  1. "Not quite ready to give up your HWDC jeans yet? Then don’t, carry them on in our Last Man Standing contest. Can they last another 2 years? Do you have the nuts to wear them to rags? This is your chance to win the “LMS Beaten Beltâ€.

You have 24 months to wear your jeans into retirement, or to continue to beautifully evolve them to perfection.

    No rotation.

You decide when to retire them."

I assume the no rotation rule is there because this contest is to see who can extract the longest life out of their HWDC2 pair. Therefore rotating them (and even just wearing them two days per week like I have to because of my job) would be missing the point.

  2. The waist stretched a bit (maybe an inch, haven't measured them in a long time), I'm not sure if the thighs have at all. Fanya has the 634 cut in this denim and has posted some heavier wear pics either here on sufu or on the Iron Heart forum, if not both. Mine have more wear than this pic shows (bad lighting), and you can find some of my other pics in the hwdc2 thread, but Fanya's pair destroys mine.

  3. I have the 21oz Beatle Busters and the 19oz 710's. They have a very similar fit except that the Beatle Busters have a noticeably higher rise and a smaller waist measurement than the 710's in the same size. I love them both, but because of the rise and waist measurement, the 710's fit me better. I keep waiting for Iron Heart to make a cut like the Beatle Buster with an inch lower rise and an inch wider waist measurement, because that would be the perfect IH cut IMHO. Not holding my breath though since they already have so many cuts.

  4. As long as they don't shrink any more, I doubt I will, unless I get the opportunity to trade for some 5105's. These just hug my calves more than I'm used to, but I'm sure I'll get used to it once I start wearing them in April.

  5. My 5109's have arrived. I've washed them and worn them for almost a full day, here are my thoughts thus far:

-This denim is truly incredible. The character it has is unlike anything else I own (IH 21 and 23 oz, Samurai 17 and 19 oz, and PBJ 14.5 oz). It stretches easily, and breathes very well. I can tell this will be a great warm weather denim. I'm guessing it will fade fairly quickly as well. Strike Gold would have to be crazy to stop making this denim.

-The 5109 is a great fit, but it's a bit slim for my liking. I can live with it for sure, but I probably should have went with the 5105 and dealt with a bigger leg opening than I really wanted, since all the other measurements were pretty close. The 5109 is just a bit on the slim side for my tastes, especially from the knee down, but I can live with it, unless someone is looking to trade for a pair of 5105's in size 33. I won't be wearing these much until the HWDC2 is over.

Here's the fit after a wash and a day's wear:

Special thanks to Brennan (BAerts) at SELA for being so patient and awesome with my cross-country denim shopping.

  6. You guys are getting me all excited. My 5109's should be hemmed and on their way to me by Wednesday. I can't wait (even though I won't be wearing them much until the HWDC2 is over).

  7. Vgadjo, did you give them any agitation when you soaked them? If you do happen to give them another soak within the next couple of days, I'd love to see the updated measurements. I had to send my 5105's back to SELA because the waist was too small. They're holding a pair of 5109's for me that have the right measurements, but the amount of shrinkage you got in the thigh has me a bit worried, I may need to size up one if they shrink that much in the thigh. Does anyone know how easily the thighs stretch with this denim?

  8. I just snagged my first pair of SG's-- a pair of 5105's that I ordered from BAerts @ SELA. First new pair of jeans in almost two years. Keeping my fingers crossed on the fit, sucks living halfway across the country from the closest denim store.

  9. This will be the last photo set of my 007. Crotch is finally giving way and contest jeans about to arrive =)

RIP Stukovx's 007's. I will miss seeing them around here. They had a nice long life though! The end of an era... :)

  10. Ugh, I wish I would have sprung for a pair of those when I was there a few months ago. I would have been broke for the rest of my vacation, but it would have been worth it. I hope Strike Gold reruns that denim.

  11. Challenge post: repairs:

I've had a few minor repairs done, as well as some preventative reinforcing. It started with some minor problems with the crotch seam:

I had Denim Therapy repair this problem before it developed into a real issue, and they did a great job. Unfortunately, I must have erased the pictures I took before uploading them to Photobucket.

Somewhere along the way, this spot had also developed:

I'm not sure how this happened, I've seen similar spots where people cuff their jeans, but I never cuff mine. I took a trip to LA a couple months ago, so I figured I'd stop by Self Edge and have them fix it:

And since they charge a flat fee, I figured I'd have them go ahead and reinforce the entire crotch area even though it didn't need it yet, since I'd love to still be wearing these 10 years from now:

The reinforcement covered over the original work Denim Therapy did to fix the crotch seam. Self Edge did a great job, although they kinda got a bit over zealous with the darning machine on one inseam as can be seen above. I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm guessing that maybe when Denim Therapy fixed the seam originally, they re-stitched it with one row of stitching instead of the double row that Iron Heart uses, this can be seen in the pic above. They also repaired some stitching on the front pocket that was coming loose:

Hopefully all this will result in me still breaking this pair out occasionally 10 years or more down the line. I love this denim.

  12. I'm starting to get the horrible feeling that although PBJ have by far my favourite denim, they don't actually make a cut for me.

12's are too loose at the top block and tight from thigh down - they look much better on my wife...

I was looking to get some 009, but judging from Johns 003's above, which I believe are the same cut they will be far too loose. No offence meant mate - they fit you very well and they look exactly as a good, classic cut should, but it's not for me.

The 007s could be the answer, I've yet to try a pair but if the top block to knee ratio is similar to the 12's it's not going to work.

Really hoping there is an answer to this cos that denim is just TOO nice not to own!

Given how much the 14oz PBJ denim stretches, you could size down 1 or 2 on the 009. That's something I've considered. I bought a pair of 007's used that were advertised as a size 33 but were actually a size 32. They now measure 35" in the waist.
