  1. Not sure about making a new thread, so I thought I'd stick it here.

Recently purchased a new jacket from Cultizm. Lee Storm Rider Dry Worn. Half price, so I got it for about $120AUD. It's too bad Cultizm doesn't actually show the lining because...

    IMG_0725.jpg

    IMG_0726.jpg

It didn't have the blanket lining that I thought it would have. Apparently the one made in Poland only has a nylon (or acetate) quilt pattern lining and not the blanket one I expected in a MIJ Lee. Now, considering I'd have to pay $56 dollars to return it, I'd only get half my money back. So I decided to keep it. I'm sure this came up somewhere on the Leepro thread, but I didn't think to look because I just assumed all Lee repro storm riders would have that blanket lining. So after searching the web for a solution, I decided to cut and sew my own lining in there (because a tailor would have charged me about $100AUD plus materials).

Btw, I have only a rudimentary idea of sewing. I know how to work a machine from looking at youtube videos. I've never had a sewing lesson.

I scored some rayon blanket-like fleece at my local Spotlight for about 10 a metre.

    IMG_0727.jpg

Then I set about figuring out how to cut a pattern for the lining without actually removing the lining. I did this for several reasons:

    1) The fleece is not that thick and the lining inside was also not thick. Together, it actually makes a decent lining.

    2) If I change my mind, I can always remove the blanket lining. If I remove the nylon lining, there's no turning back.

So I turn the jacket inside out and start measuring.

    IMG_0751.jpg

I make a LOT of measurements:

    IMG_0752.jpg

Then I cut my patterns out of newspaper. Place the newspaper into the jacket to see if it's alright size wise (sorry no pics of this. Forgot to take some). Btw, this part took FOREVER. I must have gone through about 50 pages of newspaper. Then cut my patterns out of the fabric.

    IMG_0753.jpg

    IMG_0754.jpg

I then proceed to bast stitch it inside the jacket to see how it works. I lined up the fabric with the black strips horizontal (like I've seen on most storm riders). It works pretty well. Now all I need to do is hem the edges of the fabric and slip stitch it onto the inside denim. I'm going to attempt that next week (no abundance of free time for me I'm afraid. It's called work). All this alone basically took about 6 hours of my day off. Still it looks pretty good, and it's definitely warmer now. More photos and fit pics on completion.

  2. Also up for sale is my pair of old SC. I don't know the model and there's nothing written on the label apart from the size. Size 34/34. I can't remember where I bought them. Anyway, they've been washed (the store must have kept them in an attic. It was very musty when they arrived. Hot soak and wash followed. They've been worn to try the size only. I had intentions of wearing them later or just keeping them, but they're taking up room in my closet and they have to go. They're near new.

They have striped pocket bags, Mt Fuji arcuates and Sumo wrestler patch (which you can't see. I don't know what they used as the patch leather, but it went black almost immediately when I washed them. I rubbed some OB on them to prevent further cracking). Pink selvedge and the denim is really smooth. It's definitely 100% cotton (not sugarcane mix), smoother than the denim used on the 47 and I'm guessing heavier. Maybe 13.5 - 14 oz. These jeans have been mentioned before on sufu. I've sewn the tab back on. I can't remember if this was the original tab for it.

    Size 34/34

    Waist: 17 (34)

    Rise: 11.25

    Back rise: 15

    Thigh: 13

    Leg opening: 9

Sale and shipping details as above. I'm looking at US$75 plus shipping.

  3. Sorry for the second thread for more items, but you're only allowed a number of pics per message. In hindsight, I should have just posted after the Ironhearts, but I couldn't change the title.

Up for sale is my pair of Fullcount WWII jeans in size 33. These aren't the new WWII version with the green pocket bags. These come with white herringbone pockets (sorry, forgot to take pics of those)

The condition of these jeans would be in good worn condition. No rips or tears (crotch is intact).

Worn about a year on and off before being shelved. It has been washed about 4 times. I've worn it about 3 times since last wash. It doesn't smell or anything, but I can wash these again (with a nice organic detergent) before shipping out at buyers request.

The jeans have been hemmed by me on a Bernina 009DCC. Not the neatest chainstitch, I apologise. You might want to get them rechainstitched when you get them.

I don't wear these anymore because they've stretched out a lot more than I thought. These are fantastic jeans. In hindsight, I should have bought a pair of 32 but you can't purchase jeans with the idea that you'll lose the weight to wear them later, because it might never happen. I got a lot of use out of these jeans and they still have a lot of life left in them.

    Measurements:

    Size 33

    Waist: 17 (34)

    Rise: 11.5

    Back rise: 15.5

    Thigh: 13.5

    Leg opening: 9

    Inseam: 33

    SOLD

I won't ship any other way. This is for both your and my protection. If you're in Australia, I'll let these go for AUD$100 shipped via registered. I accept payment via paypal.

