  1. Imperials seem to have weird sizing IMO. My waist is a pretty even 32, which is what I wear in A77, Dior, Lee but I needed a 34 Duke. Even then, it was really hard to button up when I was trying them on. Now after 3 months of wear, they are reasonably loose around the waist but not so much that I would want a smaller pair.

I am 6'1" and my height is in my legs. Even so the Dukes are pretty loose fitting jeans and stack quite a bit. Im thinking of getting them hemmed an inch or so. I wish Imperial would make an even more fitted pair than the dukes. The quality of the denim and the construction is argueably the best I have seen. But I would love a pair with a more fitted ass. Like someone else said the pockets and fit at the back makes your butt look "deflated" and looks like you are wearing them way below the waist.

That's like me too. I'm a 32 in standard Levis and Nudie, but I needed a 34 Duke as well (almost panicked about the tightness of the thigh several times in the first week of wear). But like I've said in previous posts, it's stretched out to just right. The denim quality and construction is awesome. That guy from Another (seriously don't remember his name) showed me the differences in construction between the Imperial and LVC and I was amazed.

I'm seeing a huge variety of jeans in Sydney. I can't recognise most of them but I've only ever seen one other person in Imperials and he was browsing in Another while I was buying mine. And I've never seen any Japanese brands on anyone, even Evisu. You can be 100% sure you won't be seeing sexihos on anyone else in Sydney.

This board has caused two things to happen to me. One, I've ordered expensive jeans without first trying them on, and am now sadly contemplating buying another pair. Two, I'm now staring at everyone's butt especially if it's covered in denim; both male and female. I'm not sure which is worse but I think I now understand the term supergay.

I don't know where you hang out in Sydney. All I seem to be seeing is; Levis, Nudie, Industrie, Lees, and the odd True Religion and 7 for Mankind, and that weird arcuate that Jeans West puts on their jeans. I haven't seen any Japanese jeans anywhere. I've worn my Eternal 868 out and had people asking why I'm wearing a patterned canvas pant. They've never seen that kind of slubby before. :D

I know the pain of ordering jeans the wrong size. 90% of my jean collection had to be ordered in. the plus side is that for every jean I buy, I get better and better at figuring out the online size measurements. Plus, I'm more of a hoarder/collector. One or two 'perfect' pairs would never be enough.

Unfortunately for indigo_junkie this is not true. Ive got a pair in the mail.

I dont understand the elitism that people have when it comes to denim. I for one commend people I see wearing good jeans, where here in australia they are few and far between and industrial washed bootcuts are rampant.

I do see a lot of Nudies in Sydney. The only reason this annoys me is because far better jeans can be had for similar money.

Man! At least tell me I'm the only one with a pair of Et868 in Aus. lol.:D Only kidding. Glad to see someone else enjoying these jeans.

Most of the 'elitism' comes from all those brand new Nudie wearers who have been recently "educated" in raw denim. I see them wear their slim jims or thin finns or superslim kims way too tight, can barely walk and stop every now and then to pull the denim wedged in their arses.

Oh damn...I'm wearing a pair of Nudies...

I just like the gunmetal sort of blue of the rrds. Go to Castle Towers if you wanna see some evisus. I wear mine to work at timezone :P

Hmm...its coming down to Imperials or DenimJunkies...maybe I try on a pair of Imps at some store

Man, there are too many aussies on this freaking board. lol.;)

I used to live in Castle Hill before the third expansion. For those who don't know. Kmart + some support shops = Castle Towers (which at that time was smaller than Castle Mall). First Expansion into a proper mall. Second Expansion into "Castle Towers, second largest mall in Australia next to Parramatta", Third Expansion - Piazza area, Greater Union moves across the road and becomes a megaplex. I actually spent more time at GW than Timezone. Less damage to the wallet.

