to my vintage sweats, since they have no doubt been washed a million times. The Hinoya sweatshirt is very soft, and super comfortable.

The transaction with Hinoya was great. They corresponded in English, accepted paypal, and shipped fast. I sent the payment on Wednesday afternoon and had the sweatshirt on Saturday morning.

The color is a bit off in the picture. In real life it's charcoal gray.

Where did you order it and how much did it cost you? It looks great.

  5. B. Nelson doesn't do cat paws because they don't have a machine like a "Rapid E" to punch through all those layers. It can be done by hand but that would take a lot of effort . I think Eddie's just glues and nails them on. Make sure you go to a cobbler that has one of those sole stitching machines. Also HTC in LA has some deadstock cat paw soles. Always buy a bigger heel than your actual size.

You might have to do a complete re-sole for cat paws, so it might cost you a bit.

Can you specify what you mean by "HTC?" I tried googling it, but haven't come up with anything.

  6. From PaulT

The Hard Wash (not a technical term) was when my wife bunged them in the washer at 50 degrees with standard detergent (Non biological). And they suddenly looked really good. That really brought out the zing in them - but the dark areas, like the bottom of the legs, are still nice and dark.

At that first wash, I thought this was maybe because the newer 1947 were inferior to the 2006 editions. But now I think this pair look just as good as the last ones - altho I can't compare them side by side as I sold the last pair to Beatle, I think he posted them on the Evo thread fairly recently.

Do feel free to post this if you think it's of any use, hello all, I will be back in September with updates on my 55s, 1901s and - the horror - my SDA 103!

    Thanks man.

  8. My LVCs are making me a little nervous. I had to soak them twice (first cold, then hot because they didn't shrink very much) and I'm wondering if it has inhibited the fading. I've been wearing them everyday (though not very hard) for almost three months and I haven't gotten much beyond creases/combs. They're still really dark though.

Ah, thanks. Sounds perfect because I'm moving to LA next month.

  10. I remember PaulT saying something about giving his '47's a "hard wash" got the best color (or colour out of respect to Pauls noble English heritage) out of them. Is a "hard wash" putting them through the hot cycle in a washing machine?

Quoting because I also want this question answered..