Price drop. Please check the photos and ask as many questions that you want. No refunds, sorry.

I've bought stuff on superfuture in the past. The last one was from Photo. My ebay sig. is sixquid123.

  4. Up for sale is my pair of Sz 36 SExIH01s. I think only two were made in this size.

The jeans have been hemmed by my local tailor with a good industrial lockstitch (no chainstitchers available at the time).

I don't wear these anymore because I've lost weight since purchase and they're too big. These are fantastic jeans. In hindsight, I should have bought a pair of 34 but you can't purchase jeans with the idea that you'll lose the weight to wear them later, because it might never happen. I got a lot of use out of these jeans and they still have a lot of life left in them.

    Measurements:

    Size 36

    Waist: 18 (36)

    Rise: 11

    Back rise: 14.5

    Thigh: 13

    Leg opening: 8.5

    Inseam: 33

Note: they're different from SE's measurements. After a hotwash, they'll get fairly close to SE, but then stretch out to the above measurements in less than one wear.

I'm looking for US$75 plus shipping. I only ship via fully tracked international post and the cost of this is US$45 to the US (give or take about $3-5 for other countries eg. Germany). Expensive, I know. If you don't believe the price, check here. FEDEX and DHL charge about $80-100 to ship to the US for 1-1.5kg, so forget that option, this is the cheapest one available.

I won't ship any other way. This is for both your and my protection. If you're in Australia, I let these go for AUD$120 shipped via registered. I accept payment via paypal.

It's cheap. No refunds, sorry. I've added plenty of photos so there's no surprises. Please pm if you've got more qu's.

I've bought stuff on superfuture in the past. The last one was from Photo. This is actually the first time I'm selling something (yes, I feel pretty daunted). My ebay sig. is sixquid123.

Some pics. I tried to be a comprehensive as possible.

  5. Those duckdiggers look like crap. You should think about selling them. I could possibly take them off your hands.

lol. By the time I decided to pull the trigger on the DDs, they were well and truly deadstock. If I never wear them, I'm thinking of encasing them in carbonite to keep them fresh for all eternity.

  6. I was going to put this in the, "You're addicted to denim when..." thread, but I think it suits better here. Cleaned out my closet for the first time in a while and found most of my old collection gathering dust. Thought I'd take a quick snap before putting them all away. I'll probably look to selling some of them in the near future. I've lost some weight and some of them don't fit/aren't suitable anymore.

    collection2010.jpg

  7. Took me a while to find this thread again. This thread was sort of the reason why I haven't been around much the last year. Too much temptation. Anyway, like I promised myself, no more denim after the IH634SR and true to my word, I haven't bought a single pair since mid 2009 (that I can remember... ) Anyway, was going through my closet tonight and found the last 6 pairs I bought before my hiatus (if you're going to quit, go big first).

    collection2010a.jpg

Left to right (in order of last purchase, I think...):

IH634SR, Duckdiggers 1920, SC rainbow, Sams Lee repro, KMW 2010 and Nudie AJ Dry Heavy (picked up for half price at Context during a '09 flash sale - I like Nudies enough to own a few and for the price I paid, better than shop bought Levis).

None of these have been soaked or worn. I'll probably break the Ironhearts first. Been wearing moleskins for the past 6 months interchanged with my Fullcount WWIIs. I won't be buying any more denim until I've given the first 3 a good wear.

  8. All I want to know is if there is another machine out there other than the juki down turn hemmer (someone posted a picture on this thread a while back) and the union special 43200 G that will chain stitch the hem on jeans.

I posted that pic. btw, that juki is no longer available. I checked. Then I got the bright idea of taking the heavy fabric downturn hemmer attachment from a Union Special 63900 (part no. 23564L to be exact) and rigging it to a tubular arm US chainstitcher like a 33500. Good idea? No... about >$1K later and I've got an unusable machine, all sorts of parts (don't try to convert a single thread chainstitch into a double thread chainstitch/ double lock stitch with no mechanical or engineering experience. It's not pretty) and the ironic thing is, I went into this just wanting to do the hems of my own jeans. I don't even have the space to set up a table and motor. It's not a huge loss for me. I've dropped 10X that amount of bread on my motorcycles alone, money I'll never get back, but the amount of time and effort I wasted was pretty frustrating. I'm not saying it's not possible, but... there are any number of good chainstitch services available for individual jeans. The only reason why I went to so much trouble was because there's no chainstitch service in Australia (at that time) and it was a challenge. If I ever decide to go into selling or making my own jeans I'll probably give it another go, but for now... I've been more than satisfied with just getting my jeans hemmed by my local tailor for $20 (industrial strength lockstitch).

