  1. As I'm sure others would tell you, you need to check the thighs more than the waist. Measure a pair of jeans that you have across the thigh, or just around your own thigh, and compare to the sizing chart on Big.

  2. I live in arizona, so i want something that's lightweight for year-round weather, but is still durable. selvedge preferred. also, i'm not into really defined whiskurzz or anything, just want a nice pair of jawnz i can fade out nicely into a natural look. i've looked at:

    -710

    -apc

    -NF deep indigos

any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you're looking for light-weight jeans, most brands discussed here will be 14oz or heavier. For lighter weight, I think you may have to keep with NF, perhaps nudie, and I think sugarcane has light-weight styles on occasion, but those tend to be cut very differently from the other styles you've listed. If you're fine at 14oz, you can also look at studio d'artisan, pure blue japan, or perhaps the oni blue cut. The oni is a very loose weave material which I find to be good for warmer weather.

As for the fading, that will depend more on the frequency of washes. Don't wash for a year and you'll have sharper fades. Wash every month and you'll have a more vintage look. I found that oni didn't hold creases as strongly as jeans with a tighter weave, so they tend to look more vintage in my opinion. Check out their thread.

  3. I'm selling my Oni Red-Vedge jeans, tagged size 36 and hemmed. Here are accurate measures:

    Waist: 37"

    Inseam: 32"

    Front Rise:12.5"

    Rear Rise: 16.5"

    Thigh: 14.25"

    Knee: 10.5"

    Hem: 9.5"

Still in good shape, I've just lost enough weight to take them off without unbuttoning them, so it's time for them to find a new home.

Asking $90, shipped in US. Extra for outside the US. PM if interested.

  4. That doesn't seem like too much shrinkage for a looser woven fabric, and it wouldn't make sense for a company to make different patterns for some to be washed and some not. Therefore I'd assume that they are the same sizes originally.

  5. So your average department store Levi's are prob 12oz?

Somewhere around there, yes. Since the STf are 14, its possible that other models also are around there, but even when you look at their website they specify on most of the models that they use 12oz. Distressing will make them lighter as well.

don't see a lot of examples of black denim fades. will black denim fade similar to the way the indigo does?

Depends on the material. I know those who have tried black Levi's stf have generally been disappointed, but some of the nicer brands come out nicely. Samurai tends to fade similarly to their blue denims, and pbj fades as well, though there are fewer examples out there.

  6. I believe so, yes. I know that they were shifting, and I think that lasted for one season before they shut down entirely. Still, some of the best belts, great original pocket design, some unique cuts, great quality, and one of the first to use something other than basic blue/white denim which has grown to almost every brand out there. Even the jackets were unique on the market.

  7. People do use febreeze sometimes and the only complaint I've seen has been that they then just smell like febreeze. You can also try putting the jeans in the freezer for a few hours, or in direct sunlight for a few hours. Both are supposed to control the bacteria causing smell issues.

On a different note, something just struck me, which is why I came to this thread. Are there any jeans made with both organic cotton and natural indigo? This seems to be a logical product missing from the market.

  8. I have to agree with Cold Summer on IH. I tried on various pairs and they just didn't seem to have anything special going for them, particularly for how much hype the brand gets.

I don't know if it qualifies for this thread, but I despise that ALD is no longer around...

  9. i'd still love to pay that!

(I'd love to pay double that)

Tell me about it. I went to college in St. Louis, and the rent for the apartments in the city I was looking at after graduation were renting for about 1/3 of what my half of the rent is to live 20 miles outside of DC.

  10. Holy crap! A retailer outside of Japan who carries the 4000!

Though, I'm curious how they take measurements, since they seem to have the jeans starting out below tagged size, and shrinking from there...

  11. s2.jpg

    fh 3007 1 year

I like the look of the fit. What are the measurements on these? I haven't been able to find a descent sizing chart for the 3007 since there are almost no boot-cuts at the main retailers.

  12. nice job so far. Now that it's getting colder, I'll be wearing less of my 17oz Elements and more of my 24oz s5000.

Yeah, the 24oz denim definitely doesn't get worn year round. I've had them for almost 1.5 years now, and they're just approaching 6 months now.

  13. I've had to do some crotch reinforcement of my older pair. It hadn't torn yet, but I felt it starting to come apart around 8 months. I've also had to restitch the left-back pocket a couple of times, which I'm surprised about since I don't carry anything in the pocket.

With the 24oz, I've been wearing them a bit over 5 months at this point and can see some of the threads breaking a little.

These are both heavier denim though (17 and 24oz), so I don't know how representative it'll be to a lighter weight.