Might as well go into Another in Darlinghurst and try on some Imperials. That Denim Junkie group buy is going to take its sweet time to resolve itself. Heck, if it goes any longer, I might get a pair (Like I said before $US205 + shipping for 14oz Zimbabwe cotton denim is a hot deal)

  2. Haha I think these are 260...AUD here in Oz

the only consolation for living in a jean desert like Australia. I was out in the city and counted 8 pairs of Ksubi and countless pairs of levis. At that moment I was truly glad I had my sexihos on. Just to be wearing something different...;)

  3. Oh psh, people who work at stores try on pants naked all the time.

    lol.:D

That's why I used to wash everything before wearing. And that's why I at least do a cold soak before wearing my new jeans. Because you have no idea how many people have tried on the jeans before you.

  4. Maybe 30 day rotation cycle (30 days of wear / hot wash soak / air dry / store for 2 down cycles) would work well. At least the jeans will be stored clean.

    .

I agree absolutely. All of my jeans are getting a handwash with vege soap before being put away for the rest of the year. You have to store clothes clean, otherwise, whatever dead skin, oil, grime etc.. will grow/attract/breed all kinds of nasties.

I might, keep my SC55s in rotation for now... I can't seem to keep away from that hairy denim. (and if the SExSC collab in September is with the same 55 denim, man... I might buy a pair - just to keep until next year, of course).

  5. I second the cock fade. I even stuff some other stuff down in front of my stuff, so to fade it good and proper (you know, because some cock fades are deceiving in its size :D )

Commando solves its own problems. For instance, if you're like every other guy out there, you probably don't do the double shake after urinateing. That little bit of urine dribbles out, and the urea reacts with the salt from sweat to release ammonia which in turn will sterilse bacteria living off the dead skin cells in the crotch and also mask the smell of fecal matter build-up in the seat (of course that's not how urea would chemically react, but I don't let something like the laws of nature get in the way of bullshit explanations)

edit: Oh yeah, I forgot. Commando comp!!! Best butt and cock fades should win... I don't know, something...

  6. You know, it's been something I've been considering for a while. I don't like to go commando, primarily because I have had a zipper accident in the past (not anywhere near as bad as 'there's something about mary' but really, there's no such thing as a 'good' zipper accident). then again, most of my jeans are button fly and it would shave off a few minutes in the morning when I dress... hmmm, this is sounding better by the second. I wonder if the fades would be different (buttock fades, crotch fades etc...) Really, I'm being serious! :)

It would be interesting to see some kind of 'commando' competition, but I'm not brave/patient enough.

  7. i too believe in trying clothes on before you buy them (and i believe in good tailoring as well), but there are no places on the east coast that stock FH, that i'm aware of at least BiG only has certain brands and other stores don't even have that much selection. SE is in san francisco unfortunately, so if i actually wanted to try them on its $150 ticket there, $300 for the jeans, $150 for a room for a night $100 for food and other expenses, $150 back. i'd be more inclined to order them obviously.

I meant for jeans other than FH (didn't know BiG didn't stock FH). I guess if you really want these jeans, and you've checked the measurements against those of your other jeans that fit you well, then it's up to you to just take a deep breath and take that leap of faith. I'm sure there are similar jeans to the 3001, but they aren't the 3001, and in the end, if pics of the jean tug away at you as they do, then go for it. Best of luck.

  8. I guess I'm in. I'm pulling every jean I own off rotation. My sexihos are going to be the only pair of jeans I wear between now and 2008. Aboslutely nothing but these jeans. If they're in the wash, I'll wear moleskins. No other denim is going to touch my legs.

... shyeah. We'll see how long that lasts... I'll give it the old college try though. And this doesn't include wallets, belts and boots. I have to work on my leather goods collection anyway.

