  1. so i'm just starting out, and i'm thinking of getting a spintastics technic. i was wondering also if auto-return yo-yos serve any purpose in learning tricks? i'm starting to get the hang of sleepers, but i want to learn how to do stuff like tidal waves. any other recommendations for beginner yo-yos?

  2. you're talking about bikesdirect right? go for the kilo. i just got mine like two weeks ago and it rides great, the parts are pretty decent considering they're stock but the geometry rides a hell of a lot smoother than my conversion, plus the chro-moly frame still manages to be pretty light, as far as modifications go i'm probably getting nitto bullhorns and a different wheelset, but the truvativ cranks are holding up pretty well and the ratio is perfect (48/16) and it's a great upgrade from the 42/14 i was previously running on.

I sold my old bike and I'm trying to decide between the Kilo TT and The Hour from Windsor. The Windsor is $50 dollars cheaper and comes with an upgraded FSA Vero Aluminum crankset compared to the Kilos TruVativ Touro crankset. But the Kilo has a nicer fork on it, and a slighty more track geometry. I'll be replacing the wheelset, stem, and pedals almost immeditaley.

    Any thoughts?

  3. your dropouts look like they won't accomodate a fixed-gear conversion, even with a chain tensioner. fixies need horizontal dropouts to compensate for the lack of a derailer.

So, should I turn this into a fixie? :P

edit: I just realized that that crack looks a million times worse than it actually is in that picture. It may be because the paint and sticker are cracked that it looks that bad, but it's really not that bad. Promise.

  4. just got a new ride for spring, mercier kilo tt. stock parts are decent but i'm still going to get nitto bullhorns and maybe deep-vs. i'd really like a rear aerospoke but i am way broke from buying jeans. :\

  5. not gonna lie. those are pretty dope. my rockers are starting to show some whiskering and honeycombing as well, but i wear the hell out of these though. biked 10 or so miles yesterday and they don't seem any less tough.

Here are my first season KMW 1980 (china production) after one year a few washes.

  6. the npr building is pretty close to my house, i bike by it every day on my commute to and from work, one of my favorite episodes of TAL was about "loss," and it included this reading of these letters addressed to a deadbeat father from a single mom, 'cept the dad turned out to be this ex-punk who was a cook in japan now, and the mom wasn't bitter or anything, she understood she had his own shit to get together, she was just like "well, it would've been nice if you saw your kid's baseball game."

and yeah, if i'm ever up that early on a saturday "wait wait don't tell me" is my shit. also a fan of "fresh air" and "fair game" by faith salie... oh shit totally forgot about sunday nights when they air those old, old radio shows too... and don't get me started on the bluegrass overnight.

  7. okay so it's sunday morning and you had a good night last night, you didn't get too wasted so you're not hung over, your girl came over and now you're just lying in bed lazy as fuck sharing a j. what music are you listening to?

for me, it's "sun, sun, sun" by "the elected."

  8. alternating vans zapato del barcos and topsiders.

either with kmw rockers or naked and famous skinny guys, cuffed... and maybe crate chinos once the sally cut gets released.

polos and light-colored button-ups, thin cardigans, blazers.

looking like i dropped out of prep school to follow vampire weekend on tour.

  9. Thanks for the info. Surprisingly, those prices aren't that bad at all. Which side of the park do they live? 16th Street or 15th Street side?

About 3 years ago, the 15th Street side was much more ghetto, compared to the embassy row side.

i'm sharing a rowhouse with three other guys near bloomingdale, and i'm paying 600 with utils. this neighborhood doesn't seem very sketch, although areas like columbia heights and adams morgan are having isolated crime problems.
