  1. Right. Just about to enter the Realm of Raw with a pair of 710xx, possibly 15th anniversary edition size/availability allowing. I've read most of this thread and have taken a lot of helpful info re: size and fit to confirm my choice of the 710s. I do however have a size/fit question from an angle I haven't seen covered... Namely, I tried a pair on at S.O.A.S on a recent trip to London. The size I chose was pretty much bang on, perhaps a tiny, tiny bit tight. My question then is, if they are a perfect fit in the shop brand new, will they be the right size to buy bearing in mind soaking/shrinking and subsequent stretching?

Ps two things I really, really don't want are saggy arse or hip flare...

I have a pair of 710's, and I can tell you that my size 33's now measure about 35.5" in the waist, so no worries about the denim stretching in the waist. You won't get as much stretch in the thighs though, so just be careful there.

  2. ^ I forgot you had the 23 oz 634's. I can't wait to see what you do to those. I've got the 23 oz in the Leather Soul collab and I LOVE the denim. Wish I could wear them more than twice a week.

How's the new 22 oz denim compared to the 23 & 25 oz?

  3. F'n hell, the new Self Edge 633 cut looks like it could be exactly the IH cut I've been looking for... for the 25oz denim. Not that the loomstate 20oz denim doesn't sound interesting, but if this cut were available in the 25oz denim I'd know for sure what my next pair of jeans would be.

  4. The arcs, the exposed selvage and all the different buttons ruin it for me. pocket bags and lined pockets are cool. I also like the Lee rivets. Hopefully they will do the 511 cut in a more traditional manner soon.

I could even live with the buttons. But the exposed selvage on the coin pocket is lame, and I don't think I've met the stitch puller that was a match for those arcs. Which denim is it?

  5. This winter I've found that my 19oz 710s are good to about -10c with the wind chill. Anything colder and it's 25oz IH all the way. Even down to -30c I haven't added long johns.

Interested to see what the 19oz is like in the Spring. I know that I can't take 25oz above the mid teens.

The mid teens?! :D Surely you can make it to the 40's at least.

I've had no issues with my 710's in the summer. I've even worn my 23oz IH's (that don't breathe AT ALL) during the summer. I don't spend long stretches outdoors most of the time though, I'm usually in and out all day long. But the 710's breathe pretty well so you should be okay.

  6. I have 14oz (PBJ), 17oz (Samurai Black Shadows), 19oz (Samurai s710), 21oz (IH BB01's), and 23oz (IH SEXIHXLSXA13's). I like them all, but given the choice, I usually prefer the heavier denims unless it's over 90 degrees, and definitely when it's under 40 degrees. I just like the overall "burliness" of the look and feel of heavy denim. I don't think I'd buy anything below 17oz at this point. Different strokes I guess. The reason why I'd prefer the 25oz in this particular case is that I've heard the 25oz Samurai denim is a bit slubbier than their 21oz denim. This may not be accurate information though.

  7. Not sure where you live, but I live in the states, and Samurai is generally less expensive than Iron Heart here. Both are great, I'm still not sure which I like better. IH are more heavy-duty IMHO, but Samurai's fade better.

  8. I'm wearing my Black Shadows today (rare jeans day at work due to all the snow), they are basically the exact same thing as the Blackhawks, to me it's worth it to have my favorite cut in the 17 oz denim. I love my regular 19 oz S710's, but the 17 oz denim is so much slubbier and it's noticeably lighter, which is nice sometimes. Plus I like the complete blackout vibe they have.

  9. who's living in the arctic frost winds in the north of the US?? would love some pictures. the news reports doesn't show much.

I tried taking pics Monday while I was out shoveling snow in -30 degree Fahrenheit windchills. My iPhone told me to fuck off. This was the best I could do, I took this when I first stepped outside:

I took this one indoors afterward:

This winter can suck it btw.

  10. Very interesting...This is probably a newbie question but why would someone choose to soak their jeans as opposed to just washing them? Also are you soaking inside out and using warm water? How long are you soaking for each time?

I guess it depends on what constitutes a "soak". I've always assumed that soaking your jeans meant no soap and no agitation, with whatever temperature water desired. I don't know what this would accomplish other than minor shrinking and even more minor cleaning, thus it would seem to be nearly pointless IMHO. Perhaps I'm wrong, or perhaps Fanya defines "soak" differently (maybe he uses soap but no agitation or vice versa). Whatever he's doing, it's working like a motherfucker. :o