  9. The cuts are different. The SExIH is slimmer and an exact copy of the DH 21cm.

Perhaps they're more of a 634 cut in the upper sizes? Though these 36s do feel a bit snug in the crotch area compared to some of my other regular straight jeans (and if they feel snug at 36, I can't imagine the crushing force a 34 would have on my groin)

  10. see i would, but i'm unsure of the waist, and i am in now way trying to get you all angry by making the comparrissions, but i'm just curious. the problem with the waist of the FH's are that they only go up to 34, but the waist sitting measured is 35 - i'm a natural 35 or so, but i'm not gonna throw $300 (w/ s/h) into a pair of jeans that won't fit. even going to BiG is a hike for me because i'm 1.5 hours outside NY, the only time i go is when i'm staying over with a friend and have time to kill. its not as easy to get to the places with the nice jeans - thats why i'm asking all these questions because i want clarity before i even consider buying. consumer prowess and what not.

I'm the kind of person who doesn't just give up on a pair of jeans if there's a slight fit problem. If it's too big, I'll get them adjusted. If it's too small in the waist, I'll give it the old bakertowne waist stretch. But apart from one or two really big sizing mistakes, all of the jeans in my collection (90% mail ordered from overseas), fit well (though, some better than others, I have to admit). I don't really believe in the perfect fit anyway. A jean fits a certain way, I think it gives it character.

That being said, nothing beats going into a store and trying them on. It's $300 for a pair of jeans that will hopefully last you half a decade of good wear. I think it's worth a 3 hour round trip (about the distance I'd have to go from Sydney to Newcastle. If Newcastle had any good jeans shops, that is. Too bad Sydney's just as bad. There's an absolute drought for good denim here. ).

  11. This thread has become a little sad. Sorry IJ, I think you should cut your losses and sell, or try to find someone to trade with. Why pay $400 for the SExIH--where the draw is the combination of denim quality and the Dior cut--when they fit you like a standard pair of premium denim? You could buy a pair of RB6 and save a few hundred.

Can't really trade with anyone since 34s are too small anyway. I really wanted a pair of IH 21oz denim, but didn't like the plain looking 634s with its arcutate and tab removed. I could sell them, but why? These jeans aren't like any other that I own. I love the half arcuate, the silver rivets, the massive leather patch (the pockets could be bigger, though). Had I missed out on these jeans, I would have bought a pair of Sammie 21oz 510XX, after shipping and currency conversion is roughly the same price as these jeans. If I 'sold' these jeans, they're the ones I would get as a replacement (and, last time I checked, they fit pretty much like a regular straight jean.). If the 36 gets a bit loose, I can opt to get them altered down the track. I don't see it as any different to someone buying a high end suit and getting it altered to fit. We're only talking half an inch, anyway, which is nothing.

btw, Rag and Bone? wtf? Do you even know what Iron Heart denim is like? I'd be saving a couple hundred dollars because the jean is worth a couple of hundred dollars less.

  12. see the thing is, i totally imagine they do, its just that their the kind that would only be sold in japan. like how sizes like those will only be around the source, but if i can find them, that would be awesome.

question (edit): would it be cheaper to buy them through a japanese site, or is it worth doing it through self edge because of the return policy ($280 is a fucking lot fo money.) i'm deciding between these and some nudies - or i'm gonna go to blue in green and see what good stuff they have there. so help me out.

Man, go into BiG and try them on! If you have the option of trying jeans on before buying, always, always take it. Guestimates with measurements is impossible. everyone measures their jeans differently to everyone else. The only time I was 100% sure about a buying decision was when I went into the store and bought my Dukes. Spare yourself the anxiety of wondering if you've bought the right size and the pain of buying the wrong size (no matter the store policy, returns are always a hassle).

  13. yeah, I thought about slim jim but i'm trying to make a move away from nudies, try somethign else

turns out that Imperials are an australian company and I found a shop here insydney that carries em, might go check them out today

I liked the Imperial Dukes over the Nudie SJ so much that I bought the Dukes on the spot when I went in to try them on. I went to 'Another' as well (well, that's the only place I know that sells them in Sydney).