I had to take the hardware off to oil it properly. I had a photo of the hardware put back on, but I've lost it, sorry. I think it browned up pretty good.

  10. Been a looong time since I've been here. Thought I'd post up a belt I bought at the Royal Easter Show. $35 AUD. It's embossed, not carved, but the leather is vege tanned and pretty thick. For the price, it's great value. It's in its natural state, ready to be oiled.

  11. The waist stretcher sounds like way too much work. And I DID do my homework. There is not a consensus of opinion on here that hip flare is a big problem on Eternal 811's, although it's referenced a few times on this thread.

Definitely not looking for a tight fit, and I'm thinking about returning the Eternals for some Samurais. Any suggestions on which cut might work for me given my measurements (5'10", 135, 31.5"-31.75" waist, 32" inseam)? Again, looking for a regular fit jean with a medium rise (I HATE low-rise jeans) that is neither tight nor baggy the Eternals loo baggy on me). Thanks for all the feedback - I really appreciate it.

Of course the waist stretcher is extra work. Some jeans aren't meant to fit certain types of bodies. If I sized properly for the 811, I'd be looking at a size 36-38, and I'd have the same hip flare problems. It's been proven though, that the waist, regardless of how tight, will stretch out. The waist stretcher just saves me a few weeks of uncomfortable wear. It's the choice I made when I got the jeans. Eternal denim is like nothing out there, probably the closest is Flathead 3000 series (and even then there are numerous differences). Eternal doesn't make a cut in the same denim that suits me without a little manipulation of the waist, and for me, it's worth a $20 stretcher, and leaving it hanging wet overnight to get the fit I want from a pair of $250 jeans.

The 500s have a higher rise, if that's what you're looking for. I own both, and the 5000s definitely have a lower rise. You could also look into a pair of 710. Size down on the 500s, the waist will stretch out about 2 in (even without the help of a waist stretcher) pretty quickly. True to size for the 710s.

  12. I'm sitting in this Tokyo hotel room right now at 6:30am and i'm wearing them.

I've got a meeting with the men that made them in three hours.

We're going to talk about making 23 ounce denim, this shit ain't cuttin' it.

23oz sounds awesome... I would hope that there was something besides just the 2oz increase to separate the denim from IH's 21oz.

Does anyone remember this? I remember reading this back in late '07 and the 23 oz is definitely different.

  13. Ironheart 634SR arrived today. Surprised to find out that Rebirth is no longer shipping these international.

Anyway... so long as it's here.

    IH634SR02.jpg

Came in a neat little box.

    IH634SR04.jpg

Attention sticker, which I can't read. I'm assuming it means the jeans will shrink, so size up.

    IH634SR05.jpg

    IH634SR06.jpg

They gave me the denim cut-offs from the hemming.

These are raw (reek of starch).

    Measurements for those interested:

    Size 33.

    Waist 33.

    Rise 10.5

    Thigh 12.75

Inseam 34.5 (from 36.5 - this is the measurement on the website, the hem cut-offs look a lot less than 2in. Still the inseam is now exactly 88cm, which is where I wanted them)

I deliberately asked them to hem them raw for three reasons.

    1) There's no chainstitch option in Australia.

    2) Even if there was, you'd be hard pressed to find a machine that can punch through 8 layers of 23oz denim. Even Hinoya won't hem with a chainstitch - lockstitch only (I got mine chainstitched).

    3) I'm pretty sure about the sizing.

I usually hem my jeans to about 32in. Even if it shrank to 31 (which I doubt) they'll be fine.

These are completely different to the usual 21oz denim that IH uses. It's nothing like the Samurai 21oz either. If it didn't have the IH tags, I would have never guessed it was IH. IH (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) uses a thicker weft for their regular 21oz, which is why you have so much grinning on their 634S. These jeans look like normal denim, only thicker and heavier (much heavier. I was really taken by surprise by its weight). And the indigo is a rich blue instead of the grey/blue you'd normally find on the 634S. They're definitely not going to fade like regular IHs. You can see where the factory has bashed flat the cross point for the yoke with hammers so that it would go through the sewing machines.

And like other owners on this thread, I'm putting these away until I'm done with my current wearer. Got them while they're still available. There's no way these are going to be around next year.

