  1. My ode to Phat Guido of styleforum

Temp- Way too hot and humid

Agenda- To the classroom today to style on the high school kids and teachers! Long day though, bed at 4am last night, up at 6:30am, not home from classroom, my courses and work till 8pm. Now time for coursework and planning an activity for the classroom. Took this before i left this morning

Apologies for no walking forward with big grin pic or shot of me drinking my starbucks double shot

Shirt- Club contrast collar blue chambray button down with dual front pockets designed by Tim Hamilton for Uniqlo.

Watch- Vintage Bulova Accutron m9 watch from 1969, given to me by my grandpa. Nice aged brown leather band, with antique gold looking face, however it is broken but i still love it.

Belt- Nautica dark brown leather belt. Not sure if it's distressed but it used to be my roomate's and he is too fat for it so i wear it. Despite the lack of brand cachet, it is fairly nice.

Pants- Lightweight kinda crinkly paper/nylon feeling but 100% cotton cream khaki trousers from RAF by Raf Simons.

Underwear- 100% bamboo black boxer briefs from Michael J. Krell. Were to become pretty sweaty later in the day.

Socks- Olive, beige and brown socks from pre-Robinson Gap

Shoes- Suede medium brown laceups by NDC that while not distressed, do have a bit discoloration that i need to tend to from a few drops of Natural Light that happened to spill on them in a beer pong game.

lolz wearing different shirt when the shot with the watch was taken...

Id be interested in persimmon juice dyeing... maybe for my PBJs when I fade em a bit more.

Seemed interesting to me too, my mom has a couple persimmon trees so I thought it wouldn't be difficult for me to harvest the fruit, until I read that you have to ferment the juice 2-3 years before it gets the right color for dyeing. But after I'm done with my contest jeans, I might play around with some kakishibu (persimmon juice dye)

  3. Eulogy, Monk's, or Zot are all very good Belgian style bars, each have many beers available on draft and hundreds in bottles. Last time I was at Eulogy, Igot Chimay Blue and Duvel from the tap. Belgian bars are good if you like to drink well, but they get expensive

I also like Tattooed Mom's on South Street, which is a definite dive, but cheap beer (PBR) and nice fried food. Standard Tap, Johnny Brenda's, and 700 Club out in the Northern Liberties are divey but nice and the first two have good food. Khyber in Old City often has live music, cheap prices, decent local beer list, and well-made mixed drinks.

  4. ...North Coast brewing won my heart over with nitrogened imperial Russian stout ...

Old Rasputin? I've had that before and it's a personal favorite, plus if you've ever seen the bottle it's short, squat and just sinister as hell

  5. ^^

Yeah, these are the Selvage STF 501s that were floating around 2006-7. Not LVC, but Levi's attempt at capitalizing on the raw denim trend. I saw a pair while in NYC a year and a half ago and if I remember, they have some the nice details, selvage coin pocket, hidden rivets, maybe even single stitching. From the worn pairs on the board, they seem to fade pretty well.

Really not that unique though, probably more of these around than LVC's, but it's a really, really nice buy at $15. You could probably flip them on ebay for more than $50 if so inclined, if not a solid pair to wear

  6. The best thing to do is take your bonsai outside and put it in full sun. If in full sun, you should water everyday and it should be fine. But do not fertilize until you know what you are doing, and the same goes for any trimming or training. Junipers are very hardy when treated right but can be finicky when mistreated. The worst thing about these trees though is that they stay green for weeks after they die, so you might buy a green tree that is already dead in the pot. For bonsai purchases, I would recommend visiting an actual bonsai nursery so that you know what you are getting and can get real help about care.

    Imo, the best:

    Forums: forum.bonsaitalk.com and internetbonsaiclub.org

    Galleries: http://walter-pall.de/00gallery/index.html and http://www.artofbonsai.org/

--Walter Pall, is my favorite bonsai artist by far. Also, some of the people on AoB are annoying, but most of the articles are good and the photography is excellent.

Books: John Naka's Bonsai Techniques Vol.1 and 2, Colin Lewis' The Art of Bonsai, and Harry Tomlinson's The Complete Book of Bonsai are pretty good for beginners. --There are many magazines out there like Bonsai Focus (formerly Bonsai Today) and International Bonsai which produce good content.
