  1. I'm still here :) There will be a new (paid) V&V thread when everything is ready. It inadvertently gets dragged into conversations everywhere else but I'm not wanting to shill V&V, so until then, my posting is taking a backseat to focus on having the new collection ready for (capsule) NY.

    Much love.

  2. Original list:

Not many blogs that I'd wholeheartedly recommend, but you might get some mileage out of these - if you're not already reading them...

http://www.ablogcuratedby.com/welcome/ (the non-baller version of the epic magazine)

http://coutequecoute.blogspot.com/ (not always good, but always big images and frequent updates)

    http://www.purple-diary.com/ (zham's hustle)

http://www.theselby.com/ (really fresh content behind each entry)

    http://www.we-make-money-not-art.com/ (assorted dope shit)

http://www.dazeddigital.com/ (bit of everything, can be quality, but the stingy feed gets me down [hate when sites just run a header and a teaser of the text, don't make me visit the site just to decide if I'm interested])

I don't have much in the way of industrial design, but I do have a few additions...

AnOther have a new site with some kick ass content streams:

    http://www.anothermag.com/current (main feed)

http://www.anothermag.com/exclusives (original web content, print-worthy production values)

http://www.anothermag.com/reader (curated selection of daily blog posts, their list of favorite blogs has more art/design dabblings)

and less so http://www.anothermag.com/loves (a little like luxist et al, doesn't interest me much, and call me a cynic, but probably a generous share of advertiser back-scratching)

http://www.someslashthings.com/blog/ (a snapshot of the magazine)

http://www.theimagist.com/ (nicely curated fashion/art/design content from a casting guy in NY)

http://johntancasting.blogspot.com/ (another model industry guy, but with a good amount of original content)

http://robotsatbombay.blogspot.com/ (past/present menswear and its cultural influences)

    http://davidhellqvist.blogspot.com/ (interview and feature content)

http://rorydcs.blogspot.com/ (even more tits than Purple Diary)

http://pagesonline.it/pagesblog/ (womens centric, but do check out the online magazine [click the cover on the top left], its some of the best fashion content in Aus)

http://www.styleclicker.net/ (one of the better European street style blogs)

http://sonnyphotos.typepad.com/sonny/ (my favorite addition, photographer Sonny Vandevelde's blog, a straightforward old surfer from Avalon who does the runway backstage with an entertainingly different perspective)

This interview is a good introduction, and you might have seen his Julius shots on SZ?

  3. Would be really interested in hearing what blogs for fashion and also home / interior design / architecture you guys read. I know JV had a really good list in this thread about 6 months back.

I'll dig through my Reader and see if I've got any worthwhile additions to the list...

  4. Holy shit, Deiv I'm impressed that you went with yellow :D Don't sweat the water marks or getting it dirty, it'll distance it from anything DSquared. Light grey, white and faded black would all look good with it - I like the idea of it being worn without heavy contrast.

  5. I wasn't expecting to be as busy as I have been this summer... still dropping by superfuture every few days to see what's good.

A few weeks back now, but Avatar was huge. Wound up seeing it twice and I liked it even more the second time. I'm kind of glad I didn't see any trailers or anything before hand though, I'm not sure I would have had the patience for it all to unfold if I'd seen too much. It's a crime to have such a beautifully staged movie blow its load in 45 seconds.

  6. You're not wrong about the domestic price of Mihara shoes Melvin (50k-60k), some bigger boots go up close to 80k, but check Luisa Via Roma's price on these shoes ~690 EUR (inc VAT) for a pair that sells for ~60k in Japan.

EDIT: A quick note before I head off, merry Christmas everyone :) Enjoy!

  7. Thanks for posting that Fenrost, I'm crushing on Mihara pretty hard right now... really good to see it all in tact from the runway, and that big set of images still isn't even 1/4 of the collection. I really like both those boots but all the shoes are steep, even the sandals are $600+

I know Joe's getting these verbatim:

    3.PNG6.PNG

(these leggings are backwards, you can see the tag on the waistline and holes are for the back of the knee)

    7.PNG8.PNG

    4.PNG5.PNG

These shorts with shirt hem, but in black on black. Throw a white shirt or tee in between and you've got layers for days.

    2.PNG1.PNG

The shorts Ivans was talking about the other day, but in black (same style but smoother cotton than the black ones above).

Plus a few pieces not here...

-a similar pair of the above Thai pants, cropped to 3/4 length and buttoned up to below the knee,

-the long length cotton/silk big shirt (big visual presence but warm weather wearable),

-the navy coat with braided hem (dope single breast macintosh),

-and a long sleeve black shirt with the same braided hem (personally I liked this piece for summer, similar visual presence to the coat, but with a little more versatility - being light enough for summer but can be worn under a jacket when it's colder)

  8. I like Fuuma's style tangents, and I like the sweater, but any chauvinistic wit the 'Girls' sweater held is lost in becoming a victim to it.

It needs a nonchalance to retain its cockiness and the uptight jeans and boot tuck have none of that.

Genteel trousers (wider, pleated) or a stricter regimentation (tapered trousers, cuffed hem, stingy break) balance it. Swap the monochrome for a softer pallet to compliment the mauve, rather than making it a shallow gimmick. And of course layering it under a double breasted coat would set it off entirely.

  9. Is it cruel to point out that you just missed the FW09 Thai trousers on deep discount? http://secure.hostdeziners.com/www_sydneystoronto_com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=80

(if they are the same ones)

With so many combinations of styles/fabrics/colours, there actually isn't a lot of direct overlap. NVREND's buy is more focused on the unique layering pieces and summer-wearable trousers/shorts, tying them into strengths of the other stocked labels (like Augusta footwear, Obscur basics, NAT shirting). The others suffer from trying to pigeon-hole the pieces.

Mihara's definitely building momentum, both LVR and Browns as new stockists for this season. Ivan's shorts on LVR are these ones, which are just another one of the 30 pairs of slightly different trousers/shorts...

  10. Google talking some sense about Mandatory ISP filtering

Insightful words. This is way bigger than policing child porn, and opposition to the filter is not about advocating it. Enforcing an imaginary status quo on our social values is completely unacceptable, it demeans us as individuals and derides our collective potential for progress.

  11. Melvin the zip pulls look pretty cool, probably a hand made piece added to an off the shelf slider. A little WD40 on the teeth might help with the stiffness, applied with a cloth to avoid it getting on the leather...
