This album divides me more than most. In some ways I hate how naively Hollis seems to navigate what is actually very compositional, but tries to make it sound like genuine improv. Because of that the album comes across as unsophisticated with an under-developed character like spirit of eden. In a way those two albums feel like another baaaahnd front man who attempts to establish credibility because he finally started to mature in his perception of sound and structure. In a way all this makes them feel forced and somewhat dishonest. In other ways I love this album for the very reasons that I hate it, and realize that he shouldn't have to acknowledge any kind of debt to more established methods of working the same angle.

It's a good one.