  14. Just bought a pair of Eternal 811 one washes (size 33). Btw, 5'10', 135 lbs. here if that matters.

They're too big for you. I wear 811 size 34 and I'm 5'9" 185lbs. And they fit perfect, straight slim fit. When I got them, they were one-wash, waist size 32.5-33. I soaked them and then used a waist stretcher (if you don't know, google it - it's worth it's weight in gold. I own a Bakertowne Co. Inch-master is the other well known brand) to get the waist to about 34. I'm a 34-35 waist normally. First few weeks, felt like my lower body was a stuffed sausage, but they've stretched and formed to my legs perfectly (or so they did, before I switched over to my Fullcounts). They're doing closet duty atm, I pull them out when I want some nice tight dark jeans to wear (I'm not looking to fade these, just keep them as dark as long as possible).

    etn01.jpg

    When I first got them.

    No current pics, unfortunately.

  15. Copped the last pair of raw SC40701N rainbow denim size 32/34 from Rogues. These are the raw versions. Just to show that most Japanese sites are conservative about their jean measurements, I've added my own measurements BIG style at the bottom for those curious.

    scrainbow02.jpg

    scrainbow05.jpg

    scrainbow04.jpg

    scrainbow01.jpg

    scrainbow07.jpg

It came with a SC booklet (got one with my Hawaiis as well)

    scrainbow08.jpg

Rogues also gave me a copy of some streetwear paper.

    scrainbow03.jpg

Measurements of the size 32/34. This is from a raw pair.

    Waist - 34in

    Thigh - 13in

    Inseam - 36in

These are my first pair of raw SCs. All the SCs I've bought in the past have been one-wash. The starch has a pretty strong smell, like rotting sweet potato. Tempted to wash them, but must remain strong. With the fall of the AUD vs. Yen, I was going to hold off buying more denim. I've got well enough pairs to see me through the economic drought. But they just had to keep on making these limited ed. jeans, which of course, I had to get, otherwise I'd go nuts thinking about all the what ifs. These are going into the closet for future use.

  16. Got these from Photo. Many thanks for shipping them as soon as you did. I gave them an additional hot wash on arrival and the jeans shrunk up a little more than your original measurements.

Size 34 (most of my SCs are 33-34)

    Waist - 17in

    Thigh - 12.5in

    Inseam - 32in

They fit sort of somewhere between ALD Frontier and SDA D01. Definitely not as slim as shown on Cotton Duck on SE. I normally wear slim straights, so this is a nice change. Love the little details like the irregular shaped pockets, the secret coin pocket, and the horsehide cargo pocket is already starting to grain up. Awesome.

    mf01.jpg

    mf02.jpg

Sorry about fiddling with the balance a little. Shot these at night, and it doesn't do the detailing justice, if I left it as is.

Have a few small gripes though. Firstly, the belt loops are almost useless. They hang off the waistband like droopy (insert sexually explicit noun here) and the two front ones are too close together. So no belts with keepers, so no ironheart belt (my fav). Will have to pull my SC belt out of storage. And the hawaii denim is crocking like crazy. Even more so than my own pair of hawaii's. I'm sitting on towels as I speak, and my hands are blue. But apart from that, these are amazing jeans, so much more different to any that I own.

edit: wtf? I just noticed that the left leg is just one big tube (no outer seam). I love this shit!

  17. Pulled out my old pair of Samurai 510XX 21oz. I shelved these back years ago when they were too small for me (due to the sizing snafu for the first run of lot 10 21ozers). Over the years, I've lost weight, and thought I'd give them a try. They fit pretty good now. Not sure so much how they're going to fade over time. I must have washed these at least 4 times (getting it nice and clean for closet storage duty). Glad I didn't sell these. I'll be looking to get a pair of 24ozers depending on how the AUD does against the greenback in the coming months.

    Some fit pics:

  18. Recently picked up a pair of Duckdiggers 1920. Warehouse doesn't make the old style duckdiggers anymore. They've got the Northern Cal and Railroad jeans with the DD denim, but decortative stitching used on the 1920 isn't found on the new jeans. So, even though I wasn't planning on buying any more jeans in the next couple of years (due to the AUD tanking worldwide), when I came across a pair of size 32 Duckdigger 1920, I knew I had to get a pair now, or I might not be able to pick up a pair later. So, I ordered them from Rakuten and got them in 3 days. Though it rankles me that I'm paying for jeans that would have cost me AUD$130 less than it would have 2 years ago, I'm planning on keeping these for a long time, so it's not to bad. Some quick photos and then into the cupboard. I'll probably give these a soak and start wearing them after I'm done with my Fullcount WWII in 2010.

NB: The dry length of the waist is 34in which is just about perfect for me, since I know these will stretch back to raw length after first soak (I was umming and ahhing between the 33 and 32. I think I've got it right). The prongs on the cinchback are SHARP! Stabbed myself by accident when I was handling them for the photos. I think there's a disclaimer about them on Earthmarket (there's a size 33 left if anyone's interested).
