  1. why? no job?

I went to UT, was nice...

Long story. UT and I have a rather strained relationship.

    a) I wouldn't terribly mind living in Dallas if it weren't for the fact that most of the places I'd REALLY like to work are elsewhere.

    B) I wouldn't like school any more anywhere else, I don't think, so that's not really an issue.

    c) sweet jesus, please let the computers hold out for us after the games next week. please please please please please

Somehow I managed to attend a few classes with friends at other schools. No place was as badass as Austin, as far as the city is concerned. Other schools did seem more enjoyable to me, though. And at least one school had faculty that I really wanted to study under.

  2. I hate my class schedule. Does not sync well when I want to go to Barona. Not used to cold down here. I don't think I'm fully adjusted yet. Food is horrible here. Undeclared following Human Biology 4-year plan at UCSD.3017512397_7749407890_o.jpg

    VIS = History of Film

SOCL = Sociology of Popular Music

    LISL = American Sign Language

wow, that schedule sucks. what year are you? your schedule looks like mine did my first year at school.

  3. i've installed a few cheap tubulars (~$25 per)...nothing to be excited about, and wore quickly. Basically, you could tell they were cheap tires.

Have installed many, many tubulars from $75 to $110. Substantial difference in rubber, base tape, casing, roundness, etc.

I hate recommending them, but Tufo tubulars are stout and last. Continental Sprinter Gatorskins are my preferred tire, but don't have to robustness of the Tufo.

As far as install, go here: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=61

It's the same method that is found in USA Cycling's Mechanics Handbook. It's the method used for gluing tires on US track team wheels, which see loads unlike anything any of us will ever put out.

  4. yeah, it's a standard 43mm of rake. the fork isn't as smooth as other carbon forks i've ridden, but it is ridiculously stiff...you point, it goes without hesistation. not as noticeable with the tubeless wheels seen in the picture, but when the tubulars go on, it's obvious.

    --edit--

    dropped my saddle 4mm.

  5. ^this is why I dislike my school sometimes. All these sorority chicks look alike.

    would plow, left to right:

probably, yes, maybe, maybe, yes, yes, meh, probably, yes, no

so basically, fuck one, fuck 'em all ?

What you should like about your school is that after consuming enough alcohol, they all look alike.

  6. WHAT.

If you word it like that, people are going to overextend their legs. The way the fitting works is that when your foot is completely flat (it will not be flat when it forms a right angle to the ground), you want a 15 degree angle at your knee.

Stating that toe overlap is a sign of a bike that is "out of spec" is ludicrous. Cleat position, tire size, and crank length have a hell of a lot more to do with it.

Never seen a Bonti crack? I get at least 3 or 4 a month. All driveside, rear wheel. I'm not even a Trek dealer. Granted, my statement was a little bold, but, well, that's the internet. I won't recommend a Bonti, and check everyone that comes in for cracks at the eyelets.

I didn't say it was a sign that a given bike was out of spec. Some bikes being produced and sold as complete with a given tire and crank are out of spec, and in such instances, toe overlap is occuring. I know this because I work with a former frame designer for a certain manufacturer. My 'other' road bike has toe overlap. It's got the 80mm or whatever is required, so it's good. A particular lower-end steel 'commuter', however, is not so good.

  7. 1) Bontrager wheels will crack.

    2) Ksyriums over $600 are heavy for the price, and have so-so hubs.

    3) HEDs on anything other than a track bike (i.e. ridden on the track) or a TT/ Tri bike are stupid.

    4) When pedaling, your leg should be just shy of fully extended with the crankarm is inline with the seattube at it's lowest point.

    5) CPSC has a defined distance from the wheel to the crank arm that, for the most part, eliminates most toe overlap issues. There are some bikes being sold, however, that are no in spec.

  8. I graduated from U of TX with $40k in student loans to pay off. And that's with 1yr of school paid for. My EFC was more than my parent could pay, so I had to get some descent-sized loans.

My girlfriend went through shit. Her EFC was unreal, but her parents couldn't afford it. Long story short, there were many instances where she had less than $20 to her name. It was hard. Very hard. She busted her ass, though. Once she got to grad school, her parents' income no longer mattered and she was finally able to get some finaid.

the financial aid system is horrible. and given that the value of a bachelors degree is deteriorating, lots of folks will soon be in a world of hurt.

  9. Frame sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and is also somewhat dependent upon your body's shape.

Generally speaking, someone in the 5'5" range would be no larger than a "52."

  10. Know of something better? What does everyone ride in? Regular shirts?

Rapha's too expensive for what it is, in my opinion. I commute in a light baselayer and a light short-sleeve button down shirt. Not sure how I came up with that combo, but it works, and I don't feel like an asshole when I stop to get some breakfast. cards and cash go in a Jimi wallet in breast pocket. keys go wherever they fit.
