I did it, I read all 206 pages of this awesome thread hahahaha, basically a collection of visa, phone and english teaching questions, and a dash of drunken stories, love it!
I'm heading over to korea for 8 days at the end of december (from what i gather is gonna be bitterly cold). I was there about 3 years ago when I spent 4 weeks in busan drinking it up, but this time I'm visiting with a gf so clubbing and drinking too much are generally limited hahahaha
so this is what I've gathered so far on stuff I must do:
visit a fresh seafood market and eat wriggling pieces of octopus
go eat at a traditional korean restaurant with like 30 side dishes
namsan tower
public spa/saunas
any other suggestions on stuff to do?
or recommendations of fish markets (and what to eat there) and public spas? (are there any that you can go outdoors and sit in a spa while the snow is falling on you? that are also male+female friendly? hahaha)
thanks!

great thread!
I have grown up in Sydney
Currently studying in Queensland
Sydney is a great place, I grew up about 40mins away from the CBD, pretty far out, but nice and quiet, public transport is tolerable, and having grown up there, the people would be what I assume to be "normal" or "average". I was fortunate not to have lived in the south-west where all horror stories that asian parents tell their kids to stop them from going outside start from. The city is spread over a pretty large area and is quite disorganised, and not everybody cares about what they wear, but there is an ongoing trend that guys are starting to spend more money on their looks, but is quite limited due to overpriced crappy local brands which end up selling the exact same things as each other.
Food is soooooo good, the good thing about australia is that there is no "australian food" as such, but with so many immigrants bringing their food from overseas and setting up shop, you get a nice mix of what I am lead to believe is quite authentic food, which you can get for cheap prices too! At the same time, if you are willing to spend, there are heaps of awesome restaurants riding on the masterchef wave.
Queensland is bogan (australian redneck), that is all

yeah footscray definitely has the best Bahn Mi, I can't remember the name of the place, its on the furthest side of the market from the train station. They have another shop in Victoria Street (little Vietnam) too.
Carlton is a good area, you are close to everything, what are you interested in?
hmmm pretty much anything? im from sydney
but i've been living in queensland for a couple of years now so i'm really deprived of everything.
just shoot me some recommendations, for any activities or hang out spots in and around the city, i've already gone to fed square to watch tourists watch themselves on the screen hahahaha
