  1. I've been doing a modified "Starting Strength" workout for a few months now. I keep hearing mixed things about women lifting heavy with low reps - especially from trainers at the gym who are convinced I'm going to look like mrchariybrown soon if I keep it up - but the general consensus seems to be that it's a good way to get toned and that it's nearly impossible for a girl to get really bulky. Yes? No?

Here's what I've been up to - please feel free to comment on whether I should change some things up.

    4/22/13

    Workout A

    Warm-up run: 0.5 miles, 3:29

    Squat: 45x5x2 65x5 85x5 95x5x3

    Bench Press: 45x5 65x5 75x5

    Deadlift: 45x5 65x5 115x5 135x5

Dumbbell Rows: 35x5 45x5 55x5x3 (this is supposed to be decline bench press but some asshole didn’t clear his weights off the bar so I did this instead)

    4/23/13

    Workout B

    Warm-up run: 0.5 miles, 3:40 min

    Squat: 45x5 65x5 95x5x3

    Dumbbell Shoulder Press: 15x5 20x5 25x5x3 27.5x5

    Dumbbell Rows: 45x5 55x5 60x5x3 65x5

    Assisted Pull-Ups: 12x5 10x5x2

    Deadlift: 45x5 65x5 95x5x2 115x5x2

    Straight-leg Deadlift: 45x5

    Inclined Leg Press: 90x5 180x5 270x5x5

Also - is it rude or weird to ask strangers to spot you while bench pressing? I feel like I could handle more weight if I weren't afraid of getting pinned/dying, but none of my friends belong to my gym.

Too much volume/frequency. FB chat me later.

Anyways, if by looking like mrchariybrown, you mean looking "sexy".. then yes, lifting heavy will make you look like me.

  2. Don't worry too much about your rounded back, whether it be upper, mid or lower, as long as you start the lift in that position and the bar is right next to you. There are plenty of top level guys that pull like a scared cat.

Most guys that tell you that your back needs to stay completely flat during a deadlift can't pull over 500 so why would you want to listen to their deadlifting advice to begin with?

  3. dressing to your body shape is part of dressing well

    +1

Goes out to everyone. Dress your body type. Or lose/gain some weight.

I think the only reason that Aken fit looks like off-putting is due to the gloves, bag, and condom beanie. Just ain't working with his fatboy persona.

Take those out of the picture and it would probably look fine.. not good.. but fine.

  4. I use double over to warm up until about 255 and ~300 I use over/under grip. I think I'm going to start holding DL weight static after locking-in, then doing a shitload of farmers walk afterwards.

Hook grip is still a bitch.

Save your grip work til the end of your deadlift workout. When you do static holds, use a weight you can double overhand with and just hold it as long as you can until it literally slips out of your hand. If it doesn't slip out, you weren't holding long enough. And do a few sets of that.

That also works with building up your hook grip strength/pain threshold.

  5. grip is failing before deadlift for me, kinda annoying when you've got enough in the engine, but hands sux.

    ideas?

Either chalk+over/under, chalk+hook, or if you can't do either of those, straps+double over+grip work.

Chalk+hook will take time getting used to.

You should be doing grip work all the time if you aren't blessed with large hands. Plate pinches, static holds, etc.

I have large hands, but I still do grip work from time to time just so I won't bump into grip problems in the future.

  6. So yeah, two-years relationship ending now. We had different life-goal plans so it's the best decision and I know it… but I still feel the illogical urge to take the first train and try to talk her out of it.

    Long distance?

  7. If "traditional" "Japanese" TBS/ABS RPG's:

    • Chrono Trigger
    • Star Ocean: The Second Story
    • Lunar: Silver Stay Story
    • Wild Arms 2
    • Final Fantasy 8

    Honorable mentions

    • Final Fantasy 7
    • Legend of the Dragoon

If all types of RPG's besides the ones above:

    • Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas
    • Dead Space 1 and 2 (#3 was okay but not nearly as good as the first two)
    • Diablo II (fuck this game though for eating up so much of my time back in the day)
    • Legend of Zelda
    • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Shit ton more.. it's hard not to call a lot of games these days an "RPG" or at least have RPG elements.

  8. Figuring out what you want in a relationship takes a long time.

Then it takes even longer to realize that you actually deserve what you want.

Then at that point, you need to find someone that is on the same page and filter out all the riffraff.

Basically what I'm saying is I'm dying alone.

You're going to be in the middle of a britt/me bear hug the next time I see you.

  9. Yea, high bar/low bar position doesn't indicate poundage moved nor torso angle. There are other factors that go into that.

That said, I squat with a low bar position, slightly wide stance, and very little torso angle.

  10. I took off of work today because I was going to travel to ny for the weekend.

Alas, Megabus decided to cancel their service in the northeast for Fri/Sat due to snow storm Nemo... :(

What a waste of a PTO day. Ah well, I guess I'll veg-out and play Dead Space 3 all day and then go squat later.

Bright side is that I have 44 PTO days per year... so it ain't too bad.
