Last March, I put in an order for a pair of ISN boots from Renav Goods Co., a workshop based in Bandung, Indonesia. There was around 4 month lead time, so I've now been wearing them for right around a year.

They're made from Double Horse Front leather from Horween. I don't know what that means, but it's very supple & it breathes well. It scuffs fast, and doesn't have much of any pull up. Even right after conditioning, it looks dry in high-wear areas, but I think that it's really just getting a bit of a nap forming—half way between leather and nubuck? I don't get the impression that it's particularly durable, but it's done fine for day-to-day wear. Time will tell. There's also a full deerskin lining, which helps with the overall luxurious feel.

They're solidly good boots. They're well-constructed, and they've worn nicely. Something about them just doesn't feel honest. I think they'd appeal strongly to the same crowd that's interested in brands like Viberg: work boots made "fancy". In the same way as I would feel silly buying any more shoes from Yukuten after having spent time wearing Russell Mocs, I'd feel silly buying another pair of these over something from one of the standard PNW makers. Live and learn. I'm still relatively new to fancy footwear, and there were bound to be some mistakes. I've already got them, and I'm not going to let them go to waste. Thus, a year of wear & tear:

Post a pic of them conditioned!

  2. Flamepandas appeared all of a sudden on my doorstep after 2 weeks of untraceable tracking. As usual, Peng’s work is impeccable.

This is my first experience with shinki horsehide and I must say that is it a thing of beauty. The olive horsehide has a range of tones and colours depending on which angle you look at it. Under full sunlight it goes to a brownish tone. Swapped out the round laces peng provided with a flat one that he included for a more informal look. One of my best fitting shoes out of the box. Small pinch on my right foot pinkie as usual with most shoes i wear. Sized half down from my previous short engineers I had from him because these are laced. Overall, super impressed with his work. Probably not the last from him.

oh yes. He also included a super heavy duty natural leather belt with some heavy character on the under side.

  3. This is a post to highlight the beauty of Horween Horsehide. Been wearing this for more than a year now. Love how the leather rolls and how it picks up wear(water spots etc). Conditioned now and then with saphir delicate cream.

First 3 photos are in direct sunlight.

  4. Redmoon shell cordovan short wallet. Bought about 10 years ago when shell cordovan still was not that crazy expensive. I have been “babying” it quite a bit. Unfortunately, scratches on the leather is due to it being run over by a car when I left it on top of the car hood and drove off. Interior of the wallet is still quite pristine and close to original colour.

  5. Not sure if these sneakers qualify as shoes that look better with age. But here it is. Visvim’s first iteration of the joggers in light brown horween horsehide. Bought them nearly new, probably worn once or twice. Have been wearing them at least twice a week for 2 months. The leather is a brown colour with some reddish undertones. Pictures below.

They look great!  I think this is exactly what supposed to happen with natural leather.

Thanks! Haven't gotten a chance to wear them since. will post updates if any.

Not sure how you guys think of Visvim, these come from the FW12 collection. Made from Horween bison if I’m not wrong. Got these during the 11.11 sale on Rakuten and had a 10% off. These came with full of pet’s hair and scuffs. Gave them a good clean and conditioning and they look great and well worn in already. The sole looks like they can go on for another few years before a resole.

  8. Finally got a chance to take photos of flamepanda’s boot in natural light. The texture of the raw horsehide is insane. The leather has an almost velvety texture that you can see the knap when you run your finger across it. You can also see the imperfections on the horsehide, which is a plus point for me. Flamepanda did a superb job with the norvegese stitch. Very clean job on the mid soles, which I have also used some boot wax to polish up. Last photo is a comparison with my natural horsehide RDT Roots after on-off ~6 months of wear. The RDTs has darkened up quite a bit. Didn’t notice until the comparison shot A9928029-D849-4202-8B2A-5A96417C8F20.thumb.jpeg.c36bb9e9d4eb7e3561d1336eaea81630.jpeg

Just got my flamepanda boots in this evening. Sorry for the dim photo. Size 8 in his 181 last fits exactly like my Motor Engineers size 8. First impression of the horse leather on these is that it is almost as thick, but not as stiff as other horsehides I own, but it is a hefty boot. Chromexcel pouch is a small gift from him.

These look amazing. I'm on his waiting list for a pair of boots right now. Ordered them a few months ago. I'd be interested in knowing how he sized these for you. We've discussed leather and style, sole, etc. But haven't done the sizing yet.

I sure hope they fit well! I gave him information on the shoe sizes of the other various brands such as Viberg, Alden etc...

  11. Flamepanda just sent me pictures of my completed boots. Untreated horsehide from the Cloe Tannery. I’ve been so tempted to get a second pair from him, but I was trying to hold off till I am able to receive these from him. If these are sized good, I’ll go for a second pair. I don’t mind the wait.

yay, great jeans, as we recently discussed, nice catch! Are they NWT and were therefore rinsed?

My recollection is that all the repros were, but could be wrong.

Yea. They are NWT. Tagged as “Broken Raw”. Some whiskering on the hip and knee areas, however they do seem that they might still have some more shrinkage left in them.