Can't use the bathtub anymore:( . Indigo stains come off an aluminium sink easier than lacquered plastic.

So, post soak fit after a few days. The thighs have stretched about 2/10 of an inch, to about 12.5inches, to what I would normally consider comfortable (between snug and loose). So should I just keep wearing them like this (there's no strain on the denim, so I doubt there's going to be any more stretching) or should I have them taken in a 1/2 inch in the thigh, so they measure the same as my Imperials. Any thoughts?

  15. Those highland 9" look really great....but $2150....

    highlandog9.jpg

Could anyone tell me what's so bad about the Orvis Gokeys? Apart from the fact that they're about 1/8 the price of these ones.

Kind of reminds me of my Russel Moc boots that I ordered back in March. Got another 3 months to go before they get here...

  16. Dam, it's like walking through a forest of redwoods. It's no easy pickings for me either. I'm 5'9", 178lbs, but to be able to fit into jeans that I like, I have to either lose 40lbs or grow half a foot?!?!

Quality denim's tricky on a budget. You should save up your $$$ and get a pair of Ande Whalls when he starts up V4. He makes his jeans to measure, including the inseam (up to 38 inches).

There was also that other thread with that japanese made-to-order jeans service, but those jeans are like $400 each.

  17. Buh? Why don't you just say Jomons vs Gap?

    Dior.

I'm not a huge fan of either cut, though I can see myself picking up a pair of NS later on to fool around with. You can't really fool around with $300+ denim.

  18. The Steam Locomotive has been mentioned on this thread previously. I've always thought of them as a plain Levis repro, though I can't read any of the japanese to see if they've done anything different (and for some reason or another, google translator has been acting up). The silhouette doesn't really do it for me. I like jeans a bit more slimmer.

  19. To be honest, with the cut that it's based on, I would have liked it to be a bit more fitted in the thigh and seat. But the size drop between a 34 and 36 was huge (it's not like the 0.2 inch difference in the thigh between, say a 33 and a 34). Basically stuck between a rock and a hard place. Buy it too tight and hope it stretches out in the thigh (it would have 100% fit in the waist, trust me), or buy it a bit loose and wear it like a regular straight jean. Without knowing what 21oz is like, I went for option 2, and even after two days wear, I'm pretty sure I made the right decision. I can do a lot more with the size 36, like riding my motorcycle for one (can't do that with my Wranglers, and they are a 11.8 inch thigh. The 34 sexihos were 11.4 inches).

I think it'd be good for taller guys, because this jean will not shrink in length (a four hour hot soak did nothing). The waist, while loose, will probably stay the same, and most likely last longer than the average jean, because there's almost no strain on the button. And about a thumb worth of give near the crotch would mean less chance of a blowout.

I do have one minor gripe with the jeans. The pockets are too dam small! Too used to the Imperial ones I guess. Gives me an excuse to buy a new wallet. :)

  20. Unfortunately, exactly the same as the pre-soak. I think the waist went in about a quarter of an inch, but the inseam is the same (35inch). I put them on and they looked and felt... pretty much the same.

Kiya wasn't kidding about these not shrinking at all. I gave these a four hour hot soak, changing the water every hour to make sure that it stayed nice and hot. and then spun in the washing machine and hung dry overnight. I'm going to take it into the laundromat later this week and try a hot wash and tumble and see what that does.

  21. Holy hell! That patch looks 2/3rds the size of the pack pocket! How big is that patch? I know it's thick and the back pockets are smaller (ala DH) but that thing looks huge!

And the belt loops look hugemungous too!

I remembered this post when I was taking the photos of the rear of the jean. the one good thing about the size 36 is they look normal sized.:)

  22. Don't forget the 538. The style that Levis has advertised everywhere in Australia, that you can't find anywhere. I emailed Levis directly and they said that only Glue and one other store has them. The nearest Glue store for me is 15km away. I'm contemplating...
